Awkward Things Reed Employees Say

Student: "On Thursday morning."

Staff: "You are dead to me."

I don't normally veer from the regular awkward programming here but I think this effort is especially important. People (students, staff, faculty) at Reed are not always merely awkward. Sometime they say or do things that are just plain not okay and this impacts the climate for many folks at Reed. And, sometimes Reed is a magical and beautiful world that shines like the morning sun during an Oregon winter. Regardless of your experience at Reed you MUST take this survey. The results of this survey are 100% confidential and will have a real impact on the growth and future of campus. 

Professor: "Think of the thesis process as like being pregnant."

Me: "Uhm."

Professor: "Well, you and your advisor work together to form an idea that is in its infancy. And, through the process you both nurture it into gestation."

Me: "So, you're saying that I am carrying my thesis baby for the entirety of my senior year and that my advisor impregnated me?

Professor: "Well essentially yes. Although you both are responsible for its creation and growth. Basically your thesis baby will be born in May whether you like it or not. So take care of it or it may have some serious problems when you're through. Just like a real baby."

Me: "Uhm, what has lead you to believe this?"

Staff: "I'm not really sure, but I think it's happening."

Me: "Maybe you should get that checked out."

Us: "uhhhh..."

Staff: "I think these tacos have freshman fear sprinkled on top."

Me: "And what exactly does that taste like?"
