Chapter IV
Significance of Caliphate
It is not only the political view of Islam, but the fact that man is the representative of Allah is most important in the entire Islamic system of life. This concept has been given central importance in the discussion of Islamic political philosophy in previous chapters. This article contains an important discussion on the Khilafat. Here is the last part of the article. Maulana's article was published in the February 1935 issue of the Tarjmanul Qur'an. - Compiler
Significance of Caliphate
Quranic guidance
Now I will draw your attention to some directions of the Quran. From this, it will be known that the caliphate that has been given to humans is actually the caliphate of Allah.
The Qur'an says, Allah created man with the best structure:
He made him himself. [Surat al-Tin: 4]
He infused the spirit into him on his own behalf. [Surat al-Sawad: 75]
He enriched him with wealth-like knowledge. [Surah Sijda: 9]
He subjugated all things in the heavens and the earth. [Surah Al-Baqarah: 31]
When man was created with all these qualities, Allah ordered the angels to prostrate before him. [Surah Jasiya: 13]
The way this instruction is described in the last part of Surah Al-Sawad deserves special consideration:
"When your Lord said to the Fermat's, I am going to make people happy with earth. When it is fully made and I infuse it with Myself, then you prostrate before it. Then all the angels prostrated. But Iblis did not prostrate. He indulged in arrogance and became among the transgressors. God said, O Devil! What prevented you from prostrating whom I made with my own hands? Do you think yourself too big, or have you become something really big? He said I am better than him. You created me from fire and you created him from clay. Then Allah said: "Get out of here. Because you are damned.â [Surat al-Sawad: 71-77]
From these verses, it can be understood that the reason why the man was commanded to prostrate was that God had created him with His own hands, that is, he was the ultimate symbol of God's infinite power and craftsmanship. And He infused into him a wonderful spirit from His own side and created in him in a limited degree those qualities which are found in the highest degree in God Himself. After creating man with such dignity and qualities, it was announced that I am going to appoint him as Caliph on Earth. This matter is described in the fourth bow of Surah Baqarah. When the angels expressed their doubts about this, Allah showed them the best characteristics of human knowledge. Thus, after proving the qualification of man for the caliphate, the angels were commanded to accept his caliphate and prostrate to him as a sign of acceptance. All the angels accepted and prostrated. But Satan rejected his caliphate and was expelled from the court.
