authorās note: checking two things off my list - soulmate!au & multishot fic :ā) iām trying something new, so to whoever that does click in to read this fic, thank you, with my whole entire heart
āI am your soulmate,ā you say, putting on your best smile. Hendery eyes you up and down, but places his clarification marker in your hand anyway. You purse your lips, throwing a subtle fist in the air in small celebration for having completed the first step. Only two more steps to go, and youād have this guy falling to his knees at your feet. You lead the way towards an empty clarification wall, away from the rest of the crowd in the cafĆ©. Hendery is more alert and pays more attention to detail compared to the past few targets youāve dealt with, so youāre being extra careful with your every move. One mistake and heād catch on to you.
āAre you ready?ā you ask, turning to face Hendery. He raises a brow, shrugging in response. āI still donāt get how you identified me,ā he mumbles, shoving his hands into his pockets. āIf your writings turn gold, youāre a legend.ā You giggle at his statement, feeling the goosebumps forming on the surface of your skin. What youāre doing isnāt morally right, but it is your means of survival.
āTrust me, Iām honestly not sure how this is going to turn out, but when I identified the stone on your ring,ā you move your right hand to your back pocket, careful as you maintain eye contact with the boy, gesturing with your chin towards the ring on his middle finger, āI knew you were the one.ā You bring your left hand up to his eye level, spreading your fingers to bring attention to the matching stone that sits on the ring on your middle finger. While his attention is on the ring, just as you intended, you slide his clarification marker in your back pocket, pulling out the scam marker. Step two is now complete.
āIām going to do it,ā you say, uncapping the scam marker, that a pure like Hendery will never be able to tell apart from an actual clarification marker. He watches as you bring the tip of the marker to the wall ā you begin to scribble down some random words, capping the marker as you appear to be staring with anticipation for the result. As though on cue, within the span of exactly eight seconds, the semi-dried ink turns gold, the sign that the writer and the owner of the marker, are soulmates.
āDude, what the heck?ā Hendery exclaims, dimple forming on his left cheek. He lifts up both hands for a high-five, to which you gladly oblige. Step three, complete!
āYo, I found my soulmate!ā he boasts, calling out to his group of friends. You place your hand over your chest, where your actual stone sits ā as the pendant of the necklace you always wear, hidden under your shirt. At least, itās another pure taken off the market.
You smile at Henderyās group of friends that crowds around the two of you, playing along with their little celebration.
After all, youāll never have to see any one of them again.
