My bridal shower was perfect and I can't wait to show you pictures of my very own 1950s prom. I love Ray so much. I'm marrying him in 41 days and I'm so happy. Nothing else matters.

We are real humans, real people and we are messy and mistake making and I don’t want to clean that up. I want every part of you; the part of you that is laughing and smiling and at peace and the part of you that is angry and afraid and unshaven and asleep on the couch and questioning. How could you even claim to know someone without these things? Pretty as a picture and hiding all their heart. I vow not to expect perfection, and to go to Christ to fill me so I can spill over into you. I know you’ll do the same. I will not empty you, I will not expect inhuman art like anything, but messy abstract--paintbrushes strewn on the table and splashes of water and first and fourth attempts crumpled up in a pile before we quit to watch netflix and hold each other. 

You are a soldier. You have a God who loves you and is on your side. His grace makes life unfair in the best way. Be thankful for every little thing, for His showering over you. Thankfulness brings joy. Remembering Christ brings joy. Even in chaos you should grow roses, make art, make beautiful things out of this. Never forget the books and writing and God inspired lifelines that got you through all the times before. Magic.
