“They’re babies… I know they need more attention and I could take maternity leave or something. They need their mothers.” Even as adults, her children went straight to the underworld to save Aurelia. She knew that they all would have done the same for her if she became trapped in Hell. “The world can be an awful place, but I think when it comes to our children, it’s important to teach them that this place doesn’t have to be. If we can show them that the world can be wonderful then it will be right? They’re powerful, but I want them to be kind and smart too.” 

She chuckled. “Never…” She couldn’t fight back her smile. The woman in front of her was going to be her wife and now she was handing her a symbol of their promise. She carefully slipped the ring on her finger. “Yes… she’s picked up on my habits… I sleep in when I’m not working… and she copies… Maybe she gets bored entertaining herself without us. We should set up more play dates.” Lilith kissed back and then looked down at Aurelia’s ring. “Yes… I had it resized for you… My father used this to propose to my mother and… I wanted to give it to the one that I truly love. I can’t imagine having a family with anyone else. I want forever with you. I know it’s a yes, but I’m glad that we’ll marry each other. We’re going to be wives.” 

“They love you regardless. You’re their mother.” countered Aurelia with a reassuring tone. “I know how important your work is. Whatever you choose to do, I’ll support it.” For how she came to be, Lilith worked her ass off and Aurelia was well aware of that. She was also passionate about what she does and so, Aura would stick with her every step of the way. “Of course. We’ll continue to raise them into this world with as much love and compassion too.” While Lilith had loving and supporting human parents, Aurelia only had herself and Angeline, but that in itself wasn’t enough. It was during her time in Ceres that she learned to love as much as she did today with her children. Therefore, she knew that her children could do the same now that they had two loving parents to raise them. 

Was she working too hard? She always told herself that she would work her hardest, but if her family time suffered then maybe she really did need a break. “Do the kids feel like I’m too busy for them?” She asked. Her brows creased in worry. They were both so young and they needed both of their parents. If she was absent, then how would she be able to do any proper parenting. “Ok… I’ll take it easy for you, Aura, and for the children. I’m sure they want to see both of us together. Miah seems happiest when we’re both around.” She smiled softly. Despite the trouble with Aurelia’s immortality, she was doing well and Lilith wasn’t too far to find her when blackouts occurred. “I’m not either… I’m thinking that after a few more years teaching… I might go back into politics and prove to people that I’m fighting for them… They were disappointed but I do want to right the wrongs and be able to look at our children… show them that I’m proud of what I’ve done.”

 Lilith spent most of her life being confident in herself, which meant that when she fell in love with Aurelia, she was sure of her feelings from the beginning. So she started to talk about marriage in fun little scenarios, always feeling around to see how the other woman felt. Commitment may have been something to be avoided for Aurelia, but Lilith found her way to it faster than anyone ever thought she would, including herself. She kissed her fiancée back while gently cupping her cheek and resting her other hand on her shoulder. She always thought that she’d be the one to propose first, but this made sense, and there was nothing wrong with being unprepared for good news. “I love you so much… I’m ready for forever with you and you’re welcome. You deserve all of it and of course, I promised to be with you. I don’t like to break promises… I just can’t believe… Well…” Lilith reached for the drawer on the side table. She then pulled out a velvet box and opened it. “Grace was supposed to help me give this to you today…” She had a ring, the one that had once belonged to her mother. “It’s why I had a day off.”

Aurelia shook her head immediately after hearing her doubts. “No...Not at all.” she reassured her. “We understand why you have to do what you need to do. Don’t ever think you’re burdening us with your absence.” At her willingness to try, the Immortal grinned at the thought of their son, “He is our son after all and he’s a bundle of joy.” She held a proud smile at her fiancée’s plans for the future. If that was the case, she was going to support her every step of the way. “I believe in you.” encouraged Aura as she smiled at Lilith. “We’re all proud of you Lilith, regardless if you’re the mayor or not. Besides, I anything you put your mind to, you’re capable of achieving.” 

“A break so I can regain my energy… That’s a sound plan.” Lilith got some jam to spread it across her toast.  People no longer looked at her with disdain for the dome event or other issues they had with her during her time as the mayor of Ceres, but she still felt like she needed to do what she could to make things better. “I have a lot to make up for, so I’ll need the fuel. I’ll be able to tackle those papers and then I’ll prep for the community event.” She leaned back against the headboard. “I’m glad you made the decision to go back to Altimira. The pre-school is a brilliant idea and you’re right. They do need some friends. Children usually like to follow after their peers.” She chuckled softly. “Our children will always be some sort of trouble, but they keep things lively and I appreciate them nonetheless.”

