at her core, chloe is deeply insecure, we know this. chloe is a sixteen-year-girl living in a time where social media and societal expectations reign supreme, and she is clearly currently at a point in her life where thinks she owes boys sexual gratification, and she believes it’s all she’s good for. jumping between guys and acting like she’s in charge of everything are the only ways she feels she can get attention. she falls apart when jake leaves her, crashes out when he starts going after new girls. she does anything to get jeremy’s eyes on her instead. she clearly lacks the proper amount of support, attention, and care at home, which leads me to believe her parents are likely divorced (as told by her level of instability throughout bmc) and she just needs guidance. she just needs some mental help guys. it’s obvious that chloe has a ton of personal issues that lead her to treat other people like pawns or tools, and i honestly believe she’s just not aware she’s doing it. that doesn’t make it okay, but you have to understand that as a teenage girl, chloe has been exploited for her body, her personality, her power, and her status, and she believes any ounce of attraction or “yearning” towards her automatically means she’s wanted, and therefore she must reciprocate. because who is she as a beautiful young woman to tell a guy no when he wants something from her? she’s not perfect by any means (except for maybe in my eyes), however she is going through a lot and we must acknowledge the nuance behind her actions and realize that she’s not “irredeemable”, she’s just an asshole sixteen-year-old girl who was hurt and exploited and thought it was right for her to do the same thing. by the end of be more chill, she is clearly aware of her flaws and issues (which—her squip was herself. thinking about the implications of that is so deeply unsettling. what did it say to her? how much does she hate herself that her squip is herself?), and i believe she is capable of working through them like anyone else and she’s capable being a good friend to everyone, including brooke and jeremy. i doubt her relationship will be the same with them ever again, but that’s a very good thing. all of the bmc kiddos seem to realize they’re all some kind of super fucked up and that’s why they’re so drawn to each other. they’re all such empathetic and kind, understanding kiddos at their core. they’re gonna be okay i promise. while problematic, chloe is gonna be okay and she is a brilliant, strong young woman who just needs the right amount of guidance and support and i choose to give her love because she is such a wonderfully complex character who’s never rlly given a second thought :’) ♡
