Anyways, my opinions on most of Boombox’s skins were unimportant, but my Eggsquersde rant was singlehandedly what made that ask so long, and it was very important to me, so. HERE’S EGGBOX ONLY !!!

This post will not be objective. I WILL have opinions and you WILL deal with it.

Eggsquerade is a strange strange skin to me. Boombox is depicted in bright yellow, with feathers and a bird-like masquerade mask, and shoes and a hat implying he is freshly hatched.

Among the fandom, or maybe just in the throes of my subconscious, he’s seems like a rich millionaire type, the kind of person Pwnatious would be friends with. Despite this, I’ve never thought of Eggbox as particularly irredeemable. Pwnatious exploits and despises the poor pretty explicitly, they are PRISSY, that is a big part of their character.

Eggbox, to me, radiates an air of newness, of immaturity. The type of inphernal born into wealth, extremely insensitive of world issues, but only because he literally wasn’t allowed to learn. He’s horrifically out of touch— (when asked about the starving children in the slums of Craterdust, “There are children starving? But why don’t they just ask their parents for food??”)— but only because he is, as the skin suggests, newly-hatched, barely out of newspawnhood. He’s wet-on-the-nose.

He’s also very Gatsby to me. I think that’s extremely important for my understanding of him. He wants real connection, but he doesn’t understand what that feels like, because he has NEVER had it. He has not felt love, not in a platonic sense, laughing with a friend on a summer day, never in a sensual sense, feeling someone’s arms wrap around him gently, never in a romantic sense, having someone to cherish and admire him. He is so alone. A lost little duckling with no mother to turn to, pretending in his loneliness to fit in with swans.

I never thought about the whole "just outta the egg" thing before but oouuu that's so fun to think about. As you pointed out, a lot of the fandom (myself heavily included I fear I might've influenced it personally) head cannons her as a rich and pompous asshole, it does mostly come from her dialogue when she was previously an npc in Crossroads when you talked to her. She complained about the terrible service and how her food wasn't cooked the way she wanted it, demanding "50k bux in exchange for my terrible service" (which is how you bought the skin), and if you didn't have enough it was something along the lines of "I will not take anything that isn't up to par with my standards." So yeah, bit of an ass.

I entirely agree that she isn't on Pwnatious' level of entitlement though. While absolutely ignorant, it's most likely out of being sheltered and not actually aware of the problems across the inpherno. I love to picture the fact that she was a version of Boombox who stayed in Splintered Skies, meaning it kept her even more sheltered than if she had been spawned anywhere else. It's why she's so entitled because she was accepted, she was nothing but an inphernal showered with love and it's really interesting to think about how different she could be from canonical Boombox.
