TRIGGER WARNING: familial death/murder.
February 14 –– a day that celebrates universal love, produced the youngest of the Thompson siblings. Robert and Melanie’s own little Saint Valentine. From the moment young Ava was born into the world, she was doted on as the baby of the family. Nonetheless, she was always expected to live up to the standards set by her parents just as her siblings were. The earliest lesson taught was the image of the perfect family, and the first trait she discovered about herself was her deep aversion to being controlled. After all, what was the point of pretending to be a perfect family if their own father couldn’t live up to that ideal?
From a young age, Ava was acutely aware of her parents' arguments, though she didn't understand their reasons. She instinctively took her mother's side, resulting in a lifelong prioritization of her mother and sister above all else. Her father, Robert Thompson, the late former mayor, Ava had loved him. Childhood photos showed moments of affection, but those were fleeting. The fact that he had a child from a previous relationship who suddenly lived with them and her mother wasn’t happy anymore was something she struggled to understand. What Ava did comprehend was the resentment she held towards Robert, and the beginning of a lifelong void was created. A void that could never be filled.
She had been a child when he passed. Or sadly, was killed. Her father’s murder profoundly affected her perspective on life, despite not having a close relationship with him. It had been a tragedy that shook Wilmington. Too young to comprehend the concept of murder or its implications, or why everyone looked at her funny, or stopped her in the streets to ask her about her family. She simply understood that everything would be different from that moment forward. To her, life was too short for arguments, too short for pretending, too short for anything that didn’t bring joy. While her older sister became a recluse, Ava craved hedonism and chased it to the ends of the earth. If Elena took on the role of the responsible older sister, Ava embraced recklessness and carefree living, her head in the clouds and her passport stamped to wherever life, or friends, or lovers—or apple pay—would take her. Leaving her mother and sister to pick up the pieces.
College was always expected of her—an ultimatum: attend college or risk losing her inheritance. The choice was clear, but Ava spun it in her favor. While Elena thrived in the circle of Ivy Leagues, Ava took a different path. Her own path. She accepted an offer from the University of Miami, majoring in marketing, and left without a backward glance. She embraced life’s ups and downs, partied until morning and traveled often and to everywhere she could, but she insisted that her life was her own.
Post-graduation was supposed to mark the transition into adulthood, yet Ava clung to her hedonistic lifestyle—jetting off to a new country each month with nothing to tie her down. Holding a steady job proved difficult, as punctuality and frequent absences became her norm. Seldom could you find the youngest Thompson in the same place for longer than a few weeks. Relationships eluded her, incompatible with her flighty nature.
Her life was forced into evaluation on the eve of her 32nd birthday when a call from her sister had Ava on the first flight out of Rome, back to Wilmington. Their mother was “in love.” And while Ava generally supported every decision Melanie took, her sister had been distraught at the idea that this new man in their mothers life had ill intentions.
Life in Wilmington hadn’t been all bad. With new friends, a new home, and a new career. Though Ava found her sisters distaste of their mothers new relationship rather dramatic, she sensed something was off, unable to place what exactly it was. Her mother enjoyed having her back home, and Ava had spent so long abroad, she found herself longing for time with her family. Or perhaps longing to keep her mother’s attention focused on her. Fortunately, Elena had also recently joined them, reuniting the three Thompson women again. In different places and stages of their lives–it felt like a new adventure for Ava. But who knows how long that feeling would last?

her place isnt too big, right on the beach and lined with minimalistic furniture, just how she likes it. nothing to tie her down too much. but the place will generally be a bit messy.
always very friendly, playful, and just wants to know everyone's stories. but she does have an edge to her.
ava is an open book–except if you discuss her fathers death or his choices in life. she will likely bite your head off.
