(This is a tribute to Caleb, who passed away in November 2015. We interviewed his sister, Jordan Longtin and his best friend Emma Windsor)
What was it like at your first experience at a Bassnectar show with Caleb?
Emma: “My first show with Caleb was the first NYE360 in Nash and it was amazing, I remember prior to that, Caleb had only seen nectar once and wasn’t nearly as about it as me or his sister Jordan but after 360 that year he was, as we would say a "bass head” hahah he just had such a good time ill never forget after that he came to every show and was always with me and Jordan. He met some of his very best friends cause of Bassnectar and I think us making him go to 360 was something that totally changed his life for the better.“
Jordan: I was with Caleb for his first Bassnectar show. It was Lollapalooza 2012 in Chicago. Starting in 2010, we took a yearly family vacation to Chicago for Lollapalooza, which was a pretty badass vacation for a few southern high school kids. Now that I’m thinking about it, I think it’s pretty crazy that the first and last Bassnectar shows Caleb and I went to together, as well as his first and last Bassnectar shows were at Lollapalooza. 2012 being his first, and last being in 2015.
Caleb and I were always tight from his birth, especially because we were only 17 months apart, but being able to share something as special and meaningful as going to Bassnectar shows together and forming friendships with people all over the country created a very important and inseparable bond between us.
And then what Emma said, being able to go to NYE together that same year was special.I’m so thankful that Bassnectar was something that Caleb, Emma and myself were able to experience together on many occasions.
Tell us about your favorite Bassnectar memory that you shared with Caleb.
Jordan: My favorite Bassnectar memory with Caleb… It’s tough to name just one so I’ll share a few! I think one of the most special runs was Fall Tour in St. Louis in 2013. This is when Caleb, Emma and I were really separated for the first time with different living situations. I was living in Chicago, Emma in Denver and Caleb in Clemson, SC. We all met up together in St. Louis and of course things got extremely rowdy being in St. Louis with your best friends and Lorin did throw down some intimate sets at the Pageant. Another one of my favorite memories was when Caleb and I both met Lorin together at the Charleston, SC show in Fall 2013 (Emma was there too). We all found the sriracha hot sauce packets and were able to meet Lorin before the show. Lorin thought it was awesome that we went to his shows together. I remember him saying something along the lines of "So you guys are like a Krewella kind of thing, but boy and girl” hahaha.
Emma: As far as favorite Bassnectar memory, there are really too many to count or name as per show because we always got into some shenanigans but a big one for me personally would just be that me and Jordan and Caleb went to high school together, and of course we were close and best friends but honestly Bassnectar brought us closer together, it made us a family, it brought us to parts of the country together that we never thought we would go, it brought us to a group of friends who we now consider to be some of our closest friends and family (people who when Caleb passed, came from all over the country just to be there for him and us), most importantly Bassnectar and this community gave me some of the best years of my life with my best friends in the whole world and I’ll never get over that. Bassnectar show memories, too many to tell and talk about, but the biggest memory and the most important I think is the impact this community made on mine, Jordan, and Caleb’s lives and how it truly is something we will always be thankful for.

In your eyes, ears, and heart, what Bassnectar song best captures Caleb’s personality?
We agree that Timestretch is the first Bassnectar song that Caleb really loved, and then Hologram after it came out was a game changer for him
What were some of his hobbies and interests?
Music, especially live music was Caleb’s biggest love and passion, with political and societal change being his next biggest passion, Caleb had a way of understanding the world that not many people understand it and he was always so down to discuss the important stuff and make change and speak out against wrong doing, being outdoors and exploring the world was important to him because he cared for this earth a lot and just like me and his sister, had a passion for seeing as much of it as possible. Lastly Caleb was a damn good friend and I mean that seriously, he went out of his way to stay connected to our friends and visit them and love them and just genuinely care for them so much, he loved the community of people we have and they loved/still love him back
How would Caleb have wanted us to remember him?
Caleb would you want to remember him as someone who lived life to the fullest, who truly did not fear the unknown and didn’t care about what people thought about him, what he wanted was to do what made him happy and do stuff he actually cared about. He didn’t do stuff because it was popular or what everyone else was doing, he did things for him and lived for himself and for his friends and for his passions and his family. Caleb was never someone who regretted life, he lived life to the fullest and thats something I know me and Jordan are very thankful for, that Caleb always lived as much as he could, which is saying more then most people who live there lives asking “why” where as the question should be “why not” and thats how Caleb lived, doing what made him and his people happy.
