Ohh m' loife.

When I'm prepping a game, particularly a one off, it can be pretty difficult to start; there's so much choice.

Recently I ran a game where we randomly rolled for everything. Stats in order, class, race, background, items, spells. As the DM I rolled the session up. I got a city famous for its Gold Mines but was facing destitution and famine. The villain was committing Highway Robbery in an attempt to get a new body to achieve immortality. I rolled for a twist and for random NPCs.

At this point it was easy to make a session, I didn't have to make choices. I only had to figure out how it all related:

The villain was stealing all the city's gold shipments to forge a new, immortal, body out of gold which was causing the town to be unable to trade for all the imports they needed.

My players said afterwards if they didn't know I had rolled for everything they would have had no idea. It felt like a completely coherent and realistic D&D game.

I'm obsessed, lately, with putting this shop in one of my D&D towns.

You walk in and a legit Pit Fiend is sitting behind a desk, wearing robes and reading glasses.

- "Good Morning, what can we help you with today?"

- "Our standard terms and conditions involve you signing your soul over to us, upon your death you will rise in the Nine Hells as a Lemure and be used in the Blood Wars as fodder. Sacrificing yourself in the defence of the Nine Hells and the rest of the multiverse."

- "This may mean oblivion for you, we are not aware of any after after life."

- "It's possible you will rise in the Nine Hells as a Lessor Devil if you achieve high levels of power in life, Lessor Devils are not used as fodder."

- "Now I won't sign you up to any deal today. We have a policy against spontaneous contracts." *Points to a sign on the wall behind him*

Me: "Yeah I'm really excited to see what happens, I don't know what to expect."

Neighbour: *starts dropping sports jargon*

Awful Good: A narrow minded and uptight buzzkill who forces two dimensional conformity on the group.
