Look to the Sky

The mv starts of with most of the girls looking up towards the sky. If your new to LOONA, you might not know that many of LOONA’s pre-debut mvs features the members looking towards the sky. We see HeeJin look to a crescent moon. Not only does the moon represent the official symbol of the group, but also the group as a whole. With each member being revealed to the group, the moon changes phase, until a full moon is revealed. The mv takes place after all of the units of LOONA have formed. Now being aware of each others presence, they seek each other out and plan to meet in the LOONAVERSE/MOON

Familiar Face in a Familiar Place

The plot of Hi High is that the LOONA members are in search of each other. As the girls move across the world searching for the other LOONA members, they are coming across familiar locations from the past mvs. HeeJin (left) and Kim Lip come across the ‘꽃/flower’ stairs from Yves solo mv (right). HeeJin also starts the mv on a rooftop, similar to the one where she found Olivia in ‘Egoist’. These common locations show how the worlds of the LOONA girls are starting to collide, and that they are trying to find each other in the world.

Where Are They Now?

The girls of LOONA are not actually together in this mv, except in the dance scenes, but are rather separate or in groups depending on where and when their story last left off. 

ViVi: wearing her track suit from Love & Live, as a human, she continues to run. But after seeing where all that running will lead to (the LOONAVERSE/MOON) it makes since why LOONA 1/3 were running so much. ViVi continues to run, hoping to get to her final destination.

HaSeul & YeoJin: in LOONA’s story, YeoJin was seemingly lost in the “woods” which prevented her from debuting with LOONA 1/3. This mv shows that she is no longer lost and HaSeul once again leads her. Its symbolic that the two are out in the open grasslands, showing that they are out of the woods/darkness and into the open world, looking ahead. 

Chuu & Go Won: also come out of the woods after they leave Eden. This most likely takes place around ‘Love4eva’ and after the bracelet making events that were revealed at a Cinema Theory Event (number 5 in link). 

JinSoul: is most likely coming out of the garage that ‘Egoist’ was filled in (she was also recorded in the garage, but the scenes did not make the final cut). After connecting with Olivia, she is ready to move on to meet the rest of the girls. 

Kim Lip & Choerry, including HyunJin: these two originally seen together, after JinSoul went to go meet Olivia, go there separate ways to find the other members. In the entire group, OEC seems to be the most connected and involved in trying to find their counterparts. Kim Lip runs and finds HeeJin, though HeeJin does not reunite with her. Choerry also meets HyunJin. Choerry and HyunJin share a special connection, and as opposites of the color wheel (yellow and purple), they unite.

Olivia Hye: gets to interact with most of the members ,but what’s different is that rather than being annoyed, OEC sweetly approach her. However, Olivia is still traumatized by being abandoned by yyxy, especially Yves, so she runs away. She stands over an empty pool. 

Yves: after leaving Eden, Yves is with most of the girls of yyxy except Olivia. After sensing that the girls of LOONA are beginning to unite, she looks for Olivia. Instead of looking at Olivia with disgust or hate, as Olivia would imagine, she smiles up to her, welcoming her to the group. Once Olivia takes the jump, abandoning her hate and fear, yyxy are together again and ready to meet the rest of the girls. 

HeeJin: - as the first girl of LOONA, HeeJin’s journey is a little bit different. After seeing Olivia in ‘Egoist’ she continues journeying across the world. Rather than looking for the other members, she seems more like a spectator, observing the other girls come together after putting things into motion. Once she sees that all of the girls realize who they are and who they are meant to be apart of, she is the first one to make the first successful jump towards the LOONAVERSE. 

Moving Past the Past

The most prominent symbolism in the mv is how the girls of LOONA are moving past what made them unique to their units. ViVi, now a human, no longer has her pink hair and thoroughly enjoys her life, smiling while running. Kim Lip, and most likely the other members of OEC no longer rely on their odd eyes. Kim Lip physically and literally runs past her red color, showing her moving beyond OEC and to something greater. In the choreography of ‘Hi High’ Go Won places her “crown” onto ViVi whose the least human, and therefore the least royal. These girls are moving past what made them unique in their units and onto something better. The entire story of this mv is how LOONA is moving to bigger, better, higher places. The units and solos introduced us to them, but the group is the real treasure.
