The Clock: Performance Art

The clock is a human clock in the open world. The idea was to make myself into a working clock (we’ll try too) that resembles the actual time. I used my own to imitate the movement and time of the clock. It was a long and rough performance as it gets tiring after a while. In the clip, I had to rest for a minute - That’s why there are cuts in the video. The main intention was to also have the sun as an element in the piece. When coming up with the Clock, it originated by looking at a clock. It made me wonder if I could use my own arms and body to recreate the movement. I could Imitate the movement with my arms. This was a new style of art that I’ve done. It explored my strengths and weaknesses . Being in a public space was nerve racking but it ended up being good. Location was very important to the overall piece as it added another time keeper.

I have never tried to do performance art at all. Not even acting in general. The areas I went did not have much traffic as I went to places closes to my work. It was an experience to just try it. There were people who would stare at me and wonder what I’m doing from afar. One of my coworkers( from the video from the parking lot) even asked me what I was doing when I went to work. I felt embarrassed to do some cause people looked at me when passing by.

One a side note, I did not realize it was supposed to be 3 mins for each performance. It wasn’t for 3 mines but rather a quick one. Even for it to be short, there was still looks at me.

For the project, I went a more land art approach. Materials I used were strictly from the environment. I wanted to make a mandala or something very symmetrical. Using rocks and leaves to create something like a mandala. Luckily it snowed, and I used it to my advantage to create more curves. The ideas was to use things to create something in its surrounding.

I based my assignment on the idea that journey did with their song Dont Stop Believing. Instead I took a different approuch but using the same idea. Instead of don’t stop believing I went with stop trying.

Hi Everyone!

Here is my Video Remix about the Dream Board of Life.

What are your goals and aspirations for your life? Have you ever wanted a big house, a perfect family, a dream job, and overall happiness? At least once in our lives, we have sat down and created a dream board, and for the most part, it is not entirely realistic; some of those dreams or goals don’t come true. Instead of making a physical dream board made out of magazine cutouts glued to a cardboard sheet, I can virtually make a dream board through different videos found on YouTube. My artwork’s message responds like a collage of art videos expressing contemporary art through wants, hopes, and desires of the future.

When I was younger, my mom and I would make dream boards together every new year to be creative and set our future goals. Spending time with my mom and doing fun crafts was always something I looked forward to doing. I loved that one on one time. Since then, I continue to make goals for my life, and as I see them come true, I find gratitude, peace, and happiness in each moment I seek.

Most of the time, we watch movies that are “not real life”; they are “dream life” that everyone wishes they could have to be happy. We watch those movies/ videos because it makes us feel good and dreams of hope for the future to live a life similar to that. This is the same intention for the viewers to see in my video.

My goal as an artist is to enlighten people from this destructive and depressing world and bring back hope and happiness by being more optimistic about the present and future. See life from a different point of view through different lenses.

Great message to show dreams, aspirations and goals. There was no error in editing. Transitions were smooth, especially with the cap throwing scene. It brings many motivations to have people pursue their dreams. It does resonate with your idea for dreams and goals. Any person would be inspired. Great touch with the military as it symbolizes strength and aspiration for the future. Great video and great message.

Video remix

By focusing on surrealism in this piece, I wanted to explore the complexities of the human mind. The way that surrealism, particularly in television and film, is able to reveal complex truths about characters and the world they live in has always been of interest to me. When choosing sources, I was influenced by two of my favorite directors, David Lynch and Sam Esmail. I used various clips from their works, Twin Peaks and Mr. Robot, respectively. While my original thought process encompassed a wide range of ideas, as I developed this piece, it became more specific in meaning when I chose to incorporate an inquisitive dialogue. By doing this, I was able to focus on specific aspects of surrealism, rather than surrealism as an entire art style and movement. While I did focus mainly on the dreamlike, more imaginative aspects of surrealism, I hope that my work captures the overall essence of surrealism.

The video was put together very well. The transitions were seamless without any random jump cuts. Audio seemed rushed a little. In terms of Surrealism, the effect done to some of clips worked really well. It made it own theme and idea. There was the right amount of footage from different shows to give it a surreal effect.

Video Remix - Summertime News

I wanted to focus on blending and paralleling current events with a symbolic song. My initial idea involved the use of many time periods. That concept was altered to fit the needs of finding the proper voices to complete the song. The song used, ‘Summertime’ by George Gershwin, from the opera ‘Porgy and Bess’. Although written by a white man, the song is sung by a black woman. The world did not have a summertime, rather one spent in quarantine. The song and clips bring together the continuous pain felt by the Black community; the loss of a summer, the excessive police brutality (focusing on attacks of reporters) and the disrespect of Black women.

Kendall - This is a wonderfully put together video. The transitions are smooth, and by combining the singing clips with the news clips, you generated an entirely new meaning. Beyond that, your decision to use a variety of those clips elevates the meaning by showing how these are not singular occurrences, they are an ongoing reality. By choosing such a meaningful song and bringing it together with the clips you chose, you were able to create a captivating video.

The following idea takes a twist to mix today media and songs from the past and blends them together. The transition from one clip to the others, where seamless with no jumps or cuts. The audio transition nicely without any skips or cuts. The craftsmanship was great. The ideas took an interesting turn to blend a song, and current events. The idea was portrayed really well with how the summer was for the year 2020. It had great contrast ideas. Great video.

Star Wars, Star Wars, and Star Wars. Star Wars was the inspirations behind the video. Star Wars has had a big part in my life and childhood. From my childhood, I was gazed at the thoughts of the original trilogy and the prequal trilogy. Behind this video was the Idea of the Force and how the jedi lives. In my own personal life, The Jedi beliefs follow a similar pattern to those of native decants. Some Similarities include the force and the spiritually. I wanted to show the force in terms of the Jedi. There was one scene in “A New Hope” that describe everything perfectly. I decided to use that to show case the jedi in the old republic. This was more personal because of the connections I had to the films and how my own beliefs can fall in line with the jedi.

All artists have their unique way of using film to display many great ideas. The artist ideas can intertwine with reality because their are so many Mise-en-scene. Most notible art piece was the still life. Great use of time to show how fruits and vegetable react overtime. It was personally my favorite video shown. Technology can create different types of art.

The following was made in Microsoft word. The process was really easy once i got to know the shapes. I figured the shapes were used to create banners, or presentation paper as a use to emphasize certain areas.

The process was easy, i just used simple shapes to create a landscape. these shapes were included in the program, which can be used to create things. (if you want to for a cheap prices, rather than using big programs like creative cloud.)v there could be endless possibility to create different ideas)

The Film, AI Weiwei: Never Sorry (2012), tells the story about the artist Ai Weiwei and his time making art in China. Within the art, he shows the problems and the status of how the communist party runs in china.

As an artist, Ai Weiwei is shown to be a courageous, brave, resilient artist that does many things that no one would dare to do in China. Many calls him an “artist that is not within the system”. He does whatever it takes to make a voice through the art he makes, the documentaries he creates, the blog he posts and the pictures he takes. Ai Weiwei takes a stand for the people of China in terms of their human rights.

Most of his art works that steams from China has a tie to the politics that resides there. Many meanings are to show what he encounters and the problems he faces. Some notable political works he’s done were he taking pictures of him showing the finger to China. His artworks are out of the box and the meanings are so different. Ai Weiwei does open new doors for many people.
