just a heads up to all my uk fibromyalgia people
given that fibro got that study about autoimmune roots, that Should (in theory) make us eligible for free flu jabs under the nhs site's guidelines without having to jump through hoops talking to doctors about it, under the long-term health condition: weakened immunity reason
i know i haven't been 100% certain i could get it free previously even asking a pharmacist who had them available (and i got a minor learning disability on top of the fibro even), but hopefully with this we might be able to get somewhere?
i definitely will see for myself if i can get it with that justification, i just got to. uh. recover from maybe-a-cold-maybe-the-flu first, ironically enough. (side note, anyone got any idea how we're meant to tell the difference? 'flu makes you feel exhausted and unable to carry on as normal' like bruh i'm always exhausted. if an ablebodied person dealt with what we do on a regular basis THEY would be unable to carry on as normal that isn't a good benchline. all i know is it's not covid because i'm actually able to write comprehensibly unlike Last Time
)
Happy Disability Pride Month to the people whose number of illnesses—mental and/or physical—go into the double digits.
God, it is HARD juggling all of it sometimes, right? And it’s hard when people don’t believe us, or think we made all this up for attention. No, I wish I didn’t need help with all these illnesses, I wish I didn’t have such a large number of them. I’m suffering. This isn’t for attention.
i put my disabilities out there because it’s a part of who i am and i have been misdiagnosed & gaslighted about them. it’s self-actualization and empowerment to me. i wear my disabilities on my sleeve because i am done being quiet about them in a society and environment that so desperately wants me to be silent. my health is not a taboo or moral wrongdoing, any more than an abled person’s health is.

Something that I have noticed very recently is that when I tell someone, especially the neurotypicals, that I am “bad at communication”, they automatically think communication = conversation. I wish more people knew that communication is not the same as conversation, so I could avoid the “But you communicate really well” when they mean to say “You are very good at holding a conversation”.
Folks, I am having a Bad Time™
I'm disabled, and as a result, I can't work, especially now with the pandemic, as I'm also immuno-compromised. I do art, but that's also a struggle most days, as my health has tanked recently. In order to survive, I sell my plasma, which also makes me feel ill, which makes my health worse... you see the issue I'm having. anyway, I'm asking for help. Anything at all helps me, and I'm just trying my best to get by. If y'all have a few dollars you could throw my way, or even if you could just reblog this, I'd appreciate it.

I think people need to use the word sincere more when talking about autistic people. Blunt, straightforward, taking things literally, those words don't always work to describe how autistic people express themselves. But in my experience, it's always sincere.
I’d like to address the issue with able-body people thinking that when someone with a disability is Going Through It™️, they aren’t allowed to do things that make them happy.
Whenever I have a migraine, my mom believes that I should be unmoving, and curled up in a dark, cold room, and attempt to fall asleep. As someone who doesn’t want to go to bed at 3pm, I’m not going to do that!
If I have nothing important to do (or not enough spoons to do it) I’m going to do something I enjoy! That doesn’t mean I’m not in pain, or “feeling better.” (In fact, doing things I enjoy helps me!)
But assuming I, or any other disabled person should sit there and suffer is a fucked up way to think.
THIS A HUNDRED TIMES THIS!!! My mom thinks every time my stomach turns, I need to lay down, sip water, close my eye, and sleep. My man. Zoning out on my phone helps distract me
chronically ill/physically disabled person with adhd culture is using the last of your spoons to do something absolutely unnecessary and/or ridiculous

Friendly reminder that it’s OKAY if you’re incredibly productive one day but can’t get out of bed the next. That does not necessarily mean that you are regressing with your progress.
Our energy comes and goes, and it takes a while and a lot of practice to find a perfect balance. Take time to recharge yourself without feeling guilty for it!
Chores can wait, friends can wait. You are the most important person in your life, so feel free to take your time to heal.
Health anxiety helpful tips
I just wanted to share some tips and tricks that help me through one of those awful, life-ruining Disease of The Week panic spirals. (With that said, if you are having any weird symptoms, still go to the dr because that’s what we all have to do!) I’d love it if people could reblog with what works for them. Keep in mind I’m talking specifically about health anxiety, and not general anxiety disorder. Anyway here are mine:
– My teacher in massage school told us one day: Cancer doesn’t come and go. Pain from it can come and go in waves, but you’re not usually getting *better* on and off.
–You thought you had the scariest disease, like ALS (one I’m always afraid of,) like five years ago. Or something else aggressive. And now you think you have it again. If you had it 5 years ago, would you still be here? This, too, shall pass.
–You knew or were acquainted with someone who died of this particular thing, and now you have a symptom that is similar to how theirs started. But what are the odds that you would both have the same thing?
–As my doctor once told me: When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses, not zebras. In other words, there’s probably a super common reason for that pain or symptom. Back pain? Think bulging disc and not tumors. Headache? Think migraine or sinusitis and not tumors. Neck pain? Think bulging disc or tension, not meningitis. The most common reasons are also the most benign ones.
–You just read about this terrible disease or accident and now you’re afraid of it. Again, what are the odds that something will happen to you directly after reading about it? That’s too weird.
i have to remember i chose this blog name for a reason

why choose when you can have 💕✨both💫💗
DISABLED PERSON: It is unsafe for me to do this thing.
ABLED PERSON: Do it anyway. It will be fine.
It is never fine. Trust disabled people. We know our bodies better than you do.
