Attacks/revenge I did for Art Fight! It was my first time so all of these are my friends' characters. I had a lot of fun, so I hope to do this again next year! ^^

Something about the fact that 2d characters in Gumball are considered to be a minority in Elmore is so interesting to me like what's the lore behind it LOL
If your system doesn't account for the fact that Parents Are Going To Be Abusive/Neglectful/Insufficient then it objectively sucks I'm sorry I don't make the rules
Monitored bank accounts for those under 18. Requiring parental consent for medical procedures. Parental controls on personal devices. "We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u
I feel like the people who have these maximalist positions on the emancipation of children have never like...met one. "A child should be able to emancipate themselves from their parents instantaneously and irrevocably at any time for any or no reason" So you DO then understand that every child ever born would end up in foster care at around the age of 3 when their parents insisted that they...
Get a flu shot
Brush their teeth
Wear shoes before going outside
Not run directly into the path of an oncoming truck.
Learn ANY subject that is not directly relevant to their immediate interest. (Kids would not learn to read in order to learn about trucks or dinosaurs, especially not in the tiktok era. Goes triple for STEM subjects)
This most often comes from people whose "experience" with children maxes out at having BEEN one. And is directly countered by...ANYONE with education in childhood education, pedagogy, childcare or child welfare.
I am SORRY that you were abused by your parents, but the reason human beings even RAISE our children, evolutionary and socially speaking is because every. Single. Human child develops an ability to hurt themselves or others MUCH faster than they develop an ability to understand the consequences of their actions.
Now making emancipation of OLDER children and teenagers easier, making authorities and systems that are more likely to listen to evidence and reports coming from a child directly I full agree with. CPS is left toothless in the vast majority of situations when they really shouldn't be.
But going for the all or nothing position ignores one truth anyone who has ever been AROUND a child knows.
Children DO NOT know what is good for them and are ENTIRELY uninterested in listening to reason in ANY scenario.
Signed, an actual teacher.
The audacity to end this with "signed, an actual teacher" as if being in such a inherently oppressive role makes you more credible instead of less..

ever notice when you confide in someone about your parents shitty behavior it’s always:
“maybe they had good intentions!!”
yet when you share with them a positive experience you had with your parents the response is never:
“but what if they had bad intentions?”
they never admit that parents can have ulterior motives. they never admit that a parent might be intentionally causing their child harm. to view the situation outside of the confines of their optimism bias would dismantle the mysticism behind parenthood itself.
I saw this video about a doctor who performed an MRI on a 5 year old and discovered she essentially had “brain damage” from excessive iPad use, as the white matter in her brain couldn’t form properly due to an understimulated environment.
Hmm it’s almost like there’s supposed to be adult figures responsible for monitoring her screen time and making sure she develops properly… certainly this isn’t the result of neglect at the hands of her parents…
I'm gonna cut off the whole long-ass pointless thread I saw talking about the finer points of taking iPads from babies because here's the thing:
"a doctor did an MRI and found that a kid had brain damage from iPad use" is a lie. that's not how MRIs work. that's not how brain damage works. if you're arguing about whose responsibility it was to prevent this from happening, you are starting from a premise that is not just unproven, it's impossible. you might as well be talking about whose responsibility it was to make sure the moon didn't get made out of pudding.
WARNING against somnovalite (TW for s/h)
Hey just wanted to let everyone know to stay clear of the user @ somnovalite. This morning, they attempted to post extremely graphic self-harm artwork of Gumball and Rob uncensored in the tawog tag. Not only that, but there's lots of past history of this user (also known as @ chimerical--creations) being a known creep and proshipper, drawing artwork of adult/child relationships (such as Rob x Mr Small ewww) and incest. Block them, and report if you can.
ARTWORK MENTIONED DOWN BELOW. Censored for obvious reasons.
anon hater just accused me of (among other things) "encouraging kids to install malware on their parents' computers". I don't remember ever doing that but it sounded like a fun concept for a post so here are some ideas for things to install on your parents' computers!
a custom DNS resolver that blocks access to Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets
a keylogger to capture the admin password for your router so you can disable parental controls
a VPN or a virtual machine running the Tor browser to bypass access restrictions and age verification checks
your own "parental controls" browser extension, set up to send you notifications if your parents visit websites that indicate they might be spying on you (e.g. Life360)
a userscript that adds a fake virus warning popup to the donation pages of fascist political parties
have fun! make sure to do loads of reading and learn how things work so you can break them safely and effectively!
oh, and anon, my advice to you is never stab a man who collects knives
Disabled Daughter Kidnapped by Insane Mother in "Scare Tactic" about Online Safety
Crawford County Library Board member & censorship advocate Tammi Hamby arrested for kidnapping her disabled daughter to "teach her a lesson" about online safety
Crawford County Library Board member & censorship advocate Tammi Hamby arrested for kidnapping her disabled daughter to "teach her a lesson"
this is fucking awful, obviously, and I hope this parent gets the book thrown at her when it comes to sentencing.
but I am really struggling not to be amused by the fact that the kidnapping failed. the target of this unhinged plot escaped, got caught, escaped again, and called 911 for help. her mother and two accomplices did the whole thing to prove to her how vulnerable she was and instead she just kicked ass.

