I do genuinely think monogamy is patriarchal and I am not afraid to say it lol. This used to be a basic anarchist position not even 100 years ago. Emma Goldman was talking about free love and contraceptives alongside destroying the state. People should do what works for them in their own relationships and not feel pressure to accept things, but let's not lose sight of the fact that monogamy is patriarchal and controlling and mainly hurts women.
I don't see how the alternatives are any less patriarchal. Non-monogamy, to me, feels more similar to a harem or concubine. I just don't know if giving men potentially unlimited access to emotional labor, sex, and romance from women without commitment is helpful to anyone. Maybe this works for same sex couples, tbf.
I've also yet to see a sizable amount of 40+ year olds boast of unions like this. Of course, when everyone's young, hot, and full of energy, partnerships like this can be sustained. I don't believe there's longevity however.
