A sketch of a village in the mountains.
Some silhouette work and more robot sketches.Â
Some more mecha sketchwork. I’ve almost been sketching exlusively robot stuff lately, trying to figure out how certain things work in 3 dimensions. It’s pretty likely that I’ll end up modeling this stuff out soon too.Â
In a world of advanced technology and war machines, ejecting out of a robot with nothing but a parachute would pretty much delay your inevitable demise.
I think it *could* be a decent idea to have a cockpit that ejects as a high-speed bike for a zippy escape. The idea is that you’re probably going to have to be really good at high speed driving, as you’re going to be escaping with a considerable amount of speed (likely faster than a mech could run after you). Located on the back of the robot, armor protecting the cockpit opens briefly, and the bikepit(?) ejects at high velocity upwards and backwards, then uses the thrusters to turn around, land with stability and make their escape, with their robot’s blackbox and calibrations safe and ready to be placed into another mech. In the cockpit, there’s about enough space to move your arm controls around to aim or throw a punch, and to extend and retract your legs a bit, housed in a semi-circular chassis. The arm and leg controls allow for direct control of the robots movement. The controls only have to move slightly to make wide motions with the robot, so the cockpit doesn’t have to be a huge room for your to move in (albiet this requires a lot of training to use right, but we’re talking about piloting a giant war machine here). The seat and controls are held by 4 flexible joints within the cockpit, and helps absorb impact of movement and incoming fire. Using a hologram assisted VR helmet and neural link allows 1:1 head movement and target acquisition, as opposed to having screens that cover your field of view that requires more space in the cockpit. The robots head moves when the pilots does. I think about this stuff a lot haha....

Bit of a teaser ;) The title isn’t definite, but I like the ring to it in regards to the story. Really like idea of it being in a shaded black and white, but maybe color would be more interesting. What do you guys think? I’m excited to finish up the loose ends of the story, and get started on pages. I hope this cover excites you guys as much as it does me!
A few more sketches of a few ideas for weapon storage/utilization of the middle shoulder section as a space for using a stock to rest on, allowing more stability with one handed weapons.Â
Holy hell, this is probably the most difficult thing I've had to figure out a plausible underlying structure for: the legs. The thing with mechs is, in reality the best method for holding presumabley multiple tons of steel is with tank-esque treads, rather than two bipedal legs. Which is boring and sad when it comes to making mechs a possiblity. The larger and taller the creature, the larger and wider the feet would need to be as well, which would make something like Godzilla impossible, because his feet would have to be bigger than he is tall. I'm mixing a bit of science fiction and realism here, but the idea is that large scale artificial muscle structures are introduced to small pulses of electricity that conatrict and straighten the leg. Hydraulics help counterbalance when bending and help support the overall weight load. This is assuming that the muscle fibers are waaay better at load bearing than current day hydraulics. But I digress. Legs are hard.
Details of the top view and the bottom view of the chest. The armored core fanatic that I am makes it incredibly hard not to call it the core :x The underside is more interesting to me, because it shows the placement of pistons that are responsible for the upstairs l upper body and shoulder movement, as well as the battery cylinders. The armor placement will likely vary on this particular chassis, as well as a few different chassis throughout the story, but the pistons are basically in the same place.
More finalized design, showing the short nosed chest allowing space for weapons to be carried with two hands. As well as the back weapons hugged close to the back.

Messing around with different chest shapes, and the possible advantages/ramifications of part choices that characters make. For instance, having a stubbier chest chassis allowing room for the mech to hold a larger gun with two hands, or having a longer chest to hold auxillary weapons but cant out their arms in front of them, so they can only use one handed weapons. Stuff like that. I think I'm zeroing in on a general ideas of their shape!
Starting to get used to these legs. Really like the idea of placing thrusters on the lower back/butt. Butt boosters!
I'm having a considerable amount of difficulty wrapping my head around triple jointed legs, so I'm trying to study Titan falls ' leg structure, as well as animal leg anatomy.
Prosthetic limbs.
Fresh new sketchbook! The crew. From left to right, James, Tetsuya, Kenji, Elda.

Really love the idea of tiny houses. Like....really. I can’t stop thinking about it lol. This is my working design/blueprint of a tiny house I plan to build in the near future. I personally think that tiny houses are the house of the future; sustainable, low energy, efficient, and mobile. Ever since I played Mega Man Legends when I was much younger, I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of having a personal ship that has a home inside, that you can dock and land in different countries. I dream that one day when I’m older, I’ll be able to have a house like this that I can fly to wherever I want. Until then, I’ll settle for a tiny house. You should consider doing the same!
James. I have no idea why that’s his name (and why he’s retained it since 10 years ago), but i just can’t seem to find anything else that suits him more. Most of his attributes and attitude are heavily influenced by Full Metal Alchemist’s Scar and Eureka 7′s Holland. Wears a poncho, carries an inhumanly large suitcase, and seems to be able to defy gravity at times with blazing speed and power. He falls into the role of the mentor type, and eventually shares his secrets of power with the main characters. In other words, another long coated, large sword carrying badass trope, yes. But I have many plans to make him exceptionally interesting...
