my friend is writing homestuck fanfic with our self insert ocs that i’m making art for
i win college
Woah hey, I'm in this post
Don't mind me scrolling your page at 12am
I've finally found the words to describe why I hate modern Insta/TikTok/slop/pop humor so much.
I've never liked the sitcom or shock types of humor, as they usually rely on a general meanness. Humor comes from the subversion of expectations. This type of humor relies on our expectations of "normal people" and "normal behavior" in a deeply ablist, transphobic, homophobic, fatphobic, and often classist, racist, and sexist way. It's punching down, and that kind of "humor" is both hurtful and fails at the point of comedy.
While many have called this modern humor absurdist, it isn't. The ASDF movie is absurdist. It subverts our expectations of what would logically come next. It subverts our expectations of the format of a joke.
This modern humor is, for the most part, ragebait, insults, and AI algorithmically driven down people's throats. So why does anyone laugh? Because they're stressed. They're tired. And they've been trained in the rhythm of comedy. They're expecting a joke because that's the format they're being served, and because they're told everyone else is laughing.
So what is being subverted? Quality, arguably. But not the way something like The Room or even Spaceballs does. That has some level of genuine attempt behind it. It's funny because there's a gap between the presentation of quality and the lack thereof, but it's held together by the fact that they were trying - either to reach that quality or to subvert it.
But this modern humor lacks authenticity. It's a simulacra of humor, abstracted from anything by algorithms, AI, and infinite reposting. The thing being subverted is the concept of humor itself. There is no joke, there is no art, there is no soul. There's a gap between the expectation of a joke and the stream of slop pouring through the social media feeds.
So, then, we have become the joke. We're laughing at our own expense. The joke is that silly you expected a joke. Just like how much of the humor in Hollywood has gone through so much bathos that the joke is that silly you expected authenticity. You expected sincerity. You expected art. Silly you.
no more historic events this decade that is ENOUGH, i’m putting my foot down
History is not done with us yet my friend
I have received all manner of threat, up to and beyond “I will play a flute carved from your femur,” and yet this is the first time I’ve felt truly threatened
i knew posting this in 2022 was risky but holy fucking shit
My friend, we still have 4 more years left in this decade...
Nothing's the same, everything and everyone has been deeply shaken, and we're far from done. It's exhausting and painful and disorienting and scary, but I didn't hear no fucking bell. Let's start making some good historical events.

We have two unwritten rules here:
1.
2.
Imma confess something I only just realized (about 5 or 6 years too late).
So, there's this girl (I know, transbian flag pfp, confession about a girl, insert "water is wet" meme). Anyways, there's a girl, who I met in 3rd grade. I befriended her because she'd was new to the school (plus also not white), so she didn't have friends and didn't fit in. I knew the feeling, having moved from the South to the Northeast a couple years prior. We were fast friends, along with another friend of mine, who I met a little earlier under similar circumstances (but that's a story for another day). To this day, I consider them both my two and only best friends.
Over the course of elementary and middle school, all the boys in my friend group ended up having a crush on her. I never really did, or at least didn't think I did. The thing is, this was all pre-transition, and I still didn't really feel much attraction towards anyone.
Then, freshman year. I've socially transitioned and am now firmly in the lesbian camp. And two things happen pertaining to this girl. One, she gets into a situationship with one of the boys in the friend group. Two, I start suspecting she's bi due to my impeccable gaydar (I ended up being right).
In retrospect I am realizing that by now, I was very much crushing on her. Previous retrospectives on this made me believe that it was alterous attraction (there's a good Tumblr post on that, but I don't feel like finding it). But now I'm starting to realize I might’ve just been in the deepest pits of denial.
See, as I've mentioned, everyone in the friend group had a crush on her at some point, including my other best friend. For that reason, I never even considered her an option (even when that would've been straight, pre-transistion, or post transistion when I suspected she was bi). That, and I felt like since all the boys had had a crush on her, me having had one would tie me to being a boy, which is ofc stupid.
Through a convoluted series of events, me, another of our friends all decided to do this fake flirting/banter thing (idk, teens do weird shit ig). She was doing it cuz she wanted to make situationship jealous and finally actually start a relationship. I was doing it 1) to make situationship jealous because I didn't want them together (whether for my sake or my best friends, or just cuz I didn't think he was good for her), and 2) in some strange attempt to prove (to whom idk) that I didn't have a crush on her.
At the end of that year she had to move to another state, and we fell outta contact, with me having successfully gaslit myself into thinking I didn't have feelings for her. But, around the end of my our senior year (which was summer of this year, 2025) we started talking again.
By that point she was already in an ldr with my other bestie (so, mission accomplished, ig?). However, she'd become a lot more confident and had taken up flirting playfully with girls (as I've been told is common with straight girls. She still thought she was straight). So, not even fully intentionally, she starts doing that with me. And I go along with it cuz idk, why tf not? But I quickly realized that, oh no, maybe I actually feel more strongly than I thought. But again, successful gaslighting about alterous attraction, yada yada.
But now, finally, I'm realizing, no, I do, in fact, have feelings for her. But it's too late. And it's my own fault. And she's in a happy relationship and I want to be happy for her. But I kinda wish I'd said something back in high school. If not to have had a relationship, then to at least know for sure, all else being equal, she'd have chosen him over me. Which is an almost certainty. Not just cuz she is in a relationship with him, but given my romantic track record of seemingly being completely unwanted, I know this wouldn’t’ve been any different.
And of course, what it took for me to realize was to get into my own situationship(?) and then get broken up(?) with because their aunt died and when I tried to offer support they pushed me away, being burnt out from work and college, and dealing with the absolute state of the world, all of which put me in a depressive spiral of self-loathing, and in the middle of one of my shifts in which I have a lot of time alone doing menial tasks to think, I'm going over all the times I've messed things up or people have been chosen over me and then, finally it hit me.
I'm possibly the most useless lesbian in existence.
I'm venting here because I'm too much of a coward to tell her, and I'm not sure I really wanna tell my other friends (DEFINITELY NOT ANY THAT KNOW HER). But, uh, if this somehow finds its way to her, that's fate, ig. So, if you're reading this, Charlotte, ig this is one overcomplicated way of saying "I love you." In a romantic way. And if it weren’t for the fact that you're in a happy relationship I may well/might’ve asked you out. I'm sorry. I feel like I shouldn't have these feelings and I should just be happy you're happy, but goddammit sometimes I just want to be a little selfish.
I'm going to try to tell her. Not because anything has changed. She's still taken and very much not into me. I just don't want to hold onto this anymore. Hopefully I can have a bit of closure. I just am worried that I'll ruin everything and for what?
Okay, so. I told her and... it didn't go as bad as I feared but also wasn't great. She said we should probably be more distant "not necessarily in response to this" but still idk this is exactly why I didn't want to say anything in the first place. As much as I feel good not holding onto it anymore, I still regret it and feel like I ruined things. Like, idk worse case scenario was she'd want to stop being friends and that was averted, but ig what I was hoping for was nothing would have to change. I mean, ofc the delulu best case scenario was she'd be like "oh I loved you this whole time" and so on but that was never a serious thought.
Can one be both hyperlexic AND dyslexic? Because I certainly have hyperlexia, I was a voracious and high level reader from an extremely early age. However, I can't spell for shit (thank god for autocorrect) unless I've thoroughly memorized the word's spelling, or it's very simple. I also have a tendency of randomly starting to write the second syllable of a word then back to the first syllable. So like I'd accidentally write people "plepeo".
So is this a Thing or am I Crazy?

