Writing Volume Three
Started the brainstorming bullet list for the outline of volume three fleshing into a draft over the next week. Sorry Itâs taken so long in between.
Beast Souls Volume 2
Beast Souls Vol. 2
By Aaron McCoy
2/26/2015
(Scene: We start with Blaze looking over the sheet. As he hears a rush of feathers he steps outside excited. Stepping outside he finds Argyl arriving with a young blonde boy about 4â11 feet tall. The boy has a bowl-type cut with rough bangs. The boy has a âscraggly scholarâ look, a white dress shirt with brown vest (both wrinkly) along with a loosened tie. Think old style London prep school. With khaki shorts and slip on loafers.)
Blaze: âIs THAT him!?â
Argyl: âYes, may I introduce to you, the young master Eugene.â
Eugene: âHow do you do? It is good to meet you.â
(Scene: Holding out his hand for a handshake, Blaze kind of ignoring it)
Blaze: âYouâre shorter than I thought youâd be! Argyl, you SURE this the same guy from the sheet? The sheet said this guy was a âCombat Specialistâ.â
(Scene: Pulling his hand back Eugene shrugs and states)
Eugene: âYouâre more brash, and vulgar than I thought a LEADER would be.â
Argyl: âEasy you two. Yes, Blaze, he is a combat specialist. No one is better at disposing of threats in an effective manor with minimal effort and damage to surrounding area. Heâs also a master strategist.â
Blaze: âStrategy doesnât mean SQUAT in the heat of the moment. Instincts will get you farther in a fight than some lame chess-like moves!â
Eugene: âExcuse me? You do realize Iâve caught twice as many rouge souls as you, and with HALF the collateral damage. Do you realize how much work you create for the society when you go burning buildings and trees to the ground!?â
Blaze: âYeah, SO!? Whatâs a few trees and buildings when it comes to the safety of the world?â
(Scene: As they are replying and forth they get closer and closer until they are nose-to-nose)
Eugene: âSure, burn down someoneâs home or business just to catch an AMATEUR user. Cause THATâs necessary!â
Blaze: âIT IS WHEN I FIGHT PIP SQUEEK!â
Eugene: âEXCUSE ME YOU FIREY FRAT BOY!?â
Argyl: âENOUGH!â
(Scene: As Argyl yells the two immediately stop and turn toward him hands by their side.)
Argyl: âYou guys will HAVE to get along. If you are going be Proud Souls, then this is who you must work with. If you guys canât manage to get along then the whole thing will be called off and you BOTH can go back to hunting amateurs for the rest of your lives! Do you WANT that!?â
Blaze and Eugene: âNo Sir!â
Argyl: âGood. Then try to understand each of you has different strengths. These strengths complement one another. Youâll find this in time. For now, get along for your own sake. I will be bringing you your first order in a couple hours. Feel free to explore your new home and get settled in.â
Blaze: âAlright, I guess its fine, just try not to slow me down in the field ok Eugene?â
Eugene: âand YOU try not to BURN the field.â
(Scene: As Argyl disappears the two head into the house to sort out their bags and explore their new home. The following scenes show the two heading through the house and finding the same exact room they want in a comical fashion. At the last moment both realize they are setting up a bed in the same exact room)
Blaze: âWhat do you think YOURE doing!?â
Eugene: âObviously Iâm setting up my living space.â
Blaze: âOh, no no no! Out this is my room!â
Eugene: âWhat!? No! This is the most tactical room! It is the first room on the first floor facing the entrance lot. A perfect view should we ever be attackedâ
Blaze: âI donât care about that, but the sun will come through the windows at JUST the right time of day.â
Eugene: âGood if we ever are attacked you can just stare into the sunâ
Blaze: âand whatâs THAT supposed to mean lab rat!?â
Eugene: âThat youâd function better as a blind mascot than the leader! You Hot-head Punk!â
Ember: âRemember Blaze, Argyl told us we have to get along if we want to KEEP this position.â
Scene: (Blaze Takes a sigh and starts to continue to make his bed.)
Blaze: *SIGH* âFine! Just keep your stuff over there.â
Eugene: âGladly. After all it can be beneficial for the leaders of a unit to share a room.â
Blaze: âYeah, sureâŠ. whatever.â
Scene: (After a couple hours, while sitting in the kitchen the two hear the familiar flapping of Argyl arriving. He comes in the door before they can stand)
Argyl: âNo need to stand. I can debrief you here.â
Scene: (Blaze and Eugene sit back in their chairs after glancing at one another.)
