“Goodness!” One moment Aziraphale was gingerly carrying a new stack of books across the street, on the way to his store. The next, a car’s horn blared, no less than a few feet away from him. The angel thought he was to be roadkill for sure. Fortunately, he felt somebody tug him onto the pavement and away from anymore reckless drivers.

Every thousandth year or so it was as if God would toss a monkey wrench at the Earth, usually in the form of a great natural disaster or a war amongst humans. Humans were an amazing species, Aziraphale always thought. No matter what scrapes they would get in, or no matter what trouble was thrown their way they were somehow managed to bounce back. However, there where whispers of an oncoming prophecy. One that chilled Aziraphale right to the one. The angel was certain that no humans, plant, or animal would make it out of this one, considering the fact that they would be going against literal hellfire and the wrath of heaven.
