       “ the wedding is in three weeks. normally this would have all been planned ages ago but she’s changed her mind on the theme about five times. “  pippa dropped her voice to a hush, as if one of the brides friends might be lurking around the corner.  she was a young bride, so it as in the realm of possibility. “ so here we are, scrambling to get everything put together. “  she held up her hands, as if to say, what can you do ?  “ i think this might be the one.  you’ve got a good eye, lonnie. “  she smiled. “ have you ever considered a career in even planning ?  i think you’d be quite good at it. “

″ during my seventh year that wasn’t a day i went by without calling someone the c work. mentally, of course. i’m a lady. ″ her lips curved in an amused smile, attention split between the spells she was carrying and the younger witch. with a flourish of her wand, the cauldrons clanked back inside the sink as the former gryffindor pointed it at the other girl, lifting random locks of blonde hair to assess the hogwarts student’s hair situation. ″ we’re formally closed, but i don’t mind squeezing yer in as long as i don’t have to get another cauldron dirty. take a seat, luv. ″

     avalon nodded in agreement, “ah, yeah, seventh year brings that out in all o’us i think.” the blonde witch gave a grateful smile, “y’don’t, promise   --   hair is freshly washed ‘n everythin’, just need a l’il snip is all.” she plopped herself down in the chair, looking into the mirror ahead. “i really do appreciate it, i promise i’ll tip ya heavily for squeezin’ me in. i dunno when i’ll be able t’get back down here again.”

“      ha ha,      ”      alison let out a sarcastic laugh at her cousin’s jester.      “      fortunately  for me i am done with my wizarding education.  so no owl from dumbledore,  thank merlin.  and can’t i just visit hogwarts for the sake of it  ?  i mean,  it has been three years since i graduated.  not to mention,  i was abroad two years prior.  so there is a lot to catch up on.  that and bless merlin because the last time i was here,  i came to ask snape something.  and let me tell you,  he wasn’t  too  helpful.  he should at least be  GLAD  that someone’s taken an interest and became a potioneer.  it’s not like i’m gunning after his position as  potions master.  but anyways  !  how have you been  ?      ”

     “even as a slytherin i have t’wonder  --  is snape ever really helpful? i mean i like the professor o’course, but i can’t imagine what a nightmare his class would be if i actually needed assistance in potions or if i wasn’t a member of his house,” the blonde witch snickered, she was well aware that had she not been sorted into slytherin, there was no way that snape would deal with her at all. “been alright,” avalon shrugged, “busy with school work -- newt year and all that. oh! before i forget, gwaine wanted me to pass on a hello if i saw you before he did   ...   so, hello from your dear older cousin.”

        “ hmm. “  pippa stopped to consider.  with her wand, she conjured queen anne’s lace, light colored roses and some peonies.  she left out the hydrangea, deciding it would be a bit much to try to incorporate all of them.  spinning them around, she used her wand to change the colors from shades of pink, red, and then a duty orange.  “ what do you think ?  she asked.  “  personally i like the dusty orange … surprisingly.  i usually HATE orange … which is unfortunate. “  she sighed.  “ daddy’s favorite quidditch team is the chudley cannons.  i think he just likes how bright they are … and how they never win anything. “  she shrugged.  “ he roots for the underdogs. “

   avalon scrunched her nose at the mention of the notoriously bad quidditch team.  “the cannons are ... not great, but this bouquet,” she paused to smile, “is beautiful. not that i’m surprised, o’course, this is your callin’ after all, pips. when does this wedding happen again?”

to be fair; it had been awhile since jinx’s last stop at the three broomsticks. but who could say no to butterbeer? and some chips while she was at it? the redhead could never, it was always a tradition when she stopped by. “merlin’s beard that reminds me of my hogwarts days, and where a lot of my time was spent– the library, the pitch and the ravenclaw common room. sounds like you could use some fun.” a laugh falls from her lips, as her smile widens across freckled features. and the other part? spent causing chaos, and pranks. it was always a delight to see someone she’d taught when she was a teaching assistant and whenever professor flitwick had needed her to. seeing familiar faces in the castle corridors on a daily basis was definitely something she missed at times, although she wasn’t sure she’d say that out loud. “well, in that case i’m glad to hear you’re out and about now. i had some time off training, and really wanted a butterbeer. so here i am.”

     “well you certainly timed your visit well!” avalon grinned, taking a sip from her own drink. “we miss ya over at the castle, y’know? love ol’ flitwick of course,  but it was a treat havin’ ya as a TA. how is trainin’ going, the dragons treatin’ ya well? i keep tryin’ to tell gwaine that we need t’get a dragon as a pet.”

in an instant,  his hand flew up to run through his hair.  it’d become a habit.  he internally thanked merlin that he didn’t end up spilling avalon’s butterbeer.  of course,  a simple cleaning spell would most likely clean up the mess should it end up on his clothes.  but anything to save the effort.      “      oh no,  it’s okay.  really,  if anything i think it may have been my fault.  i wasn’t exactly watching where i was going.      ”      he gave her a polite smile.  damon hadn’t seen avalon since the opening of st.  regal all the way in liverpool.  his parents insisted on throwing a party of sorts and inviting anyone who was  anyone  in wizarding society in attendance.  fortunately,  this went  BEYOND  blood status.  and this,  included the balinor family.  though,  he never really could get a clear read on the blonde witch standing in front of him.      “      say,  i haven’t seen you since the party at st.  regal’s last winter,      ”      he started.      “      how are things  ?      ”

      avalon nodded, a polite   --   but very slight   --   smile gracing her features. she remembered the party well, especially since her and gwaine had attended very few pureblood society events since the death of their parents in the winter of avalon’s fourth year. the memory of them had made avalon quite anxious and tense all night, and she was sure that she probably had not made the best impression on the nott family due to this. “i suppose it has been quite some time,” she confirmed. “things are well, just focusing on finishing up my last year at hogwarts strong and determining what i want to do with my time after graduation, you know? and how about yourself, damon?”