Important rules for the "age verification" era of the internet that we're living in:
1. Do not do age verification.
2. If you have to do age verification, cheat. Do not under any circumstances give them your real ID.
3. do anything you can to help others cheat, especially the young people targeted by these rules.
this is lowkey so random but it makes me irked when people are like 'and then she showers, seconds later coming out with a towel in his hands as he pats down his hair' about speedster because... you do realize that it takes time for water to fall, right?
its the same when people superspeed normal civilans bevause that, if for an extended period of time, would damage the civilians since the g-forces would tear them apart. kon obviously uses his ttk to shield civilians from it (or something like that-- I'm so scientist so don't quote me on this (you can correct me if I’m wrong though!)) but when it's barry or bart or wally, they dont have ttk to shield them with!
its mostly that water think though bc, just as it takes tim for a penny to fall from your hand to the floor, it takes time for water to fall from the shower head to the floor. They wouldn't be able to shower at superspeeds because they wouldn't actually be abke to get clean. They eould be abke to shower faster than average, yes, because they can lather soap on and scrub at their scalps faster, but water still needs to fall.
this can be demonstrated (in theory) by turning on a sink or shower head and running your hand/arm through it really fast-- there should (again, in theory) be a gap between the streams of water
Counterpoint: Speed Force
Still yet again thinking about how video games to Bart Allen are tools to calibrate speed. Despite the GAG in the comics that he plays them so fast he breaks them, video games do not behave like this. There is only so fast a video game can go no matter how quickly Bart pushes the buttons.
Bart can play them very well, his reflexes are quicker than the game itself, he thinks faster than a computer, but he cannot make a video game operate faster than it was programmed to go.
The video games in all actuality help Bart slow down and ground him to "normal speed".
Max doesn't understand this, and he never tries to learn this, and that is why it is so frustrating when he claims Bart's skills in games is just because he is fast and he actually doesn't have any talent. Poor Bart doesn't have the ability to defend himself properly from people determined to not understand him or how his powers work.
*Stares into the middle distance* Anyone ever think about how a lot of normal/encouraged parenting tactics are also textbook abuse? Like...
Tracking (phone tracking apps are getting increasingly popular for parents)
Controlling appearance
Stopping a child from spending time around friends (grounding, taking away communication with people outside of the house)
Making a teen ask before going anywhere
And more that I don't have the energy to write out
The reason these things are considered acceptable for parents and abusive for everyone else is because youth are second class citizens who don't have the right to self determination

Fucked up how young children are expected to be grateful to their parents for giving them basic human rights like food and shelter.
sorry if this comes off wrong, i just wanna better understand your argument/thoughts because i haven’t really heard this thought process before. can you elaborate on your thoughts on book banning and censorship? — 🪻

I wrote a longish post about my feelings some years ago here
but basically, I feel like a lot of adults are very self-congratulatory about being anti-book-ban in theory, without recognising that book bans almost always target youth specifically and that you have to engage with that reality if you're going to accomplish anything. an adult "reading a banned book" doesn't fucking mean anything because that book isn't banned for them.
my advice to any adult who wants to do real, practical resistance to book bans is to find out what books have been banned or challenged in your local schools and put up a Little Free Library in your front yard containing all of those books.