She looked over at Aurelia and scanned her face for any hints of what was to come. Was something wrong? Lilith gently caressed the back of Aurelia’s hand with her thumb, preemptively reassuring her if the topic ended up bad. “I love you, too. That’s why I fight so hard for us… I want to make it easier for you and our children. I can’t just enjoy waking up and breakfast with you for free.” She chuckled before tilting her head. She thought that they were already official. They called each other girlfriends and were raising two children together, so wasn’t that official enough. “I want to spend my life with you t-” The words got caught in her throat when she realized what Aurelia was asking. Tears welled up in her eyes and she slowly nodded. “Yes, yes, yes, I want to be your wife.”

“A good plan.” agreed Aurelia with a nod. Even when Lilith mentioned she had a lot to make up for, the Director would disagree, but at the same time she understood why she’d say such a thing. Her role as the previous mayor of Ceres still stuck with her till this day, despite the change in profession and overall development. “Take it easy for today Lil.” encouraged Aura. “I’m glad too...I missed it greatly and it didn’t feel right being away from it. At least the Board has been willing to take me back, but I’m not fully off the hook.” With the setbacks of her immortality, she still had her occasional blackouts, but they were being monitored and faculty were looking out for her ensuring that the students wouldn’t be harmed. “Mhm...Our children are everything to us. I’m just relieved that overall they’re turning out okay.” 

She remembered a time when children were out of the question for her. Her lifestyle back then was more like a sex driven bachlorette. As responsible as she was as the mayor, she handled her personal life like a seemingly endless party. She took another piece of toast and started to eat. She was lucky to have found Aurelia. The other woman broke that lifestyle and helped her become a better person. “The toast, perfect. I’m going to try the rest of these goodies.” Lilith nodded along as she talked about their children. “Oh, with Sawyer, and Dean, that’s good. And Jeremiah’s probably settling into his powers. I’m happy that they have them and they have more time to practice with them, but most mutants get their powers around teenage years, right?” Lilith straighted her back and nodded a little more. “Grace does have Genny and Miah’s a teenager…”

“About what…?” She lazily smiled and continued to munch on some toast. “Is everything alright?”

“Good, this meal is all for you. You deserve a break.” Lilith was constantly looking out for Aurelia and catering to her wants and needs, that it was time for Aura to return the favour. She’ll always be grateful that regardless of what she or they went through, they stuck it out in the end. After all, It’s been a whirlwind of events and emotions these past few years, but alas they found a sense of peace for the time being and it was worth basking in it. “Yes to all of that. It’s a good start to the process and I think I made the right choice opening up a daycare slash pre-school option at the Academy. They can observe and get used to what we consider the norm. They do get it around their teenage years, but both Miah and Grace are rare cases.” At the topic of their older children, Aurelia nodded once more as she squeezed Lilith’s hand. “Those two have each other as well, but they haven’t caused any trouble...yet.” Jeremiah and Grace were unpredictable at times, but these were their children and Aurelia was willing to drop everything for them to be okay. 

“Yes, everyday with you doing that sounds perfect.” She brought Aurelia’s hand to her lips to plant a kiss. Lilith squeezed her hand. “I’m glad that they’re sleeping so soundly… Two little ones is a lot, but they’re so cute.” She turned to look over at the tray of food. How romantic, she thought as her smile widened into a grin. Between the two of them, she thought that she would have beaten Aurelia to a gesture like this, but the immortal was full of surprises. “Thank you, and I am. I have term papers to grade, but that’s for later… Right now…” She took some toast and raised it to Aurelia. “We’re going to have breakfast and talk about life… So, how are you faring with the children?” 

