Lestat wasnāt able to turn Nickie because he still saw his vampirism as a curse, but with Louis he finally saw it as a gift which is why he gave it to him. He loved them both deeply, just in different ways. His love for Nicki isnāt diminished by Louis and vice versa.
hate when people hate on season three for having so many changes, as if season one and two didnt have just as many. the beauty of the show is how much theyāve adapted it to make the characters more presentable(changing Louis from a slave owner to a brothel owner) and to make it more applicable to modern day. if itās acceptable to change Louis, itās just as acceptable to change Lestat.
Also people who hate on the show for them including sex, instead of desire just being through blood exchange, dont understand that part of the reason sex wasnāt included was being queer was heavily stigmatized. Anne Rice depicting queer people was already risk, depicting queer sex would only be riskier. You can dislike the sex scenes for your own personal promiscuous reasons, but that doesnāt make the change inherently bad.
I think the show also shows how despite their immortality, theyre still fallible to human desires. they were humans first and vampires second, thm still caving to those desires is so important. they can try and escape their humanity all they want, but it still clings to them. this is also why changes, such as including sexual desires, only adds to the story, not take away from it.
I used to be the BIGGEST Armand hater, but thereās something so pathetic and desperate about his character that has turned me into his biggest fan.
Armand has NEVER been the first choice. He tries so hard to change himself into his partnerās desires, but itās never been enough because everyone he pursues ends up using him as a coverup for their true desires(ex: Louis with Lestat). Armand even KNOWS heās the coverup, but he just accepts it. Heās so desperate for this idea of being love, of unconditional love, that he just allows it(cue that one line from perks of being a wallflower: you accept the love you think you deserve)
In some of the first ever Loumand romance scenes, Louis is ALWAYS thinking of Lestat and Armand knows this. Even in scenes where Louis says he loves Armand, he can still hear his thoughts flee back to Lestat. He knows heās not the one Louis truly wants, but he just stays anyways. He keeps changing himself because he still holds out hope that he, for who he is, will be chosen.
At the same time heās okay with the love heās accepting because he doesnāt even truly know what he wants for himself. Heās never been his own person; he just sees himself as an extension of his romantic partners in a sense. Heās spent half a millennium morphing himself into others desires and self sabotaging.
Louis lost so much control in his relationship with Lestat that he tries to overcompensate for it in his relationship with Armand- meaning he reverts back to his hypermasculine, pimp persona. Armand notices that Louis needs this illusion of control and he so desperately needs to feel wanted, protected, and loved that he reverts back to his subservient persona. They have such a complex dynamic because of this- which, for example, is why their āpetnamesā for each other consist of Armand calling Louis āmaitreā and Louis calling Armand āArunā (the name given to him at the brothel he was sold to). They both revert back to some of their worst moments with each other, making the toxicity of their relationship cyclical.
Armand has been a survivor for so long that even if he has to revert back to such a traumatic persona, Arun, heāll do it as long as he feels some form of live in response. When Louis first calls him āArunā you see him pause and then just give in, because heād throw away his issues with the name in order to appease Louis and be what he wants. Heās okay with pretending to be meek and malleable if it means he can earn Louisā affection.
All of this is to say that Armand has known nothing but self sabotage and despair, which is why daniel molloy is so perfect for him.
Daniel figures out who Armand is, bad and all. He lives Armand BECAUSE of it, NOT despite it. Theyāre toxic donāt get me wrong, but theyāre exactly what the other needs. They provide the love and understanding for each other that theyāve been craving from others.

Can we talk about how in the show Lestat and Armand are framed as narrative foils. Armand and Lestat who are both so aggressively theater kids, but Lestat who acts, who draws in the attention and holds it, and Armand who directs, who shapes and manipulates the narrative. Armand and Lestat's obsession with Louis and his love and frustration with his melancholy over Lestat and Claudia respectively. Who both felt second in his heart. Who fear loneliness above all else. Lestat taking what he wants to excess - no impulse control, and Armand letting things happen to him and trying to manipulate situations to get what he wants but never taking it. Armand, who even in the end, so much more powerful, never physically imposes himself on Louis. Armand who seeks complete control in subtle insidious ways. Lestat who seeks control in the physical. Armand and Lestat brought into vampire life in horrifying ways tangled up with SA. Armand who still talks about his maker with reverence, Lestat who hates his maker. Armand who pours all of himself into his partner, willing to shape himself into what they desire but ultimately needing control to feel safe. Lestat who pours all of his love into his partner but unwilling to change himself and ultimately cedes control in moments to maintain the relationship. Armand who clings to his breaking apart relationship for 77 YEARs, Lestat who let Louis go. Lestat and Armand who watch Claudia die, but one as a father and one as a murderer. Lestat and Armand so intense in their love but Lestat so painfully external and Armand so painfully internal as characters. Both constantly acting and putting on a face. Lestat as Mozart and Armand as Salieri (in the flashback scene!). Armand who loves routine and structure and repetion, Lestat who craves change and excitement. The calling cards are echos, who learned from who. Armand teaching Lestat the vampire gifts, Lestat teaching Armand a new way to live. on and on....
i dont think mike is oblivious that he likes will, but rather that he thinks will is straight. the confession was the avalanche, itās what makes everything start clicking into place for mike. mike, because of the town and his own dad, has had it drilled into him that queerness is bad which has only led to him developing severe internalized homophobia and suppressing his feelings. he sees will as anything BUT bad, which is why this idea of will being queer never clicked for him. his thought process about will being straight is only solidified by girls being interested in will AND him thinking that will reciprocates to some capacity(he dances with the girl at the snowball, el says heās making a painting for a girl he likes). the confession reverses ALL of this. the gears are going to start turning and everything is going to fall in place. thatās why he makes the shocked expression and perks up, because things are FINALLY clicking
along with this, i dont think the painting is going to be addressed through a conversation between the two but instead through revealing mikes pov and him unraveling the true meaning behind the painting if that makes sense. heāll either have a monologue OR a moment before the kiss happens(or other way of confirming byler) of recognition of his feelings. during this moment itāll flash back to byler moments but from mikeās pov.
