the degree to which social media has made people susceptible to conspiracy theories (especially young people, who make up a significant portion of fandom) will be studied in the future when future historians and sociologists try to understand the downfall of global society in the 21st century. stranger things isn't the first fandom to fall into this rabbit hole and it certainly won't be the last