Hearing Lilith’s affirmation caused Aurelia to smile as she watched her girlfriend display such affection. “Mhm, agreed. They are a handful, but they’re cute and so worth it.” Both Grace and Jeremiah changed their lives greatly, but for the better. It taught them a lot about themselves, but motherhood also proved that despite what had happened to them, they were capable of anything such as this. “Anytime. Ah, not bad.” She leaned in to take a bite of her toast before encouraging Lilith to eat. “Sure.” she grinned. Just the little things. “Younger Grace has been calmer than usual ever since I enrolled her into the Academy which is good. I think since it’s less chaotic and she’s with her friends, she can actually enjoy herself. The baby stopped disappearing on a frequent basis. Although, Jeremiah does have his days.” She paused and thought about her older children, “Their older selves have been quiet, but they do check in which is good. I don’t blame them, they’ve been keeping busy with their own development in this current timeline.” 

When she was home, she spent most of her time watching the children or sleeping. Being a law professor took more energy than she thought it would, but it was still better than being the mayor. Lilith rolled onto her side after feeling her girlfriend’s kiss. “I don’t mind waking up to that.” She smiled softly before stretching her arms up over her head and yawning. She wiped her face and sat up. “Grace isn’t in our bed and I don’t hear Jeremiah crying, so I’m guessing it’s just you and me this morning.” Lilith pushed herself to the edge of the bed and reached for Aurelia. “Good morning.”

Humming softly to herself, Aurelia finished preparing the rest of Lilith’s breakfast by hovering her hand over a vase filled with half grown lilies and using her abilities to have them fully grown. The younger versions of their children were fast asleep and so it was perfect timing for them to have some downtime to themselves. Picking up the tray, she quietly entered their room and placed her girlfriend’s breakfast onto the table next to her sleeping figure. Taking a seat by her bedside, Aurelia leaned in for a chaste kiss and murmured, “Good morning sleepyhead, breakfast is ready.” 

She could see that, despite her newfound immortality, the other woman still retained pieces of her old self. “That’s why she needs to to stop holding the world on her shoulders. She’s too soft for that responsibility. I can see that it’s tearing her apart.” The Leviathan didn’t have any children of her own, but she couldn’t understand how poorly her brother treated Lilith. Burning her with divine objects was one thing, but creating a personal hell for her was a bit much. 

“She’s trying to offer me a permanent vessel and she’s approached Avarice. It’s still funny. There are gods around us who are dancing on your graves, hopes and dreams.” Julienne rolled her eyes at Aurelia. “She can’t expect to be treated like a mortal, since she’s the exact opposite of one and she’s a child. An adult by your standards, but she wouldn’t be able to handle the scope of what people like me could tell her.” Lilith was a baby. “I’m in charge of punishing people with the Sin of Envy. How is that a bad thing? Well, I can see why some people would hate it, but I’m not completely ‘bad,’ whatever that means.” She threw up her hands. “Keep your kids away from Apollyon. If Ava moves like she does in business, she’ll attack your family from all sides and we should be mindful of their long term plans… I don’t know if Amara and I… I don’t like what she did to my human.”

“We both know she won’t give up.” Even though Lilith may not being showing signs for her love of Humanity, but she was going to do anything in her will to ensure no one undeserving of malice would face such demise. “Being soft isn’t a weakness.” stated Aurelia in a matter of fact tone. “It’s the irony of it, it’s what makes her humane. While it may have her flaws, it’s what fuel her to fight.” It was bold of Aurelia to defend the Antichrist in that sense, but she strongly felt that the Lilith she met more than a decade ago had parts of her that were still good.

It was the Immortal’s turn to roll her eyes, “I don’t believe in gods.” She’s an atheist and she stands by it. These beings were supernatural, simple as that. “Did you take her up on that offer?” Hearing the Leviathan’s opinion on Lilith caused Aura’s features to falter. A sudden wave of exhaustion hit her. This whole Immortal thing was not only dampening her mood, but sucking the life out of her that she recently gained back. “Maybe it’s how you deliver it.” countered Aura as she locked her gaze on Julienne. “And with the history you two have, what makes you think she’ll listen? I know what she is, but you need to realize your old school hell standards aren’t the best approach.” 

“Shes full of it.” Julienne replied. Satan’s child was powerful, more than sure knew, but the girl clearly didn’t know what to do with all of it or how to deal with that untapped greatness. “That was her mistake.” She wasn’t really upset by the fact it happened, but she was upset with the idea that Lilith thought she was working with her father. They were siblings but she didn’t go along with his idea of destroying the living realm in order to get to heaven. Between purgatory and this realm, she liked the life she created among the humans. 

