In one of the Q&As, Vrelnir mentioned that one of the things Avery hates most is being tied up, because that's when they truly lose control of the situation. You can apparently convince them to do almost anything else - even wear a blindfold, or even take the role of a masochist during bdsm - but not be tied up.
Which made me think about their broken arm after the skyscraper rescue. With the sling keeping their arm immobilized, they basically spend weeks unable to use it. In a way, they're involuntarily restrained by their own injury. Maybe that's part of why they didn't want the PC visiting them in the hospital.
Vrelnir has said before that Avery doesn't consider things like catching a cold to make them feel vulnerable. Maybe what Vrelnir meant is that they don't see things beyond their control, like unpredictable health problems, as a personal vulnerability. But a broken arm - one fixed in a sling, practically bound in place where they physically can't use it - feels different. That seems like exactly the kind of vulnerability they'd actually hate.
It's their right arm, too. I don't remember any Q&A that confirmed whether Avery is right or left-handed, but statistically speaking, there's a good chance it's their dominant hand. If that's the case, both their daily life and their work would've become noticeably more inconvenient.
And yet... they still refuse help.
They're so pathetic. I adore them for it.
