I do not think it means what you think it means

Sept. 23, 2014 teacher’s note: “Parker has been having a hard time focusing in math group.  Today he was a zombie and answered ‘brains’ for his answers.  He is not accessing the instruction.”  My note back: “Parker was not allowed to watch, read or play Plants v. Zombies tonight.”   

Sept. 30, 2014 teacher’s note: “Parker is still having a hard time focusing in group.  He is missing instruction.  Today he explained that he has too many imaginary friends taking up his mind space.”  

To be the B could not be easy. Your attention is on imaginary friends taking up your mind space.

Little things are big. You go crazy when the world doesn’t go according to plan.

How to be a friend is an enigma. You don’t see social cues or know what to do if you did.

Yet love is easy for you. You are the most compassionate person I’ve ever known.

The sad news about you, did you hear?

The absurdity of the question still rings in my ear.

How and why, she didn't say.

I knew when she said your family was away.

You tried to tell me, last time you rang.

You said your favorite thing to do was hang.

I cut you off, then they cut you down.

I think of your humor

I think of your voice

I think of the way you could make me feel.

Then it creeps in

The last moments

Did you know it was happening when it went wrong?

I'm still so angry

I'm still so sad

And I'm nothing compared to the others you left.

Your favorite thing

That's what you said

So late, can't park, yelling at no one

Heart pounding, head screaming, running to you

Standing calm, holding two cups

Leaving it alone has never been easy.

Try this, try that, just get it done.

But unfair to take what I cannot give.
