Born to parents in Harlem, Avayah had a slightly rough upbringing as an only child. She couldn’t enjoy the finer things in life, and only had what her parents were able to provide — nevertheless, she was and is still super grateful. Her love for fashion started at a young age. Her mom had taken her to a dentist appointment and while waiting, Avayah found herself flipping through the many fashion magazines that the office had on display. It was at that point that she requested more clothes, and even more magazines to collect to observe and admire the different creative styles portrayed each and every time. For her twelfth birthday, her parents surprised her with her own sewing machine and fabrics, they weren’t the highest quality but either way, Avayah was over the moon.
At first, her dream was to become a celebrity stylist but after styling a few different people, she wanted something more steady. Hearing from a friend that WWE was hiring and looking for a stylist, Avayah knew that she couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Her call back from the company was relatively fast, not that she would dare complain about it. Her parents were thrilled when she informed them of where she had been hired. The first few months were a learning curve, adjusting to sleeping patterns when she had to be backstage for televised shows to keep each and every superstar looking their best. But now, she is enjoying it completely. Each country, each city, each person… It’s a new opportunity for her to learn more and observe more about her passion.
