âUsually kind people donât gotta fight so hard when it comes to proving theyâre a kind person, just sayinââ Weston couldnât help the snarky tone of his voice that could only be described as a little brother teasing his older sister. He really did miss her, and he was glad that she was sticking around in town, however, saying it like that was impossible, so instead he chose to tease her. âYeah, Iâm a full grown adult who has a mortgage and an exceptional credit score,â he joked with a chuckle. Truth be told, he felt like just yesterday they were still kids running around and getting into trouble. He liked to think if their mother was still around she would look at the two of them and be proud. âOf course, whatâs politics without a little nepotism,â he said half-sarcastically as he shook his head at her, âSee, this isnât helping your whole âIâm a kind personâ case.â
âWhat can I say, Iâm full of dope ideas,â It was hard not to look so smug at that point, especially when Weston loved making his family proud, his sisterâs pride included. âExactly, Iâll have Jade work on the details and maybe set up a meeting later this week,â It was easy enough, not to mention he had done similar programs in the past so it wouldnât be difficult to take care of. âThatâs because I definitely didnât tell you or your friends I had one â couldnât risk you ratting me out to pops,â he said with a laugh, thinking it silly in retrospect but their father had always been far more strict than their mother and Weston had always aimed to win his father over no matter what. âSix foot? You better be kiddinââ he said with an amused scoff, âYou know, Iâve heard it frowned upon to lie about your height, might extend past dating apps and into fake IDâs too if you ask me,â Another joke.Â
âIâm not fighting people, Iâm fighting you.â She said, resisting the urge to snatch her hand forward and slap him upside the head like she had done so many times before in their youth. Little brothers, they were both the bane of her existence and her favorite people. Ava snorted at the mention of his exceptional credit score. Hers wasnât exactly too hot. Being a struggling artist in L.A. wasnât at all glamorous, nor was it paved with minimal debt. She shrugged her shoulders innocently. âWell Mr. Mortgage, since you wanna brag, I guess next round is on you.â She teased, âAnd you know what, Iâm not even gonna argue anymore. Iâll just let my actions speak for themselves.â
âReally? Just like that?â She said, her heart warming at the idea that maybe she wouldnât be out of a job, and that maybe she wouldnât have to break her studentsâ hearts with the news that they wouldnât be able to learn music next year. âWell... thank you. Really, I appreciate it, Wes,â Despite her teasing and her perpetual older sibling complex, she loved and appreciated her brother. There was a lot that they had gotten through together, and certainly more that they would all have to face in the future. âOooh so my little brother has jokes. Youâre not as funny as you think you are.â Ava chuckled, raising her drink to her lips again, pausing only to shoot her brother a curious look. âYou talk to Pop? The man swears I donât call him.â
