Blog 10 - Instagram Advertising / Create campaign to sell feautre
In 2014 Instagram incorporated brand advertising into the timelineâs of their users, making sure that the ads are not only relevant to the users that see it but also that they stick to the siteâs modern and âcoolâ image. Part of our task was to create a business aimed video advertising an element of a social media site to encourage businesses to use social media. We chose Instagram because a lot of small businesses use Instagram meaning that the new advertising component to the site would be perfect for these small businesses to use. They would be able to target their desired audience without having to follow thousands of users, which can take up a lot of time, in order to gain a customer following on their page.
To advertise the new advertising feature we came up with the idea of creating a stop-motion video as we felt that this would fit in with instagramâs cool and hipster-esque vibe and would also appeal to the edgy and niche small businesses that fit within it. The overall tone of the ad would be warm and friendly, something that would feel welcoming and would encourage the brands to think about using Instagram to advertise.
The video would be begin with a vertical row of Polaroid pictures on a wooden surface; the Polaroids symbolising the userâs timeline feed.  The polaroids will then be scrolled through by a female hand. After a few seconds of scrolling through the timeline a bigger polaroid will appear among the others which will represent the advert of the business. The image will be of a hand covered in different rings from a small, up-and-coming jewellery company. The hand will stop scrolling through the polaroids once the bigger polaroid is spotted. The hand will then touch one of the rings on the image which will simultaneously appear on the fingers. This happens again for two or more of the rings from the original polaroid until the hand is covered in rings. Once the rings are on the fingers the hand will pull out a polaroid with her fingers from outside of the frame and place it at the top of the timeline, implying that the girl took a photo of the items that she had bought and shared them with her followers on her timeline. We then see the polaroid get more and more likes, shown through the little red heart that everybody knows. This is repeated over and over again, with different hands popping in from around the video frame to click the rings, which once again appear on their hands also. This will represent how easy it is for people to share what they buy and how that will influence people to go to your store and buy the products from the sponsored advert.Â
