GOOD & EVIL
Final Project 5:
This is a combination of a music video and supercut!
GOOD & EVIL Artist Statement
Avery Jacobson Ā
My work is made to be eye-catching, interesting, and bizarre. My goal is to give my audience chills while looking at or listening to my piece. I strive to be bold and exciting with my pieces by references striking imageries and by bringing bright colors and unique shapes to life. Looking back through my portfolio and I realized I had the most fun exploring music and video. I decided for my last piece I would choose an exhilarating song to accompany the intense color and imagery from the television series Avatar the Last Airbender.

this is a combination of a music video and a supercut. I had so much fun with the audio and video I hope you enjoy!

Artist Statement 4
I wanted to display how I set up action figure photo shoots. From selecting a figure from my collection, to messing around with it, to getting the right lighting and angles, to a light spray for strong light shots. Additionally, showing off the final result of the photo shoot with color correction and edits. But this was mostly done to show one of my hobbies.
āPosiBodyTivityā
Artist Statement:Ā
For this performance piece I wanted to demonstrate the correlation between body image and the way others perceive you. Many people become discouraged from exercise because they are anxious over the way they think they look. People will want to paint a portrait of who you are when youāre just trying to improve yourself. If i had the space and resources i would have liked to smear myself over a large surface area; ie. white wall or large canvas. Never did anything like this before.Ā
CROSSING - PERFORMANCE ART PIECE
Artist Statement:
In devising this piece, I kept thinking about the concept of crossing over. I constantly hearĀ āRemember to look both ways!ā in the back of my mind every time I encounter a street crossing. I think itās a remnant from when I was a kid learning to ride a bike.Ā
Sometimes, even if you look both ways, something bad still happens. Sometimes, you wonāt look both ways and nothing will happen. Sometimes youāre on the sidewalk when your life changesā¦sometimes you find yourself in the middle for the street. All we can do is look both ways and hope for the best. I wanted to convey that tension in my slow deliberate head movements. I wanted to unsettle the viewer and make them uncomfortable with me in the middle of the street - poised as though Iām ready to spring into motion - but remaining absolutely still except for my change of focus.Ā Ā
In this piece, I am wearing the clothes I would normally wear running (when I cross many streets). The actual action of the piece was slightly longer than one minute, but this is the condensed version.Ā
Think the next time you areĀ ācrossingā.Ā

I was having a very hard time coming up with a good idea for this projectāluckily I had my roommate and boyfriend around to help me brainstorm. Ultimately, I decided on trying my hand in making a short comedy sketch featuring myself, my roommate and my cat! I had a lot of fun making this and felt more comfortable than I thought I would. I normally hate acting, hearing my own voice, and being on camera...but I was actually okay with getting it done! I think my want to make something enjoyable outweighed my camera-shyness. The editing was also fun to do! None of the original audio is includedāit was all added in post! I really hope the short is readable and maybe a little goofy, that was the vibe I was going for when I made it. Overall I had a lot of fun with this project, it brought me out of comfort zone but in a good way! Iām excited to possibly do performance art in the future.

This is a powerful piece and a great choice for this project. The slight vignette you added only adds to an emotional theme. Your choice to include only the sounds of the city was very effectiveāI feel like ant music would have ruined the brevity of the moment.

My piece is a video performance as I come home for the day and that process. In the beginning I am wearing all black and dressed head to toe, by the end I am in a tank top and shorts. I was motivated by my own personal growth. I have been struggling a lot with mental health and how I feel as though Iām putting on a front for the world around me, so I decided to show me finally being comfortable in my own skin, no longer hiding from the world as much as possible. My process began with trying on a lot of clothes and then I sort of realized how the color of my clothing could affect the piece. So, I am emerging from my hardened steely black exterior to become a new person even if thereās many steps along the way.
This was a very brave, yet clear piece. You had an idea in mind and executed it exactly as you had planned. As someone who also suffers from depression having a āgoodā day can really feel like shedding a layer of weight you didnāt realize you were carrying.
I really love the meaning behind this piece. I know that the pandemic has made it incredibly harder for people with mental illnesses. Great work.
Art Project #4: One Minute Performance
The idea for this project came to me sporadically. I had just ordered $50 worth of takeout food for myself and on my drive home I envisioned a low lit room with faint tv noises and the emphasis of food. When I began recording it felt right to indulge, so I did. I enjoy this video and it makes me slightly uncomfortable
Man. It really do be like that tho.
The tone you achieved fits really well with the subject matter....it reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad would bring home McDonalds and I would watch Cartoon Network while I ate. Nostalgic...but maybe not the healthiest.
Project 4: One Minute Performance
I think this was a great performance art. I love how the model is smiling the whole time just like a doll. It really brings me back to my childhood or playing with barbies. This was a great idea!
I love your performance! I am intrigued to hear your intension behind the piece. your room is beautiful too :ā)
This is such an interesting performance! I knew exactly what you were trying to convey through the video. The creepy/funny tone is emphasized by the colorful hair!

Art of making boba
I think was a great idea to show a routine that you might do regularly. It was very satisfying to watch the boba getting made. Making drinks can be very personal and relaxing.
Nothing beats boba! I like the choice of using a mason jar and the angle of the camera. Great work!

The photographs taken were really well done. The idea of popping balloons filled with powder is very powerful. To me it shows breaking free from things that tie you down.
This was such a fun and creative interpretation of the project! I think it would have been so cool to see other colors, but even just the red is super effective and overall just fun!

Artistās Statement
Over the last few months I have been learning about techniques used by directors in the 20th century, mainly Alfred Hitchcock. I wanted to use his technique from Psycho and apply it with a more modern theme about depression and self harm. I wanted to show that these feelings we have today arenāt new for humanity and that we need to focus on helping people who suffer from these thoughts and actions. No matter who they are.Ā
I think this was a great use of practicing popular real film techniques. It looks like you had fun and did something you enjoy seeing in films.

This is honestly such a fun setāI can tell you were really enjoying making this project. It is such an interesting piece because of the juxtaposition between the happy carefree painting and the blackness surrounding. Thank you for sharing!
