The Morning After
Sunlight streamed in between the not quite closed curtains hitting Alex right in the face. Groaning he flung an arm over his eyes, slowly drifting back into sleep. However, the world had other plans for him...
Buzz.... Â Â Buzz... Â Â Â Buzz...... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â BEEP BEPP!
âOh my god,â he muttered to himself, reaching out blindly with his other arm to find his phone. Alex had been trying to ignore the buzzing and beeping of his phone for the last hour in an attempt to continue to sleep. Finally finding his phone (which heâd knocked on the floor earlier), readjusting on the couch again before looking at his phone.Â
8 missed calls from mom 10 text messages from mom 8 voicemail from mom 9 missed calls from Rick (label) 7 voicemail from Rick (label) 6 text messages from Maggy (label) 3 text message from Amanda
Label could wait, after all he was pretty sure his mother would be pissed if he didnât respond. Kicking off the blanket he fumbled off the couch to his feet, stretching before shuffling to the door, slipping his shoes on and stepping onto the doorstep. Amanda likely only called because their mom called her, so heâd start with their mom first.Â
Itâd only rung once before his motherâs panicked voice came over the phone. âAlex??â He sighed aloud before he spoke, first day home and heâs already got his mother freaking out. âHi mom. Sorry about not texting you or anything, my walk turned much longer, and I uh-....â He paused glancing at the door he stood in front of. I ended up sleeping at Ziaâs place, yeah not going to mention that. âBumped into some friends and crashed at their place, no one seems to be awake yet. But once they are Iâll make a graceful exit and come home, okay?â There was silence again, his mother's breathing had calmed down the longer he spoke. âFine, but we will need to have a long talk once you get home. Just because you are some superstar doesnât mean you can just leave me here, worried sick, not hearing from you. You are lucky I didnât call the cops!â Sighing again, âI know, Iâm sorry. Iâll let you know when Iâm heading home. I love you, okay, bye.â And with that, he hung up.Â
Clicking on his sister's name in his text messages, he rolled his eyes. They wondered why he didnât come home, well this was prime example why.Â
From Amanda: Dumbass call mom, sheâs freaking out. - 8:05 am I canât believe you, you are home one day and youâve already made mom crazy. Honestly Alex will you ever grow up?? - 8:14 am Call her, text her, SOMETHING. Iâm trying to sleep. Just because Iâm pregnant doesnât mean I canât still kick your ass. Call mom or Iâll find you. - 8:30 am
To Amanda: I called mom, chill. - 8:55 am
He hit send quickly before glancing around the area, heâd never be able to stand like this anywhere else. Yet, he likely shouldnât stand outside a whole lot longer here either. It was cold and Alex knew people would get the wrong idea on why he was on Ziaâs doorstep so early in the morning. Slipping back into the house, he removed his shoes again and started cleaning up the couch. He left the blankets and pillows folded at one end of it, unsure if he should wash them or not.Â
Once that was done he took a seat, bringing his phone to his ear again and listening to the messages from his label. He liked that his people cared about him and about his music, but he also wished they get lives and leave him alone for a couple of hours. Sending both of them a quick text saying he was alive and reassuring them that he would be working on things while at home.Â
Leaning back Alex finally got to look around the room, itâd been dark and late last night so he didnât really inspect the area. Pushing off the couch he moved along the room slowly, looking at pictures and decorations. Alex used to consider Ziaâs home to be his second home. Now though, it felt weird to be in the space without someone being there. He used to come in and make himself at home, now though, he felt strange looking at some of the pictures. He used to be in her life at the time some of these pictures, but more recent ones, he wasnât. He wasnât there for when she needed him, he wasnât there for the events or the reasons of the pictures. He didnât get the text messages or snapchats of her brothers decorating the tree or baking cookies.
And it was his fault, he couldnât say it was because of his fame, because it wasnât. It was him. He made a choice, a bad one, and it blew up in his face. Outwardly fitching at sounds Alex put down whatever heâd been looking at and quickly turned to see if someone was coming. The urge to bolt rushed over him. This was who he was wasnât it? Zia had ever right to be pissed at him, he wanted her to be, but here he was in her living room waiting for someone to wake up. Yet there was a small part of him that still wanted to run, still wanted to avoid dealing with what he did.Â