Argyl: âYour first mission will be in the far north. In the American State of Alaska. It appears something troubling is occurring with the magnetic fields which cause the Aurora Borealis. Lately scientist in the area say the lights have been dimmer, unpredictable, and one night they didnât even show up at all. As you know this most likely indicates a Rouge Soul in the area. We believe heâs somehow using his powers, whatever they may be, to affect the magnetic fields in the area. We need you two to go investigate, find the reason, and if itâs a rouge soulâŠâŠcapture them.â
Eugene: âHmmmâŠâŠinteresting, to affect such a grand scale astronomical magnetic field they are either a very special, or very powerful user.â
Blaze: âGood. I finally have an excuse to use my big guns!â
Eugene: "That's just the mindset that will get us in trouble!"
Argyl: "Regardless you should BOTH get going. I have feathers that will take you there now."
(Scene: Argyl shoots feathers forward as they touch Blaze and Eugene, the two explode into a burst of feathers)
(Scene: Reappearing now in a land of ice and snow. Alaska a barren coordinate with an outline of a science station in the distance.)
Eugene: "Holy hell! It's freezing! Brain, Jacket." Stuttering*
(Scene: The Brain appears floating just above them. A strange stereo-typical UFO shaped object, with a large-headed green man as its pilot. Underneath the UFO shaped object, a cone of light appears. Within that light; cloths and jackets start being threaded together as if by the light itself.)
Blaze: "Meh, I guess it is a little nippy?"
Eugene: "At least put cloths on to TRY and blend in!"
Blaze: "Alright, alright, I will."
(Scene: The cloths drop to the ground as Brain disappears. Blaze and Eugene begin picking up the clothing.)
Blaze: "WAIT! How did you do that!?"
Eugene: "What summon cloths?"
Blaze: "Yeah, PLEASE tell me you do more than that?"
Eugene: "OF COURSE I DO YOU IMBECILE! That was just one of Brains functions, Brain is my beast soul."
Blaze: "Oh yeah, what else can it do?"
(Scene: Blaze starts a floating fire keeping them warm as they quickly change, and Eugene explains.)
Eugene: âBrain can answer any logical question within reason. He uses my soul as direct energy âfuelâ for the questions answer. The harder the question, the more of my soulâs energy is needed to answer. So, things like asking about the future, or questions concerning death and love are too strenuous. He can also manifest âinventionsâ if I can contemplate their creation in an adequate logistical manner. Essentially, he can make technology from about some 50 to 80 years in the future.â
Blaze: âMost of that kind of went over my head, but youâre saying he answers questions and spawns techno-marvels?â
Eugene: âEssentially, yes.â
Blaze: âThat may actually be useful!â
Eugene: âAnd here I was just waiting on your approval of my usefulness.â
(Scene: As they finish with their conversation and wardrobe change they notice a set of concrete squares in the distance, some with large satellite dishes perched on top.)
Eugene: âThat must be an arctic research facility lets go get more info on these strange events.â
(Scene: They approach the plain looking scientific buildings, as they approach the largest Eugene has a surprised look across his face.)
Eugene: âI almost forgot! Our paperwork!â
Blaze: âPaperwork?â
Eugene: âOf course! Why would these government scientists feel the need to answer two random strangersâ questions, furthermore how would we explain getting out here in the first place? We need a cover. I have just the thing, Brain two government IDâs please.â
(Scene: The Brain appears again above them spawning ID badges just the same as he did with the cloths before. The two don their badges.)
Blaze: âSays here we are âFund Coordinatorsâ?â
Eugene: âIndeed, nothing scares scientists into talking more than thinking theyâre going to lose their funding.â
Blaze: âI see, so are we ready to knock NOW?â
Eugene: âYes, but please, let me do most of the talking.â
(Scene: Scowling at this Blaze allows Eugene to rap the door. As it opens a pudgy man with disheveled black hair, clean shaven, and a lab coat opens the door. His name tag read âDr. Belliamâ. As he spots the two and sees their badges he frowns.)
Dr. Belliam: âWhat is the meaning of this, we were not supposed to be reviewed for another six months, and you guys never come out personally. Couldnât you have called?â
Eugene: âI regret to say that a phone call would not suffice. Weâve been hearing about the strange reports of the lights not behaving like normal. We want to make sure this isnât affecting our investments negatively.â
Dr. Belliam: âI seeâŠWell we have been having, disturbances. Nothing yet, has disturbed our research. Come in and I will give you the details.â
Eugene: âThank you sir.â
(Scene: The two follow the pudgy man down corridors till they reach his office. As they enter he motions them to sit and offers them hot coffee.)
Dr. Belliam: âA little something to warm you up. No one gets used to this level of cold I promise you that.â
(Scene: The two accept and begin sipping as the doctor goes into explaining.)