“Well that’s the one who has been playing her like a fool, yes. It’s funny to me how Ava approached our dear Lilith while I was gone.” She scoffed. “This is why she’s an idiot. Lilith can’t tell the difference between an enemy and a friend…” Julienne remembered a time when she purposefully burned Lilith, but to be fair, the child was acting up. “I’m the Leviathan. In several different cultures, they used to write about how I would swallow the world, and I can, but I don’t. I like Earth and the people… the tastes. You can understand that this dimension can be enjoyed by multiple people.”

“All of you are full of it.” Aura stated in a matter of fact tone. She shuddered after remembering her time with Satan and he was too obnoxious to the point where she felt suffocated. The newly appointed Immortal chose to remain silent on the fact that Lilith caused Leviathan’s banishment. There were a lot of mistakes that Lilith did when she left the earth realm and she wasn’t going to ignore that. “She has a lot to learn.” Aurelia simply said and ended it at that. 

“A very little guy, right on.” Parker didn’t remember seeing a baby Miah the last time he visited Grace, but then again he was speeding along and usually trying to distract the eight year old. He tapped the area where his knee was supposed to be. One day, he hoped to unlock his powers and apply his super speed to his healing. He turned at the sound of his name and felt Aurelia’s hold on his hand. “Yes, of course. They’re my friends, too, and I don’t want anythign bad to happen for them…” His gaze softened into a worried look. “You and Ms. Young aren’t going to go anywhere, are you?” He nodded at her, promising to help out with the kids. “Grace and Miah aren’t so bad… They’re good people. It makes sense now why they’re so good…. They have you and Ms. Young.”

“…” He shifted in his seat. “I don’t know… I know she made it out of the mess… because she gave me stuff, but I haven’t been able to contact her. I’m worried that she might be hiding an injury again.” Parker wasn’t sure if there were other students as attentive as him, but some times he noticed a slight limp in her walk or the way she leaned to a side. He never asked her, but with her powers, he figured that she was a super hero in her own way. “I think I”m going to take this semester off from college… It’s easier to just do classes and stuff at Altimira and focus on the theories and stuff of powers. I don’t know… I just want to do stuff so I can help people again. I’d go find, Dr. Enderle in a heart beat.”

Aurelia’s heart warmed up after hearing such positive responses from Parker. She felt lucky to have all these people in her life that she could not only count on, but trust wholeheartedly. “They are truly blessed to have you in their lives, I’m telling you now Parker...You’re one of a kind. I wouldn’t be surprised if they called you Uncle Parker out of nowhere.” The concern that he had for both Lilith and her caused her to roll her lips repetitively as a nervous tick. She was carefully thinking about how to respond. “As of now no...We want to make things right.” It was a vague statement, but she couldn’t bring herself to full out lie to the young man. “Aww you’re so sweet, but we’re not your average family. We’re sourced from divinity and it’ll only get complicated from here. I just wanted to give you a heads up that’s all.” 

“Of course, it’s hectic. When things feel like they aren’t going according to plan, everything feels rough.” She reached over and pinched Aurelia’s cheek. The other woman was like an infant when it came to bullshit revivals and divine comedies. “You haven’t stopped giving a shit about those kids, have you? You still want them to fight their demons, right? If the answer is yes to both then you’re still an advocate for them.” She released her and gave her a small smile, unable to hide her amusement this time. “You’re not a disappointment. We all have to deal with shit. Going through the process doesn’t make you less of a person… Going through a similar process with another person makes things easier. That’s why we have AA meetings and rehab centers with group talks.” 

Her smile widened into a grin. “Quite frankly, you’ll never go through life without hurting someone or something. Having faith in the people around you, believing that they can bounce back and are tougher than they look helps out a lot. Nothings black or white.” She paused. “I was a cop before the dome fucked me up, but I also have books that were passed down through the generations of someone else’s lineage. Sometimes giving in isn’t the same as giving up, sometimes it’s Balance.”

She scoffed. “Bob probably had help from the woman who gave birth to the Antichrist, but ok…” She turned and rolled her eyes. “Well, depending on how we cook the egg, we can either separate your two selves or drop you into the spirit realm to confront her. The latter will hopefully end in a mutual agreement and unification of the two parts, or the bitchy you will take over.” Goldie spun around to face her once more and walked backwards. “If I make eggshell cookies and give them to Lilith, she can join you in the spirit realm to help.” She nodded excitedly, despite the fact that she was only telling a half truth. “And… you can place bets with the cyclops over there… Keep him busy for me while I go roast a magical turkey.”

