Some of our first goals with the creation of this site surrounded obtaining donations for women focused events and mentorship. We quickly realized the need for many more features as time went on and more conversations with local technologists occurred. All of our agile friends are probably cringing thinking about ‘adding new features’ to a 1.0 site roadmap but we don’t need to beat anyone to market here. We need to do this right and lay the foundation of success. If that meant adding another month to the project, then so be it.

This site’s mission is to provide a centralized location for women in Baltimore, who love tech as much as we do, a place to find resources, mentors, events, and guidance. There are already many local (and applicable regional/national) efforts, as you’ll see throughout the site, that aim to empower women and girls to go into/continue within STEM fields. Their efforts need to be collectively highlighted and grown like that of our sisters with DCFemTech, a main draw of inspiration for us. Localized grassroots mobilization is needed and necessary to touch this complicated issue - there are far too many successful activism stories that had its framework built on it.

The women that worked on this site did so for pennies, asked for nothing, and did so on their own time because the need is so high. Their dedication to this mission is a testament to the strong women in this industry and academia who deserve equal pay and equal opportunities.
