i adore this addition to the series, because it makes the story even more tragic. there is a special tragedy in a friendship that has broken apart because life just happened. and i loved there anger towards each other in the second half of s1. because if there no anger, there will be pain. and it’s better to hate, than pick up the pieces. and, well a lost friend is something that stays with you forever, i wished they showed how neither of them could fulfil this sort of closeness with anyone else. there missing parts of each other, but there is no way of going back.

p.s. it’s about the fandom, you ship what you like, but i personally sense that the writing is also leaning towards that interpretation of them

she has been alone for all those years, didn’t she seek at leat some peace in the company of her kids. s2 made us believe she loved them when they were little and charming, but then suddenly they grew up in this monstrous people in her eyes, so she dropped them like they haven’t been her entire being all this years.

there can be a hatred towards viserys that passed to their shared kids, but the thing is that they are not like him at all. and show makes us believe alicent is okay with him. she even questioned why they are not like him. i really expected it to be the core of her arc - finding middle ground with all of her kids and not drifting away from them completely like it wasn’t her solemn purpose to fight all this time. i loved her being “yes, they can be total idiots, but they are mine and i still love and die for them”.

we have these two narratives of those who take this position and serve with dignity, and those who just want shiny armour. and you can’t argue that cole started as the first type, he viewed it as something sacred, something that is written in the books. but in s2 he seems to understand how little value it actually holds for his own wards. i think he sees it as his own failure, knowing damn well he is a part of this structure that is actually not as fancy as it looks from outside. those line about “the white cloak being soiled” is a great representation of the whole situation that brings criston to where he is. frantic in his desire to change it, leading to even more damage.