Aurelia pouted as soon as Goldie reached over to pinch her cheek. “Heyyyy!” she whined while swatting away her hand. “Ugh, I’ll never understand how the fuck you can remain so...chill and composed despite what happened to you. Even if you are masking it, I did that for more than a decade and I think I’ve reached my breaking point...It fucking sucks that’s all.” However, the more Goldie spoke, the more Aurelia grew silent as she made sense of her words. It was all about perspective and understanding of her own battles. “I appreciate this Goldie.” A genuine smile finally broke out on Aurelia’s face. “I’m actually grateful to have met you right after I was revived. I was on the verge of giving up, but you definitely know the right things to say.” Her expression turned into a look of determination as she added, “I can do this...I’ve literally been through hell and back that I can easily live vicariously through it in a figurative sense .”

“I know...I should seriously be following through with my own advice.” Goldie’s words were similar to what she told Lilith. In fact these kinds of advice are were like the ones she told her students back in the Academy. Therefore, she understood them greatly. It was just the application of putting it through. “Right...balance.” She then smiled and explained how Bob was able to handle Lilith on the whole. “Yes, her mother. She was the foundation of it all.” 

“Wait, so there’s big Grace and little Grace… and there’s the Big, old Miah who is now Young Miah and you have a son? Is there a little Miah too?” His eyes were wide as his brain tried to process this new information. It explained a lot now about why Jeremiah had been so sad when Aurelia passed away. “Yeah! But if we call her that, she threatens to take away our extra credit points. Dr. Enderle told me that she thinks her real name is a little stuffy.” He explained. He placed a hand on his cast. “Mm… Right now, since the lab is gone and Dr. Enderle hasn’t contacted me, I don’t have work. I was going to go back to school, but it’s been hard to get around on my own, so I’ve been asking for rides from people in Altimira. People are really nice… It just sucks not being able to go places on my own.”

Aurelia chuckled nervously knowing it’s a lot to take in. “Yes, but little Miah is actually a baby.” A soft smile graced her lips as she thought of her children. However, her expression faltered into a serious one as a thought crossed her mind. “Parker.” Locking her gaze onto his, she reached out for his hand and gripped it tightly. “Promise me one thing. My children...No matter what happens to myself or Lilith. Can you please look out for them in any way you can?” There was a lot of people she could turn to, but Parker was a light in the dark for her children. His pure heart and good nature was what separated him from the rest. “There will be a time where you might want to give up on them, but I trust that you can pull through. It’s a lot...Death and Darkness on the whole? They’re a responsibility, but I know you can get through to them.”

It wasn’t a cigar, but at the moment it would do and the Leviathan didn’t feel like drawing too much attention to herself. After she took a seat next to Aurelia, who seemed to share the same mood, she took got ready to light the stick. Just before she did, however, the new immortal spoke up. Now it was Julienne’s turn to sigh in defeat. “I’m not stupid like your wife. My niece probably believed in that, but I don’t.” 

She took the cigarette from her lips and lowered it. “We have a lot to talk about. First things first, it isn’t your job to, but if you want~ Please knock some more sense into Lilith. She needs all of it back because now she’s gone and put herself on the radars of multiple gods.” She looked over at Aurelia. “You probably missed it, but it doesn’t help that your sister and her husband succeeded in killing that immortal demigod.”

“Lilith isn’t stupid. You all underestimate her.” deadpanned Aurelia. However, no sign of hostility was shown on her face as it was merely a fact. The Immortal was well aware of the the Deputy Director, along with the Leviathan that housed the vessel. “I see you’re back in the land of the living.” Lucifer made it known that his daughter had a role in banishing her back to hell. However, it was Grace that managed to get the archdaemon out. 