Dr. Belliam: âAbout two weeks ago our reading of the magnetic interplays of the Earth, the Sun, and the lights began showing what we call, regular irregularities. The magnetics are usually predictable down to a T, based on solar flare activity. Yet, every night around 3am, the readings above the frozen lake to the north go haywire. They spike sometimes, other times they disappear completely. The exactly location changes nightly. Also, itâs incredibly dark out there. Catching whatever is causing this anomaly is becoming impossible. We have been thinking of setting up cameras.â
Eugene: âI see, cameras would be an un-needed expense, I believe my partner and Iâs government training will suffice. We will go out on the frozen lake tonight and locate where the strange readings are coming from.â
Dr. Belliam: âAre you sure? This could be dangerous we donât know whatâs causing it. Magnetic fields of that strength can be dangerous!â
Eugene: âAs I said my partner and I can handle it.â
Dr. Belliam: âWell, who am I to argue with the government. Youâre welcome as guests till tonight.â
Eugene: âWe thank you for the hospitality. Is there a private room which my partner and I can discuss tonightâs operation?â
Dr. Belliam: âCertainly, Iâll show you two to your guest bunk.â
(Scene: The three head down more corridors until they come to a small room with two twin size beds, two bedside tables, two desks, and two couches.)
Dr. Belliam: âA bit modest, but I hope it serves.â
Eugene: âThis will be fine, thank you.â
Dr. Belliam: âIf you sort all this mess out Iâll be the one thanking you two!â
Eugene: âWe can hope.â
(Scene: With a smile at the doctor Eugene begins to close the door as Belliam walks away. Once Eugene is sure he is far enough down the hall he turns to Blaze.)
Eugene: "Good we could convince him to let us handle it, even better he had not already set up cameras."
Blaze: "Yeah, I doubt normal people last very long against Soul users."
Eugene: "Yes, and the Society clean-up crew are sometimes not so clean."
Blaze: "Very true. What do we do until 1am?"
Eugene: "He did say we were guests. Perhaps we are entitled to a meal?"
Blaze: "Yeah! Now we're talking. Hard to get anything done on an empty stomach."
Eugene: "For once we both agree."
(Scene: Eugene uses the intercom system to request meals. Shortly after a rap on the door signals the arrival of food. After eating in silence awhile they speak.)
Blaze: "So, I've been thinking. Since I'm the leader of this unit, and you're my co-captain, we should know more about each other, right?"
Eugene: "I suppose. More info is hardly, if ever, a bad thing. What would you like to know?"
Blaze: "Your Beast Soul, itâs one of the most unique I've seen. Even its powers are strange. So, I'm curious, how did you come by your powers?"
Eugene: "It's not a pleasant story, though I'm sure most Beast Soul births aren't. I suppose I can tell you if you really wish to know.
Blaze: "Honestly, yes, I do. I've never had the chance to openly talk to another Beast Soul user casually."
Eugene: "Hmmm. A sentiment I can relate with. Alright, I'll tell you the story of how Brain came into being. It starts in the days of my early childhood."
(Scene: As Eugene Narrates we see images of the things he talks about, the bullies, the fancy boarding school, the birth of brain.)
Eugene Narrating: I grew up in a rich family. Naturally they shipped me off to boarding school in Welsh-lands as soon as possible. At this school the dumb kids were praised for their rugby ability and the smart kids were praised for their grades. While I've always been hyper intelligent, my ability to communicate this at the time was less than sub-par. Causing many problems for me. Both with grades, and with bullies. After years of being called "stupid" by cruel kids on both sides, I was broken. I didn't understand how everyone could consider me stupid. Then one day the bullies got particularly cruel. They started beating me, making fun of the way I talked, the observations in class I had made. As I struggled against them I remember thinking "This is how I die". I deeply wished that my mental strength somehow translated to real strength. That wish crystalized; hardened into something real using my fear of death as catalyst. Thus, Brain came into being. When he appeared in a flash of lights the bullies dispersed running confused away from my battered body.
(Scene: Back in the room now food and plates being stacked and collected.)
Eugene: "After that they avoided me. I couldn't help but use Brain for some harmless pranks against them. That's when Argyl first appeared with my warning from the Society."
Blaze: "I see. Thank you for sharing. I understand why Brain is what he is."
(Scene: A rap at the door signals food clean up. Afterwards Blaze and Eugene lay in their respective beds.)
Eugene: "So, what about you, how did your powers surface?"
Blaze: "Well, since you shared, I will too."
(Scene: A couple panels showing time passes and Blaze retelling his story from volume 1. After the story is over we see them getting comfortable again.)
Eugene: "Interesting. I believe our powers were highly reflective of circumstance and innate nature of character. I wonder if this is the case for most users."
Blaze: "I don't know. This is the most talking I've done to anyone NOT Ember in years. I'm exhausted."
Eugene: "That's understandable. We should rest before tonight anyways. Shall we take a nap?"
Blaze: "Sounds good to me!"
(Scene: At this comment they both get comfortable and shut off the lights. Eugene is sure to set the alarm for 12am. At 12am they are awakened by the alarm. They get dressed and prepare for the long cold walk to the frozen lake. As they leave they are stopped at the front door by the doctor.)
Dr. Belliam: "You guys going out to the lake? Here's a map to it so you don't lose your way. Please be careful, and let us know what you find."
