Being misunderstood does not always mean something is wrong with you.

For many neurodivergent people, masking becomes a survival tool. It means hiding your natural behaviors, forcing yourself to fit in, and shaping your identity to meet other people’s expectations. But masking is exhausting. It can leave you feeling disconnected from who you really are.

When you finally stop performing, people might misunderstand you at first. That is okay. It means you are choosing authenticity over constant self-editing. You are allowing yourself to exist as you are, without apology.

Neurodiversity deserves safe spaces. Spaces where every voice is valued, every need is respected, and every person feels like they truly belong.

Ensuring accessibility, amplifying marginalized voices, and creating inclusive spaces doesn’t take anything away from those already included. It simply means leveling the playing field so that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

If the idea of equality feels like a threat, it’s worth asking: was the system ever truly fair to begin with?
