i know this is my hyperfix blog, but i am incredibly passionate about colorguard and seeing something like this hurts. their school wants to end the colorguard program after this winterguard season (which would be march or april of 2024). here is the link to the petition to keep the program!!

and you’re holding a metal instrument

that weighs more the longer you hold it

and it starts pouring down hail as you march

and no one can hear you play

but you do the motions

and you play your song

and half the people have taken off their glasses

so they can see better

and as you finish

the crowd stANDS UP

AND YOU HEAR THE APPLAUSE

and for the rest of your life,

do you ever think

“That was hard. I hated it.

I spent months practicing in the cold.

I had to go the next day to march again.

it gives us hail and soaking wet clothes.”

No, you never think that.

We spent months practicing.

We all hurt so bad after our sessions.

We knew we would march the next day.

And we proved our heckin’ standards,

our kickbutt resolve,

when the sun disappeared for our turn,

and the clouds rushed in,

and we got hailed on.

But we didn’t stop.

And it was worth it. I loved it.