Eugene: "Indeed we shall. Thank you."
(Scene: They grab the map and head into the cold night.)
(Scene: Being led by clues on the map, the two find themselves and a giant frozen lake where, in the distance, a strange man stands with arms and hands outstretched. At the end of those hands, black foggy orbs float ominously, seemingly affecting the northern lights above.) Blaze: "It seems the society was right, that's got to be a Beast Soul user!" Eugene: "Yes, those orbs, they must be linked to his power." Blaze: "We have the drop on him, this will be easy" (Scene: Before Eugene can argue, Blaze forms a Fire-Gun Finger shot and lets loose charging from cover. The man turns; stern stone-like features, blonde hair, and tall broad build. From head to toe dressed in an immaculate white suit with black accents and bright red tie. He raises a black orb to the flame, and it's absorbed completely) Blaze: "Neat! But there's more where that came from." (Scene: Charging forward Blaze begins bending Ember's flames to his will. The stoic figure and Blaze dance in a interplay of flames being absorbed by black fog-like orbs.) Stoic Figure: "Imbecile!" (Scene: The figure raises his right hand as a more solid black orb forms, as he does Blaze is sucked forward toward him violently) Blaze: "Waugh!" (Scene: Blaze flies through the air at high velocity toward the man, as the his broad figure pivots and slams Blaze's gut with a resounding bone-crushing punch.) Blaze: "Ugh" *coughing blood; passes out* (Scene: As Eugene curses, he stand from behind cover.) Eugene: "I've got it! Brain, Rad-Wave Pistol!" (Scene: Brain spawns beneath him in his regular fashion a small ray gun device. He turns toward the man standing over Blaze.") Eugene: "So you think you're strong because you pick on people smaller than you!? You think thatâs what strength is? Try me." (Scene: Saying this he fires the gun, as a solid green bolt flies toward the man, he raises his hand and orb in defense but upon absorbing it there is an explosion) Mysterious figure: "Argh!" (Scene: As the smoke clears a purple glowing scar is shown across the man's right arm) Mysterious figure: (strong German accent) "Damn you both! You will regret this." (Scene: As the man says this he uses both hands creating an orb around himself. As it shrinks he disappears with it. Eugene turns to Blaze, frowning he finds the feather. Pressing it to his head the scene changes to a hospital. In a plain hospital suite Blaze lays asleep with Eugene at his side. Blaze slowly wakes.) Blaze: "Where, where am I?" Eugene: "In the hospital they have on this research base." Blaze: "What happened to the Rouge Soul?" Eugene: "I hurt him badly, but he escaped." Blaze: "Damnit, I wasn't strong enough!" Eugene: "Strength had nothing to do with it, you still don't see do you? He controlled gravity. His orbs sucked the oxygen out of your flames! That is WHY they were useless." Blaze: "...Then how did you defeat him." Eugene: "As soon as I realized what his power was, I knew what could stop him. An unstable particle under insanely high pressure becomes an atom bomb, so I fired a radioactive particle into his black orb." Blaze: "You defeated him in one shot..." (Scene: After this profound statement, Eugene nods softly as Blaze turns to look out the window. A long silence passes between them.) Blaze: "I'm sorry. I realize why you were made my co-captain. How you show your strength is different, but I respect it." Eugene: "No need for apologies. I thank you for the compliment. I admire your physical raw power as well. Between the two of us...there is nothing we cannot do." (Scene: Hearing this Blaze smiles, nods his head.) Blaze: "Thanks for saving my life, and next time we won't let our mark get away. Teamwork first from now on." (Scene: Saying this Blaze outstretches his hand) Eugene: "Teamwork first" (Scene: Eugene shakes firmly as the issue closes with a shot of them determinedly staring at one another smiling.)

Beast Souls
(Scene: California redwood forest, an advanced style tree house centered at the top of the middle one in the shot. Blaze; a fiery haired shaggy young man with a half hoodie, "fireball" necklace, and swim trunks with flame print. Sits beside a huge Fu dog style statuesque figure made of fire with glowing green eyes "Ember". They're leaning against the tree looking over a sheet in Blazes hand)
Blaze: "Man, look at this sad list!"
Ember: "Sad?"
Blaze: "Yeah! None of these bounties are over $500!?"
Ember: "Isn't their bounty directly related to their class and skill?"
Blaze: "Yes? What's your point?"
Ember: "My point IS; are you really MAD there aren't MORE dangerous people in the area?"
Blaze: "Not EXACTLY, it's just, we got bills to pay! Plus we need to eat! On top of that class ones are boring now, they're not even challenging anymore. We'll never get stronger at this rate."
Ember: "Hmmm...I guess you have a point. That IS the amateur list though. Itâs not like we're proud souls."
Blaze: "AH! Proud Souls. Now THAT's the life! Hunting hardcore baddies for big pay and privileges."
