"yeah, haha, what a coincidence," you chuckle awkwardly.

"yeah..." she says.

and then, a small, exhausted smile. if you look closer, she's tired. bags under her eyes, shoulders slumped. she must've been preparing for this all night. the kitchen lights didn't switch off until four am last night. you knew because you remembered waking up and seeing the string of light sliding in from under your door.

maybe this is her first time teaching?

"is this your first time teaching a class?" you ask gently.

her eyes widen slightly, "do i look like it?"

"n-no. of course not! i noticed the kitchen light on last night, so...i just assumed you might be nervous or something," you explain.

she sighs, "i'm a bit nervous."

"i don't know how much i can console you, but i'm sure you'll do great!" you claim, giving her two big thumbs-up.

she laughs, the sound hollow, "thanks, y/n. i'll try my best."

you nod and head to your seat in the middle of the lecture hall where toge and megumi are. you sit beside toge. they don't say anything, just stare.

"what the hell are you looking at?" you ask them.

"what was that?" toge says, gesturing down to shoko.

"just asked her to be my girlfriend," you reply.

toge and megumi groan in sync.

"thanks for the support, guys. yeah? real great friends," you say, rolling your eyes.

it would be a lie to say that you didn't pay extra attention in shoko's anatomy class. perched forward, typing notes like crazy as she went through the usual introductory segment all subjects do at the start of the semester.

toge and megumi exchange glances of judgement. you ignore them, focusing on shoko. honestly, you were paying attention to her more than the slideshow on the big screen.

you can tell she has what it takes to be a good teacher, but in between the stuttering, sighs and mistakes through her speech, she's extremely nervous. there has to be at least eighty people in the lecture hall right now. you can only imagine how intimidating that is.

by the time the end of class came, people are leaving the hall before her dismissal. you scrunch your nose at the disrespect of those students.

you don't get out of your seat until she says the class is over.

"i gotta go to my next class," megumi announces, slinging his bag over his shoulder and leaving the class.

"yuuta's at the courtyard. are you coming, y/n?" toge asks you.

"i have an hour before my next class. go ahead, i wanna talk to her," you answer.

"hm, okay. don't scissor, there's cameras everywhere," he smiles, packing his books up.

you punch him playfully, "just go, bitch. you're so annoying."

toge also leaves.

when there are a few students left in the hall, you slowly climb down the stairs. shoko is sitting on her chair, typing away on her laptop.

she looks up with a lopsided smile, "dud class, huh?"

she says it as a joke, but you don't take it as one. you shake your head, "i really enjoyed it. i actually don't like anatomy, but you made it sound interesting."

shoko's eyes light up and she scoffs, "seriously?"

"mhm," you nod affirmatively. "how come you decided to become a lecturer?"

"ah, well, i'm working on my phd. so, i kind of have to take a couple classes," she answers, closing her laptop. she stands up to pack her things up. "i finish at 3pm today. if you finish your classes by then, i'll drive us home."

"o-oh," you awkwardly laugh. "i wouldn't wanna impose on your time. it's okay! i can make my own way home."

"it's fine, really. i can tell you're a nice girl and putting up with nobara is difficult. gotta reward you for that," she insists.

you're terrible at saying no, especially to pretty girls.

"okay, then. thank you," you respond.

"sweet," she smiles, that same exhausted one. "give me your number."

tsukishima and you spend an hour adding the final touches to your project, practicing your speeches and finalising the light-up poster that will stand beside the skeleton on the day.

"looks good," you finally sigh, taking a step back.

"i can't get over the head," tsukishima says, poking it again. "it looks stupid."

"will you stop that?" you ask. "it'll collapse."

"we agreed to be civil, didn't we?"

you furrow your brows, "i am. i'm politely asking you not to damage our 100%."

"real polite," tsukishima rolls his eyes.

you hold it in.

you really do.

you could say something, but there's no point right now. you're almost done with this. you can finally go home for the day, relax and not worry about science fair stuff until the day.

"i'm gonna go—"

tsukishima pokes the head once more.

it happens in slow motion.

your heart drops to your ass the same way the plastic head drops to the ground. a slight bit of hope rises, that you'll be able to fix it. it's just the head. that's until the whole body collapses in a recycled heap on the lab floor.

you drop to your knees.

you're unsure of how much time passes.

you're sitting on your knees, staring at the destruction, unable to get past the initial shock.

"oh, shit," tsukishima mumbles under his breath.

"are you kidding me?" you scoff, turning your head to face him.

"i didn't mean to—"

"how many times...?" you scold, getting up from the floor. the rage pulses through your veins as you close the distance between you and tsukishima. "how many times did i fucking tell you not to touch it? i told you it would break, didn't i?!"

you don't know if you're too angry, but you can see the way tsukishima gulps. he clears his throat, peering down at the skeleton, "we can fix it."

"you're so full of shit!" you laugh sardonically. "this whole time! you were looking for a way to annoy me, press my buttons and it's costed us 40% of our grade."

"we can fix it," he reiterates, standing straight.

as if that makes him taller. makes him higher than you. well, you're just not going to take that.

"no, let's talk! you did this just to piss me off."

"i didn't. it was an accident," he says. that same tone. that same blankness written on his face.

"accident my ass!" you yell.

"why are you yelling—"

"stop trying to silence me!" you snap. "it doesn't change the fact you fucking destroyed the skeleton. you did it because you wanted to see how far i'd go with this whole civility thing! that's you, tsukishima! just a piece of shit, thinking you're on some high horse. wake the fuck up!"

he doesn't say anything. he really can't.

you grab your backpack.

this was seriously your last straw. you can't handle another second around him. on top of that, you can feel the tears sliding up to the brim of your lids.

"where are you going?" he asks, grabbing your wrist.

you dust his hand off, "i can't do this."

"you're just going to give up?"

you don't give him a response.

he doesn't deserve one anyways.
