Baeg Starcraft

Well it might be the end of my starcraft days.  That was short lived huh? My computer cannot handle the game on the lowest resolution with the lowest settings and with every other application closed.  I even have a program that closes applications like flash in order to free up more cpu.  But to no avail.  I simply cannot play starcraft.

How bad is it? Well imagine you click for a unit to attack something, and then half a second later he might attack it. Then again he might not.  You have no idea.  You lay down three forcefields.  In two seconds, two of them show up.  Its like playing in slow motion while others play at regular speed.

It looks like it could be fun.  But I guess there is no reason not to right? Worst thing happens, I get kicked out first round! Any thoughts?

I am making some changes to my style now.  They have not yet fully formed so I have begun to lose all over again.  Its better in the long run to make these changes in order to prepare myself for better players down the line, but its really messing me up right now.  I'm trying really hard.

I won a custom game like it was no problem against my friend Isaiah.  Then my friend in Masters league started helping me out and I can't do anything now.  Not because he gave me bad advice, but because I am so bad at actually playing well.  I try really hard but have failed so much today.  I guess that is part of growing.  I am trying to learn from my mistakes.  I think with more practice tomorrow I will be able to really make some progress.

Back in my broodwar days(middleschool), every match I played was on fastest possible.  I couldn't wrap my head around having to make another base to get more minerals.  I didn't know anything about timing or army composition and so massing some powerful unit made the most sense to me.  When I got starcraft 2 I decided that I was much too old for fastest possible map.  It was fun when I was little but I moved beyond it.

I've been working quite hard on the ladders.  Today I decided to go check out fastest possible map.  I figured it would be funny to see how easy the game was when you get something like 300 minerals a second from one worker.  What I didn't count on was that terrible people play fastest possible map.

One important thing to know is that I am seldom mad.  All of my friends know this and talk about how seldom I get angry with people.  In fact I am probably the least confrontational person in my friend group.  Either way back to starcraft.

So we are waiting in the lobby for fastest possible map.  Somebody on the other team comments on how his team needs one more person for the game to start.  Not saying this as though he thought we didn't know, more like he was anxious for that fourth person to arrive already.  This guy on my team starts telling him how stupid he is for stating the obvious.  I say, "I think he was just saying he wants the person to arrive sooner."  This guy blows me off.  Whatever lets start the game.

Now I have no idea how fast I will be getting minerals and gas.  I obviously open with a pylon at 9.  When the pylon finishes I realize I have 1000 minerals.  So that was the first big adjustment.  So I tried to spend the money by making gateways.  This is when the guy on my team goes "hey someone scout that one guy".  I send a scout to an enemy location.  This same guy goes, "haha no the other guy".  He didn't even ping the map... Either way I tell him he should scout who he wants to scout.  He replies "What are you on your period?".  I guess this was the moment that I decided that I hate this guy and all future fastest possible map players(sorry).  I say, "Hey man leave me alone I'm just trying to figure out this fastest possible map thing."

"You've never played FPM? What a noob."

"Sorry I play the ladder.  I always thought that fastest possible map was for players new to the game."

"And yet you only have 4 gateways. What does that say about you?"

So now I become the angriest I have been in a long time.  My face turns red and I start sweating really hard.  I know he is trolling but its getting to me. Who the hell is this guy and why is he such a bitch?

After the match I am dying to see this guys profile.  Lo and behold he is a bronze leaguer who has played 2 games.  He isn't new to the game though because he has played 400 custom games.

Today was probably my worst day for starcraft in forever.  I won a few but I lost an incredible amount.  I kept doing stupid things and just couldn't stop myself.  Even protoss were beating me.  I would like to see the percentage of wins against each race.  I bet that zerg would be at the bottom and protoss would be at the top.  Whenever I played a zerg today, I tried something new and every single time it failed.  I must have been 6 pooled like 12 times.

I got promoted to silver league today.  Its too bad I wasn't recording or anything to share.  I guess my journey is that much shorter now.  If you ask me, though, it has been a long time coming! I've been playing and beating gold leaguers for a while now.

The game was rather fantastic.  I 4 gated against a zerg who was roach rushing.  I just amassed units in my base until they attacked.  Then it was over for them.  Left without a gg =).