Ember: "Seeing as its invite only guess we'll stick with the small fry for now"
Blaze (annoyed face): "I guess so. Hmm. How about this guy? Bounties $500, highest on the sheet, says has been mugging young rich ladies in the market."
Ember: "What despicable behavior! We should teach him better manners!"
Blaze (serious face): Yes.....yes we should."
(Scene point: Last shot in scene is bounty page with picture of a manâs face and the names Fig and Twig at the top with a bounty of $500)
(End scene 1)
(Scene: Blaze narrates a flashback accompanied with coinciding pictures of the places mentioned, him running away from a house, under a tree, etc.)
Blaze (narrating): "I've been living day by day this way since the very beginning. The day I first met Ember, my very own beast soul.
I had ran away from a bad home in the middle of winter before a terrible snowstorm. Guess that wasn't the brightest idea.
I finally found shelter inside a huge hole in a tree. Only problem was the hole was so big that snow was blowing in making it almost impossible to start a fire. Notice I said almost? I had found rocks to serve as flint, but were getting wet from the snow, and I was getting colder."
Child Blaze: "COME ON! Light already! If you don't light....ILL DIE!"
(Scene: as child Blaze slams the two pieces of flint together in one last ditch effort they explode into sparks and the small explosion becomes a puppy made of fire)
Child Blaze: "WOAH!? What.....ARE you!?"
Blaze (narrating): "I was in complete shock. The puppy seemed to be made of fire but it didn't burn me when I got near it or touched it. It kept me warm. I thought at first I was hallucinating until..."
Ember (puppy): "I'm.....Ember."
Child Blaze: âHEY! I hear you in my head!?"
Ember (puppy): "Yes, I'm here because of you! I'm here to help you survive."
Blaze (narrating): "I didn't understand then completely what I had done. It was only when I made it to the city and a man named Argyl appeared before me with a certain letter that I truly understood."
(Scene: Now in a big city back alley with child blaze and a man in a black/blue suit with open lapel and lacey undershirt tucked back collars and red shoes, strong dark hair and eyes (hair of below shoulder length) Argyl )
Argyl: "You unlocked your potential and summoned your Beast Soul"
Child Blaze: âBeast...Soul?"
Argyl: "Yes, An amazing creature summoned forth to exist by using a sliver of your soul! It's part of you!"
Child Blaze: "Wow! COOL! But......how did I do it?"
Argyl: "None know for sure WHY some have this strange ability, BUT what IS known is that it's been around for a VERY long time, and only extreme circumstances, instincts, and large releases of adrenaline can cause a potential soul to fracture."
Child Blaze: "Wait.....so you're saying I summoned it because I thought Iâd die from the cold!?"
Argyl: "In your case, yes, it would appear that way. As a result Ember is made of pure heat. Many of these beast souls have powers; How you use them is up to you, however, you should read this letter very carefully first."
(Scene: Argyl stops pacing and hands Blaze a letter, blaze looks down at the letter)
Child Blaze: "Okay, but I still don't get why....."
(Scene: Blaze looks up to notice that Argyl has already disappeared)
Child Blaze: "HEY! Where'd he go.....? Hmmm..."
(Scene: Blaze looks down at the letter again then opens it carefully, its contents now fully displayed. The letter reads as follows; "Dear Blaze, Congratulations on your recent awakening and welcome to the world of Beast Souls! We are The Society of Myth, a government of sorts for Users like yourself. Do what you will with your newfound powers; but know this, we WILL be watching. If you commit evil deeds or disrupt the world in any way we WILL find you. You have been warned. Sincerely, Mr. Koji P.S. This is your ONLY warning!" after this blaze continues to narrate with pictures of him through the years hunting, cooking, and finally some shots of him handing over Rouges to Argyl)
Blaze (narrating): "Naturally as a young boy the letter had terrified me. I definitely DIDN'T want the Society after me. I ended up using my powers mostly just for hunting and cooking.
Eventually, once I was old enough, I was informed of the Amateur List and Bounties (a list of low level trouble makers other users can catch for money). So I decided that's how I and Ember would make a living.
We've been fighting ever since."
(Scene 2 "flashback sequence" End)
(Scene opens to current day a California local marketplace where The List said Fig would be. Blaze walking around the high end of the market)
Blaze: "Man! Sure is busy today!"
Ember: âIt IS Saturday you knowâ
Blaze: âGood that means lots of Richie teen girls will be out shopping. Perfect bait for our bounty!â
Ember: âThatâsâŠ.not necessarily a âhappyâ thought.â
Blaze: âDonât worry Ember. I wonât let anyone get hurt, weâll be ever vigilant!â
(Saying this Blaze does a comical hand above eyes back and forth scan?)
Ember: âBlaze, look over there!â
Blaze: âWOAH! Sheâs obviously the richest girl here!â
(In the distance a women with nice clothing, expensive jewelry, and even a servant carrying many bags.)
