And thatās the most frustrating thing about depression. It isnāt always something you can fight back against with hope. It isnāt even something ā itās nothing. And you canāt combat nothing. You canāt fill it up. You canāt cover it. Itās just there, pulling the meaning out of everything. That being the case, all the hopeful, proactive solutions start to sound completely insane in contrast to the scope of the problem. It would be like having a bunch of dead fish, but no one around you will acknowledge that the fish are dead. Instead, they offer to help you look for the fish or try to help you figure out why they disappeared. (x)
This is actually a really good way to explain it, I think.
I WILL NEVER NOT REBLOG THIS
Iāve seen this reblogged without the original caption before and boy was i confused
Wait, this version of the post misses out what I think is the most important bit of the paragraph āThe problem might not even have a solution. But you arenāt necessarily looking for solutions. Youāre maybe just looking for someone to say āsorry about how dead your fish areā or āwow, those are super dead. I still like you, though.āā

Since realizing this, Iāve started asking friends who are upset, ādo you want a solution or do you just need to vent?ā Because those are two very different things.
Yes, asking someone if they want advice or sympathy/commiseration is a habit Iām really trying to get into! Generally Iām not so bad, but I still slip up
