after an intense morning rush, it was finally slowing down at the cafe. mari loved the business, don’t get her wrong, but she enjoyed the periodic slow hours more. it gave her extra time with her customers, and she loved talking to them. currently it was empty, so she decided to take advantage of this lull and grab a book—her cat, shelley, hopping on the warlock’s shoulder as she walked away. normally, she wouldn’t be in such a hurry but she didn’t have any other workers to help her yet. she gazing at the ❛ help wanted ❜ sign at front of her store as she returned to the counter. but it wasn’t a worried glance, she had only put it up a few hours ago; not to mention, 은신처  was fairly new to the neighborhood. just as she sat down and opened her book, the bell attached to the entrance door chimed causing her to look up and put on her best smile as she greeted, ❝ hi, welcome! let me know if you need help with anything. ❞

at   the   sound   of   the   warlock’s   voice,   she   quickly   put   on   a   small   smile.   warlocks   had   a   pleasant   smell   to   them,   not   too   strong   but   just   enough   to   make   her   mood   brighten.   after   a   hundred   or   so   years,   aurora   had   grown   accustomed   to   one   human   delight,   and   that   was   chocolate.   “   i   would   like   one   small   hot   chocolate   with   whipped   cream,   please.   ”   she   glanced   around   at   the   empty   cafe,   and   almost   instantly   fell   in   love   with   the   peaceful   atmosphere.   she   could   never   work   there,   of   course,   it   wasn’t   like   her   to   stay   in   one   place   for   so   long.   “   i   haven’t   seen   this   place   before,   did   it   just   open?   ”   of   course   she   knew   the   answer   to   that,   but   sue   her   for   trying   to   start   a   friendly   conversation.

❝ hi, excuse me? sorry to bother you. ❞  she paused suddenly, realizing the energy they gave off wasn’t human, but kept a straight face as to not arouse any trouble or give her faerie identity away. ❝ so, uh. i just was wondering if you happen to know directions to a 7-eleven around here, near city hall. do you happen to know the way there? ❞ she wondered if she was talking to a wall, hoping the other would turn around and save her the trouble of wandering around for another hour.

after  one or  two  mental  pep talks  that took the  span of a few seconds,  and swallowing some comments  she wanted to say, the shadowhunter  remembered the question at hand. “  7-eleven,  huh?  i don’t  know specific...directions  to them because there are many   just  scattered around, even near city  hall. ”  the  girl had  trained with  the best combat  fighters in the world  just to protect regular  people, mundanes, from these  creatures. however, here she was,  asked to give them directions to convenience  stores.  this was  more than enough  in her opinion. “  are  you new  to the city?  ”