"6 7, 6 7, 6 7!" you say. You fool! You absolute ignoramus! 6 doesn't go anywhere near 7 these days. *takes a swig from bottle* Don't you know what 7 did??? 7 *laughs humorlessly* 7 ATE 9! Don't you get it?? 7 ATE 9. And you think 6 wants anything to do with 7? And you don't even understand how close 6 and 9 were. Rumors say they were even lovers. Educate yourselves.
This is true
i was there
7? You villain! I shall bring your rein of terror to an end!
Man, my love life so far has really been:
(Starting pre-romance to set the stage)
Developing anxious attachment due to unstable parents
Developing a fear of abandonment by being repeatedly abandoned by so called friends
Being the emotional pack mule for friends who shamed me for msny of my attributes
Having a repressed crush on my best friend who was the only consistent source of care in my life
Feeling no attraction due to depression and dysphoria
Crush on a straight girl who a friend ended up dating
Minor infatuation with some girls
Lead on
Lead on again
Situationship
Situationship again
Crushes on two straight girls and infatuation with a lesbian who is so not into me
All the while holding this pain in due to being conditioned into never sharing my hurt
And feeling guilt for having desire (espeicslly unreciprocated) because of religous traume
And feeling bad because "love isn't necessary" and "I'm not owed love" and "I'm not healed" but it's hard to heal alone when no one breaks the pattern
And I just feel so unlovable by now
And that's why I am the way I am
So, yeah, the yearning isn't just desire. It's running, chasing any validation to stave off this deep well of pain. And I can't even escape into fiction because my thoughts are haunted by every past pain

Wrote a whole thing and Tumblr refused to post or save as a draft kill me rn
every time I see someone I find funny and wanna follow with MDNI in their bio, I cry a little
I've always found all the iterations of MDNI strange because the people who are going to respect it are rhe people who aren't the problem.
Unless ofc you're misandsrist (and likely also a biological essentialist) and you believe all men are inherently evil (and often this ends up in some way invalidating either trans women or trans men depending on the person). And you don't have to scroll very far to see my comprehensive diss on the idea of inherent evil.

I was lured in by Homestuck. I legit have so few people to talk about it to and I think they're getting tired of me yapping about it
hiii, just wanted to say that I relate to some of your posts (those about yearning specifically), and wanted to say that everything will be okay! at least I hope for the best
humans are complicated hjjjjghhhhh
Thank you! I also hope for the best, but it's hard, sometimes. This blog only captures a portion of what I go through, and it's kinda hard to describe the building feeling of hopelessness that always being lead on, or ghosted, or trapped in situationships creates. Cuz it's never been "we tried and our feelings were real but we're just not compatible." And combined with other traumas it just builds and builds as a feeling of being unlovable and unwanted. And it's infuriating that most of everyone's advice is some variation of: "You don't need love to be happy" "just work on yourself and it'll come in time" and "love comes when you least expect it". Which, to someone with the trauma that I have, reads more as "your feelings are invalid and you're being needy, no one owes you shit" "you haven't fixed yourself enough to be deserving of love" and "through all your darkest moments you fought through alone, you still didn't earn love." I know that's not what people are trying to say, but that's the impact it has, especially when that's all anyone ever says. Almost nobody says "I'm sorry to hear that, you've been through a lot and you didn't deserve any of that." And it really sucks every time I see a happy couple, especially ones who met through like Tumblr, and I just feel deep envy and bitterness. And that only makes me despise myself for feeling that way, like I needed any help with self-loathing.
But, I keep holding onto hope, though every next thing that happens makes it feel a little colder, a little more distant. Once hope was like a blinding beacon lightning my path. Now it's barely a shimmer on the horizon as I stumble aimlessly forward. But I'll keep trying, because that, more than anything, is my nature.
Sorry to kinda vent at you but this shit's been building.
