dead men dont tell lies
If his heart still beat, it would have been beating at the speed of sound. He didn’t think he could respond. He wasn’t sure if he should respond. What would he respond with? The truth was weird, even for him. Lies wouldn’t do any good; he was too deep in lies already, and she was beginning to see that.
He gazed at her hand. There was an internal tug of war between his desire and his fear. He wanted to hold onto her hand and feel her warmth, but something told him that it would be a horrible idea to leave that spot on the desk. He stayed at that spot for a few seconds before he pushed himself off of the desk and crawled into bed next to her. He lay down, wrapped his arms around her, and pulled her into his chest. He held onto her hands and intertwined their fingers, and then buried his face in her hair.
If this was the last time she’d be okay with him holding her like this, then he’d make sure to enjoy every moment.
He pressed a kiss to the back of her neck before nuzzling her. “‘m sorry,” he mumbled. “I like bein’ around you…”
She let out a contented sigh, curling up into his arms. Her bed suddenly felt warmer, even if he really wasn't any temperature higher than room temperature. Things didn't feel so empty, and her mind felt less clouded. Though maybe that was because she was starting to wake up fully.
Her heart gave a loud thump as she settled into him, a feeling of...rightness when Rin kissed her neck and held her hands and buried into her hair. It felt nice and welcomed. She'd missed it. She hated feeling dependency on anyone, but it wasn't a crime to admit she enjoyed being cared about, right?
His words sent the gears in her mind whirring. He liked being around her, but he had been avoiding her for quite a few days. Something suddenly felt off, shoving out the 'rightness' of snuggling up with him. "...Then how come you've been avoiding me? I haven't seen you all week." She didn't extract herself from his hold just yet, staring ahead into the dark. "How'd you get in without making any noise? The doors were locked." She wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, to give him a chance to come clean and tell her what she was suspecting: anywhere along the lines of a runaway who'd set up home in her own, or nearby. It sure as hell was big enough. But he definitely wasn't living next door.