Ember: âYes, but if WE noticed her that easily, then that meansâŠ.â
Blaze: âOur bounty might too!â
(Scene: after tailing the girl only a couple of minutes they notices a shadowy figure wearing sunglasses staring and following her intently)
Blaze: âHey, looks like that guys watching her too!â
Ember: âYes, and its way too cloudy for sunglasses.â
Blaze: âDefinitely, looks like weâre on to something.â
(Scene: They keep following the young girl as they do the man follows also)
Blaze: âLooks like heâs our man!â
Ember: âWe canât be sure until he makes his move, harming civilians with our powers is against the rules. We have to be sure heâs Figâ
Blaze: âI know, donât worry, weâre reaching the end of the market if heâs planning on making a move heâll have to do it soon!â
(Scene: They finally end up in a more deserted area of shops. Closed or out of business signs dot the windows. They overhear the woman)
Woman: âOh my, it appears weâve come too far Jamesâ
James: âYes madam, we should find our way back immediately. This place looks unsavory.â
Woman: âI think the main market is this way?â
(Scene: Just then the dark figured man steps forward)
Man: âI can show you the way back miss.â
Woman: âWhy thank you kind sirâ
Man (smiling intently): âMy pleasure!â
(Scene: saying this the man leads them instead down a back alleyâ
Blaze: âHere it comes!â
Ember: âDonât go down there until he reveals himself!â
James: âHmmm. This doesnât look right at allâ
Man: âYouâre right. Thatâs because, ITâS NOT!â
(Scene: saying this the man discards the jacket and sunglasses revealing the face of Fig from the wanted poster)
Blaze: âIT IS HIM! I KNEW ITâ
Ember: âAlright LETâS GO!â
(Scene: Racing in Blaze steps in front of the lady)
Blaze: âYou might want to get out of here lady, it might get ugly.â
(Scene: Saying this Blaze throws out his hand wide as an explosion occurs summoning Ember into existence)
Woman: âOH MY GOD! WHAT IS THAT?â
James: âMy lady we need to leave NOW!â
(Scene: Saying this the man and woman drop their bags and high-tail it from the alley)
Fig (scowling): âYOU BASTARD! I donât know who you are but that was my catch of the day, and you scared her off! You wonât get away with this.â
Blaze: âSorry. I never did have good luck with the ladies. Ha ha ha.â
Fig: âARGH! You think this is FUNNY!? Iâll show you the PUNCHLINE!â
(Scene: Fig claps his hands together. As he pulls them apart a long smooth brown object materializes between them. A giant stick bug creature is revealed.)
Fig: âMeet Twig, my faithful companion. The most powerful stick in the world!â
(Scene: Seeing this Blaze and Ember look at each other. Then back to him. After which they burst into teary-eyed laughter.)
Blaze: âOH MY GOD! Thatâs got to be the worst Beast Soul Iâve EVER seen!â
Fig: âYes, I suppose he doesnât look very impressive eh? But I assure you looks can be deceiving.â
Twig: âYes my good sirs, do not count me among the trash just yet!â
Blaze: âHUH? You talk silly too!?â
Twig: âYes, I suppose to a barbaric simpleton such as you my linguistics are quite strange.â
Blaze: âBarbaric simpleton!? Thatâs an insultâŠâŠright Ember?â
Ember: âYes, but youâre not exactly helping your case.â
Blaze: âUgh, whatever letâs just fight already. Then I will SHOW you âbarbaricââ
Fig: âAs you wish!â
(Scene: saying this they step forward Ember growling at Blazeâs side and Fig brandishing Twig as a wooden sword)
Blaze (smirking): âYour move stick boyâ
Fig: âIndeedâ
(Scene: Fig rushes forward jumping over Ember and coming down with a heavy strike toward Blaze, Blaze then rolls back and stands as Twig slams the ground breaking it up a little)
Blaze: âEmber GO!â
(Scene: Ember jumps toward Fig spinning into a giant fireball slamming Fig right in the chest and up against the alley walls)
Fig: âI see you are well practiced.â
Blaze: âOh, you have no idea pal!â
(Scene: Fig and Twig stand quickly back to ready stance)
Twig: âWe should enlighten them to our true power sirâ
Fig: âYes, I believe youâre right Twig!â
(Scene: They rush Blaze again jumping over Ember they swipe at Blazeâs feet as he jumps Twig changes direction and grows in length until Blaze is slammed against the opposite wall)
Blaze: âArgh! Damn! What was that?â
Ember: âHE STRETCHED!?â
Fig: âVery observant, Twig can stretch himself to any length without reducing strength in blows or structural integrity.â
Twig: âNow you see donât you!? Youâll not be getting close to us again, and my reach is ABSOLUTE!â
Blaze (shrugging): âSo!? You think a parlor trick like that is gonna scare me? EmberâŠ..Time to get seriousâ
Ember: âGood, I was getting bored hanging backâ
(Scene: Blaze stretches out his left hand fingers apart palm to the sky. Ember becomes a flame tunnel racing down Blazes arm. When he reaches the end Ember transforms into a glowing sun-shaped ball)
Blaze (jumping): âBlazing SHOT!â
(Scene: Blaze strikes the growing glowing sun-shaped sphere of fire with his free hand. HARD. This sends it spinning, flaming, and flying toward Fig and Twig)
Fig: âARGGHH!â
(Scene: Fig uses Twig to try and block the shot. It overwhelms them. When it clears they are on the ground and Blaze is facing away from them.â
Blaze: âAlright, letâs call Argyl.â
(Scene: Even while saying this the bloodied Fig and Twig start to stand)
Fig: âDonât count me out yet!â
(Scene: Saying this Blaze turns as Fig pulls a hidden sword from twig and it grows into and through his shoulder pinning him to the brick wall)
Blaze: âNOT AGAIN!?â
Ember: âA sword!?â
Twig: âIâm actually a SHEETHâ
(Scene: Blaze grabs the blade with both hands, the blades cut his skin)
Blaze: âIâm SICK of playing your GAMES!â
(Scene: Saying this with gritted teeth he pushes the blade out and Fig and Twig away.)
