Forgive me for a potentially very hot take I havenât been on here for 3-4 years or so. But imo if Tokyo Ghoul / Re: was written in 2022-2025 Shuuneki would have been more popular then Hidekane and I think it deserves to be. Tsukiyama is so obviously in love with Kaneki and doesnât understand how to put those feelings into words for a very long time or know how to process them. And by the time he does in many ways itâs already too late.
Not to mention thereâs tones of overlap and comparisons to Rizes relationship with Kaneki and Tsukiyamas relationship with Kaneki.
(All of kanekis love interests have the same color pallet, Touka, Rize, presumably Tsukiyama.)
Rize Eats however she wants whoever she wants and âdiesâ as a result of eating Kaneki
Tsukiyama is very particular about who he eats and when Kaneki âdiesâ loses his mind and becomes a binge eater, slowly dying until he finds out Kaneki is alive and lives.
I love both Hide and Touka but to me they are Kanekis anchors to the world, which is VERY important. But what is also important is Kaneki being an anchor to someone, someone who needs him in the same way he needs others.
Iâm not mad they didnât get together in the manga. But I do think Kaneki and Tsukiyamaâs relationship is something that never really gets explored enough and is really essential to the plot of Tokyo Ghoul and the development of Kaneki as a person.
