𝙸𝚝'𝚜 𝚋𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚊 𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚒𝚙𝚜. Kate gathers up the few dollars, places her guitar in its battered case, and slings it over her shoulder. “Guess I’m headin’ home. G’night, boss.”
He doesn’t even spare her a second glance. She stares down at the glass in his hand, squeaky clean, throwing her reflection back at her all topsy turvy like a fun house mirror.
“Hey… Whaddya say to a lil’ bit of a nightcap before I do? Got the cash for it ‘n everything.”
Her relationship with Bael might be strained to say the least, but anything beats being alone in a cruddy one room apartment.
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 that comes with their constant push-and-pull relationship. keeping her on edge was key to profiting off her little set up, coaxing her closer to the edge so bael would be the only thing left for her to grab onto. it was fool proof, truly. so when she finishes for the evening, packing away her things as she does bael pays her no mind instead fixating on his own nightly duties. something about creating that 𝑨𝑾𝑲𝑾𝑨𝑹𝑫 𝑨𝑻𝑴𝑶𝑺𝑷𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑬 of her lingering question was fun for him. maybe it’s the way she holds her glass while she waits patiently or the offer to pay for something so minute as a tap refill. either way, it tugs a grin onto his face.
❝ 𝑴𝒀 𝑺𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑻, 𝑳𝑰𝑻𝑻𝑳𝑬 𝑺𝑶𝑵𝑮𝑩𝑰𝑹𝑫 ~ ❞ bael coos, tossing aside all previous evidence of his chores, ❝ have a seat! you’ve done so well today, how about i treat you tonight? ❞ his smile is kind though the mischievous glimmer in his eye aims to expose his plans sooner than anticipated. ❝ drink as much as you’d like - it’s on the house! you don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow, right? then it’ll be fine, more time with your 𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐒𝐒. ❞ a palm extends over the counter, inviting her glass to rest in his possession. ❝ what would you fancy? ❞