Fig and Twig together: âNO IMPOSSIBLE!â
Ember: âUSE IT!â
Blaze: âYeah. Letâs finish this!â
(Scene: Fig grows the blade swinging at Blaze. Blaze jumps dodging the blade as it slices the brick wall clean. As Blaze lands he outstretches both hands together into a âGunâ Shape. Embers flame tunnel goes through him over shoulders down arms and to his fingertips glowing like a red star.)
Blaze: âFire-Gun Fingerâ
(Scene: A giant white hot beam is shot from his fingertips)
Fig and Twig together: âNOOOOOâ
(Scene: Blaze and Ember looking down over the charred scratched up body of Fig. Twig now gone because of Fig being passed out.)
Ember: âWell, he was certainly a handfulâ
Blaze: âHe was annoying.â
Ember: âYes, Heâs out now for sure though.â
Blaze: âGood letâs call Argyl for real this timeâ
(Scene: Pulling a black feather from his pocket and holding close to his head closing his eyes)
Blaze: âYo Argyl we got Fig here.â
(Scene: In a whoosh of feathers and flapping Argyl and his raven Nevermore appear. Seeing the condition of Blazeâs Shoulder.)
Argyl: âHmmmâŠâŠthatâs the first injury youâve had in a while.â
Blaze: âYeah, he surprised me because I didnât take him seriously. That WONâT happen again!â
Argyl: âLetâs hope not. Especially if you plan on accepting this!â
(Scene: Argyl then hands Blaze a letter with the society seal, a dragon around an eye gem.)
Blaze: âWell, this takes me back!â
Argyl: âJust open it.â
(Scene: The opened letter reads: âDear Blaze, Iâve noticed great potential within you as youâve hunted down these amateurs. Yet, you lack structure and discipline. Sometimes the only way to force these traits is dropping a great responsibility in oneâs lap. Such as, an invitation to become a Proud Soul. Not just a regular but a leader of a Souls Unit. It would honor me for you to accept.
Sincerely, Mr. Koji)
Blaze: âIs thisâŠ..is this for real!?â
Argyl: âYes, itâs quite real. The Seeing Souls have monitored your progress for some time now. From the reports Koji thinks the position is perfect for you.â
Blaze: âItâs just, Iâve been dreaming of this for a while now, andâŠ..now that Iâm actually faced with the decision itâs a lot to consider.â
Argyl: âUnderstandable. The Rouge Souls youâd be hunting as a Proud Soul are two times or more strong than you currently hunt. Also youâd be uprooted from your current home to a more secure home of our choosing. Finally any and all monetary needs would be met by the Society.â
Blaze: âThat last bit sounds nice, butâŠ.leaving my home, and having others depend on me sounds tough.â
Argyl: âYouâd be a fool not to give it some thought. Know this however, Mr. Koji has personally vouched for you. This hardly ever happens, but when it does you can be sure itâs with good reason. Mr. Koji Never acts without thinking out every possible consequence first. You have until tomorrow.â
(Scene: Saying this he vanishes with Fig in a cloud of feathers.)
Ember: âLets head home for now. We can think about it there.â
Blaze: âYeah, youâre right.â
(Scene: In Mister Kojiâs office now: Argyl appears knelt before a big desk where Koji sits, his face obscured by dark the figure of a dragon sleeping behind him against a wall of windows behind the desk.)