She ended up on the ground. Aurelia always knew how to throw a punch. “You offered me a position in the Vale syndicate.” She placed a hand on her cheek and spat out blood. “That’s fucked up and you know it. That was you.” Before Aurelia could get to her again, she started to send her energy out, causing it surround her like a bubble. She needed to defend herself. “I saw the darkness that came before everything. That’s what your son taps into and where Grace came from.” Her eyes were wide. “Your father held my head beneath the surface of that darkness and he’d pull me out just long enough so I wouldn’t drown.” She lowered her gaze. She couldn’t ignore all that they’ve worked through together, but she also couldn’t ignore the paranoia. When she looked through the darkness, she saw something living in it and moving, something terrifying. Annie was just a mutant, nothing like the immortals she stood next to. How could she be a part of that family? “You’re asking me to be here for you, but Aurelia, I’m terrified of you.”

“That wasn’t me! I wasn’t...” She was at a loss for words. Sure it came out of her mouth, but she didn’t mean it. Did she? Her Revenant self did what she wished it couldn’t do and that was hurt the ones she loves. She can’t afford to lose Annie too. “It’s not! I’m tainted with darkness due to my time with Hades and Lucifer, you have to believe me! Those will never be my true intentions!” Desperation never suited her when it came to Antoinette. Growing up, they were competitive and because Annie was older, Aura refrained from having to beg things from her. This time everything was different. She was different, just like she’d discussed with Lilith. “My children and I are better than that. We would never fully succumb to darkness and even if we had, we always come back. Look we’re working on it okay? God Annie, we’re not perfect!” However, after hearing how terrified her best friend, who was practically her family, state how terrified she is of her, Aurelia immediately shuts down. 

“Fine.” 

“No one’s the same after they lose the people they care about. Don’t be so surprised.” Annie extended her arms and let her power ripple through them. Her arms disintegrated and reconstructed themselves in alternating waves. “My mask is my mutation, Aurelia. It’s me. This is a part of who I am.” She said. Her voice still carried over even as her head seemed to explode and put itself back together. She made a movement to attack the rest of them, but Aurelia beat her to it. She sighed and then followed after her friend. “And I’m not asking you to. You’ve already done enough.” She missed Aurelia, but that darker part of her could become the next Xavier. “I just don’t want anyone in my head again.” Her expression darkened as flashbacks of those moments whilst under Xavier’s influence came back. “I love you, Aurie, and I’m glad you’re back. But your family fucked me up and I’m not so sure that you won’t either.” Right now, she didn’t really even want to deal with Aurelia’s kids either. She still hadn’t forgiven Jeremiah for what he did. “I might just have to fight you if it means ending all the Vale shitheads.”

The gods, their children, and their descendants had a habit that crossed over to many generations; they left the responsibilities of finishing their wars to the people after. Lilith struggled with the idea. “I’ve already started telling them that they could be anything they want to be. I’m giving them as many opportunities as I can.” With the amount of push back she was getting, she no longer had any doubts about the woman sitting next to her. This was the woman who she had lost and missed. “It sounds almost romantic, but I wasn’t the one who brought you back… How are you back, by the way?” She hoped that the children weren’t responsible for this. She was worried about both sets. 

Lilith squeezed Aurelia’s hands back. “Ok. What are we going to do about you? I can feel that you’re not human anymore.” She gave immortality away sometimes and some of her closest friends had immortal energies to them, but she never thought that Aurelia would come to have it because of her brush with death. “I’m not angry with you. All of it just feels like its a part of a divine plan.” She sighed. Aurelia’s life force was comforting and warm. Lilith felt at ease. 

“There can only be one Famine. Ava’s relationship with the entity is as close as Grace is with Death.Things will get worse. For your sister, for everyone.” She stared right back at Aurelia. Her eyes couldn’t wander away anymore. “I don’t know what I’m doing anymore, Aurelia. I don’t know where she went.” Lilith shut her eyes. Her way of coping with loss was disastrous. What she was doing now was no different from what she did after her mother passed away. Slipping into her vices was just so simple.

“I’m sorry, Aura.”  She reached up and held her hand. Slowly, she brought the back of Aurelia’s hand to her lips and planted a kiss. “I didn’t mean to become this…” She chuckled even as tears moved down her cheeks. “Aura, we’re both different now.” The damage had already been done, but all Lilith wanted to do was to move forward. “When can we go see our children? How long will it take for us to get better?”

A grimace was shown on Aurelia’s face, “Good. I’m glad they have that...” Maybe she overlooked the whole thing, but there were some parts of Lilith that was still there. It was just the way things were done to her children got lost along the way.
