how do you remember long sequences that ur taught? how many time do u practise and how? sorry for so many questions, thanks! x
Pay close attention the first time, mark it as full out as you can, and ask to see it again if you need to. Learning long combinations is a skill just as much as is anything else that happens in the studio.
I know I am a good dancer, a lot of people in my group tell me I am, but I always get put near the back by my teacher, and it is always the same, older girls who get put up the front. I really want a chance to shine and to prove what I can do, but I never get the chance. I always try my hardest in class. Please help!
Seniority is a real thing. Your time will come with age. Keep working hard and don't be discouraged.

I wanna see how many dancers there are on tumblr!
REBLOG IF YOU’RE A DANCER- BALLET, TAP, JAZZ, HIP HOP, CONTEMPORARY, LYRICAL, ACRO, IRISH, STEP, ANY KIND OF DANCER! :)
i really want to try cheerleading and i do ballett so i'm flexible but how can i learn the aerials, backsprings etc?
I don't know much about that, but I definitely think you should find a teacher to help you learn. Whether it be someone currently on the cheer squad, or an outside teacher, do your research and find someone!
I want to start dance but I'm 13 and only good at acro. What should I do?
If you want to, go for it!
Please help! I just asked my parents to start dance classes and I'm a new kid and barely know anything about dance. What should I do?!?!?
No pressure to know everything your first day! Don't fret; you'll learn in time. Relax and keep working! You'll get the hang out it sooner than you think!
So I am currently 14 and I used to be a dancer for about 6 years, did it for one year with 2 friends in 2010 and when I was 3-8 (2002-2007) at a better studio. I'm just wondering would I be able to join up again when it's rego time since now I currently have this obsession with dance like becoming flexible (which I'm not far off my splits). But the main thing is that I also have been playing netball for the past 5 years and if I leave the team, it would be bad. Would I be able to start dance?
Do your research. If your schedule can fit dance classes on top of playing netball and you have interest, go for it. If it's not possible to do both, make a choice. Either is fine, you just have to do your research, see what's possible and decide what you want to do!

Tonight is my last dance recital. I was forced to pick either my studio or. HS dance team. My friend said that the team made her improve much more than studio & we will do more performances& practices w/ the team than at the studio I am just having really hard time leaving my studio I can always go back in a year but then I no dance team I am feeling upset about leaving my studio i wanted to tell someone who isn't going to tell me they are the same thing because dance team and studios are not.
They're not the same, but unfortunately, choices are a part of life. And sometimes they're hard, but you just have to go with what feels right to you. If it's being on the dance team with your friend, that's okay. If you feel differently from your friend and want to stay at your studio, that's okay too. But you have to decide which fits you better, and choose that. Life's full of tough choices, and it'd be great if we could do it all. But no matter what your choose, as long as you're doing what you love, it'll all be okay!
Hi, I'm attending a dance camp this summer, and its a pre professional program. Only, I'm not flexible even though i commit to stretching, and my develope's can only reach to a 90 degree level. I don't want to make myself look bad during camp!! Any tips??
Camp is for improving- no need to be embarrassed by your faults. No one is going to be perfect; that's why it's a pre-professional program. Just keep stretching every day (and make sure you're really pushing yourself in the stretch and not simply holding it where it's comfortable)! And if you want to get higher extension in your developpe, aim each day to get your leg 1 inch higher than the previous. Just one inch each day, and soon, you'll be kicking your face! But remember that summer dance programs are designed to help you improve! Never be embarrassed by your faults; just strive to improve!
So I went through all of your posts and loved them all but the thing is I'm not a dancer. I really want to start and at my local studio there is a beginner ballet class for teens but I do acting classes and go to a private school so it's a but pricey. How can I get my parents to see that I want to quit acting and start dancing??? Please help
Talk to them. It can be as simple as that. Tell them that your interests are shifting and you'd like to try something new. But I think that the direct route is your best option: just talk to them!
I go to a performing arts school and I decided to pick acting this year as a main because they were only running contemporary not ballet. I still do dance at school, just not as a main but no one is taking me seriously! The students who picked dance as a main think I'm a 'poser' and the teachers just don't care and don't think I'm serious enough to take dance next year. How can I prove that I am good enough and serious enough?
In terms of your peers, actions speak louder than words. Take as many dance classes as you can without it being your main, and take the classes seriously. Show that you're a good dancer. Don't try to plea with ythem to prove your talent. Demonstrate it to them. Show up to the studio early to warm up, stay after to work on your corrections. If it wouldn't be weird, I'd also recommend talking to your teachers one-on-one about your dilemma and explaining to them the reasons behind your decision, emphasizing that you're still serious about dance. If you're upfront about your intentions and begin this conversation, you might also learn a bit about their perspective on the subject. Furthermore, being transparent about this can help clarify things so that you can get the best possible education.
to the anon with the issue of dance/science career, i know someone who is an amazing dancer, but has a brilliant mind and also wants to be a doctor... she decided to pursue dancing first because our bodies do not last forever! we can only dance professionally for so long, our minds however last much longer! good luck in your endeavours!
=)

So my Achilles is too short or too long but anyways, I have a really hard time plieing deeply so it's hard to turn or grande plie or do much really cause plies are so essential. Can I fix this?
You can try to stretch them out. Each day aim to plie 1 cm deeper than the previous. But also know that different bodies have different flexibility, and some people just have short Achilles, so the best thing you can do is figure out what other adjustments you can make in your body to accommodate this. Just keep exploring your limits and you'll figure it out!
I've been dancing since I was 4. I my strong point is tap since I've been taking it for 7 years starting this fall. I also do jazz and ballet but I'm not the strongest at them. For company we have to do summer classes and the one teacher really only teaches jazz and lyrical so when we have those classes she teaches them. Since I'm not too much of a jazz or lyrical dancer she always acts like I'm new to dance. I always try my hardest but it doesn't really show. Any advice?
If it's not your strong suit then take advantage of being able to take classes in it! Work your absolute hardest. It's definitely frustrating when a teacher talks down to you, but take advantage of the fact that she's paying attention to you. Open up the lines of communication between you and your teacher. Stay after class 5 or 10 minutes working; your teacher will notice and maybe give you some tips. And if she doesn't, just approach her and ask her to break something down for you. It's annoying to be treated like a beginner, but there's nothing wrong with it. Use it as a chance to really clarify your technique. Stay positive, and remember why you're there: to become a better dancer. If you remember that goal, and go into each class thinking "today, I will dance better than I did yesterday," you'll start to see improvements.