Argyl: âIâve delivered the invitationâ
Koji: âVery good. His brash nature and blind bravery are a front to how truly unsure he is of himself. That may be the cause of his arrogance. Regardless he will acceptâŠ..and he will grow immensely.â
Argyl: âEither way he only has till tomorrow, but youâve never been wrong before.â
Koji: âPerfect. You are dismissed. Go find his first teammate.â
Argyl: âYes sirâ
(Scene: bowing deeply he disappears again. Koji turns toward the dragon his face still being cut off, he looks down)
Koji: âHis growth will be most interesting to watch eh, Thaimat?â
Thaimat: â*grunt*â
(Scene: Back at Blazeâs treehouse home)
Blaze: âI canât believe it, The Proud Souls! Head of my own unitâŠ.â
Ember: âYou were just complaining about these amateur lists being too easyâ
Blaze: âYeah, but a LEADER? Me? A loner maybe, sure! But Iâm no leader.â
Ember: âYou know we havenât seen much of the world, perhaps you underestimate yourself?â
Blaze: âMaybeâŠâŠwe have been alone a long time.â
Ember: âFamiliarity however comfortable will never beget change. Only change causes growth.â
Blaze: âI DO want to become strongerâŠ.â
Ember: âThen accept the offer. Weâll see new places, meet new friends, and possibly gain new strength.â
Blaze: âA-+ND have all our bills paid FOR usâ (snickering)
Ember (laughing): âYes there IS that too I suppose.â
Blaze: âIâll get to travel, make friends, and help the world? Who could say no to that job?â
Ember: âGood. We should pack.â
Blaze: âYes, I think we should. Heâll be back tomorrow.â
(Scene: Blaze and Ember stand on the deck of their treehouse home fondly admiring it they turn bags and luggage at their heels to see Argyl appear)
Argyl: âSo. Have you given it some thought?â
Blaze: âYeah, a lot. Iâve decided to do it. I want to see what else there is out there, and how strong I am. Plus, it would be rude to mister Koji having placed his faith in me.â
Argyl: âIâm glad to hear that you feel that way. Iâve known you since you were a boy youâll make The Society proud.â
Blaze: âAw shucks! Donât go soft on me!â
Argyl (chuckling): âMy apologiesâŠâŠ.Now; I will explain how it all works and take you to your new home.â
Blaze: âExplain how what works?
Argyl: âYes. Well you see there are 3 major divisions of The Society of Myth. The Seeing Souls which monitor the world for news of Rouge Souls, and who also do our spying. They are the ones who watched your progress and reported it to Kojiâ
Blaze: âI was being watched!?â
Argyl: âDonât feel bad most users are monitored somewhat to make sure the world stays balanced. At any rate, the next group is the Inquisitive Souls. These are our scientists, mechanics, inventors, and all around researchers. They also keep our lore dating back to the dawn of mankind. Finally, there are the Proud Souls, which your are now a member of. These users risk their lives in teams called âunitsâ in order to guarantee peace in the world. Despite those Rouge Souls who wish to abuse their gift. These Units get assignments from handlers around twice a month.â
Blaze: âA MONTH!?
Argyl: âYes, many of these tasks will take days, even weeks to complete. You must realize this is no amateur list these Rouges know how to hide their presence and they do it well.â
Blaze: âAh, ok. Then I have a question. Which of the branches are you and Mr. Koji?â
Argyl: âGood question. We along with one other user are called the Cerberus. The âThree-heads of The Societyâ. We lead the Seeing Souls. Us along with the head of the Inquisitive Souls, and the top ranking Proud Soul leaders, make up the Societies governing body.â
Blaze: âSo what rank will I be?â
Argyl: âYou well start at Novice, as you gain notability and new members you will be given harder tasks. Complete a difficult task or show great promise, and we will reward you a new rank. All the way up to Master Souls. Master Souls help run the Society and insure the safety of the entire world, their powers are immense. Right now there are only two. Thatâs how rare the position is given. Now that thatâs explained shall we go?â
Blaze: âThatâs a lot to take in, but Iâm sure Iâll figure it out. Yeah, we can go.â
(Scene: Taking one last somber look back at their home Ember and Blaze disappear with Argyl. Reappearing outside a rural apartment in Japan)
Argyl: âWelcome home.â
Blaze: âWhat!? This whole place!?â
Argyl: âOf course. You wonât be alone long. Youâll have a team remember?â
Blaze: âOh yeah! SoâŠ..where are my teammates?â
Argyl: âMost Proud Souls pick their own unit by hand out of friends or through hiring channels. But, since you have lived as a loner for most your life your options are low. Which is why me and Koji have picked your first teammate and Co-Captain for you.â
Blaze: âWhoa REALLY!? Is he strong?â
Argyl: âOh yes, most likely in ways you might not understand. Look this over and Iâll go fetch himâ
(Scene: Argyl hands Blaze a Seerâs Sheet a page with information on a User collected by the Society)
Blaze: âMy first teammateâŠ..â
(Scene: The last shot is a black outline of a body and the name Eugene at the top of the page)
