Blink and youāll miss it.
Just like that, my five (what felt like a life time) years at Woolworths came to end then following suit was the ending of my two years with the Cotton On Group.
In what I thought was the longest three years of my whole existence, turned out to be worth every minute of misery. I finally finished my Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) degree at Deakin University in October 2018. Being the full time student I am, I obviously had no money to go travelling so the job search begun.
I didnāt know what āroleā in particular that I was after but I just knew it had to be in sport and involved in the media some how. I honestly thought the working for the AFL was the dream but turns out you canāt just click your fingers and get the job you want, shocker! I applied for jobs that I literally had no experience for and probably would have sucked at anyway, but I just craved that full time work (weird, I know).
By the 31st of December 2018, I was officially out of Woolies and Cotton On and enjoying a week of doing absolutely nothing and being a blob at home. I was offered the role of Digital, Marketing and Events Coordinator with Gymnastics Australia to start in the new year. I convinced myself that it wasnāt meant to be even though I had gone through the interview process and happy with how I went. YET, HELLO, HERE I AM!
I am in my second week of my new job and if you told me this is where I would be six months agoā¦ I would have told you ātell him heās dreamin.ā Itās only my second week so nothing much has really changed for me but I am all about finding a set routine, finding some time for this writing side hustle of mine and just enjoying myself this year.
I wouldnāt say 2018 was the worst year ālike everā but it definitely had its moments. And some ripper times too. Iām now 23 and I know the friends that I have are the ones that will *cliche alert* last a life time. My family are everything, always. Got the job of my dreams and to put it simplyā¦ Iām happy.
So people that read this blog, this is what you may have missed out on in my 2018: ā From 2017 to Jan 2018 I interned with the Deakin Melbourne Boomers who play in the Womenās National Basketball League. I flew to Townsville with them for Game 3 of the Grand Final Series which was CRAZY. ā I interned with the Eastern Football League writing things and posted stuff online for them. If youāre my friend on Facebook, you would know because I shared them every week. ā I played my first season of Australian Rules Football with the Whitefriars Womenās Team. We went on to win the premiership in our first ever season, honestly there is no better feeling. Couldnāt have asked for a better group of girls to play footy with. ā I found out that my darling Nana Nancy always loved journalism which made me love (okay maybe just enjoy) my university journey. Sadly, she passed away in 2018 but what a woman she was. ā I of course played netball for all of 2018, my love for the sport will never change. ā I finished and passed my bloody degree. Who wouldāve thought it, hey? But what a FEELING. ā My boyfriend took me to Sydney for a weekend which was my first ever time travelling there. I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the rain which was fun too. ā Did the biggest chop of my hair I have done in years, what a relief that when I shower it doesnāt take an extra 20 minutes to put some conditioner in. ā Said bye bye to Woolies (FOREVER) and said see you later to my Cotton On fam. ā I celebrated milestones, birthdays, went to (not many) events (because I barely leave the house unless I have too) and cherished the moments spent with friends and family.
But for now, maybe letās not wait so long between posts.
