Online in the English-speaking fandom, you will find everything from “her arrest was confirmed” to “how dare you even ask the question?! You’re catering to antis and ruining her name.” But since rumors of MXTX’s arrest keep popping up and there’s been no direct word from MXTX herself for close to two years (and because I have anxiety) I decided to investigate and fact-check for myself.  

Let me start with this: I’m not interested in gossip and speculation. I’m a concerned fan interested in the truth. Going forward I will be explicit regarding what is fact and what is my own analysis. If you are an anti or someone who believes that the process of investigating rumors automatically grants rumors power, please spare yourself and stop now.  

I should also add a major disclaimer: …I only know conversational Chinese and had to rely on several online translators for most of this. Yeah, I’m not the person for the job. I know. But since I didn’t know or hear of anyone else doing an objective fact check, I decided to try anyways. To this end, I have referenced all the facts I will discuss, so you can and should double-check my results yourself. 

Claim: MXTX is the ‘Yuan’ (袁) investigated in the 3.28 case concerning pornography and illegal business. She was detained in May 2019. The rumors surfaced with an announcement in August 2019, and the judgment was released on November 10, 2020.

For what it is worth, I will not be treating this claim as an all-or-nothing statement; I will be investigating with the notion that all, some, or none of it could be true.

I’ve gotten this question a few times now and I have to be honest, I’m not sure why anyone would think that I would say yes to this.

To be clear, this is an unequivocal NO. Do not take any of my fics and change them to suit your ship.

Let me give a bit of an explanation, though, to help you understand why this isn’t an appropriate question to ask a writer. Basically, you’re asking me for permission to plagiarize my work. It doesn’t matter that you’re saying you would give me credit - that’s kind of ridiculous, actually, to be credited for something that’s already mine, that I spent hours upon hours working on. I wrote all of my fics for a specific fandom, for specific characters, and changing the names and some “minor details” is not what I wanted when I wrote it, and it’s not what I want now.

Writing is hard. It takes hours and days and weeks and months and years. It takes a lot of work, and that work is seldom easy. It’s almost impossible sometimes - there’s times that I have to fight for every word that I put down onto a page. Fics take me months to write. Hell, there’s one that took me over a year. My metaphorical blood is in these stories, and for you to ask me to give them up just so that you can claim them for your own fandom is a little insulting. The time and effort it took to create these things don’t get acknowledged a lot, but this request completely demolishes them and reduces me, my writing skills, to nothing.

I’m happy that you enjoyed my work enough to be able to envision your characters in them, but if you want fics for your fandom you can’t just take them from other pairings. You can take inspiration, of course, use similar situations and plots, but a word for word copy is never going to fly. Please stop going around to ask authors this.
