It’s probably just me, but I’ve always wondered why Lucy choose her right hand for the location of her guild mark. Across various cultures the right hand or the use of it symbolizes positives attributes such as power, authority, honor, favor, ect. ect. This could be tied into Lucy’s background: coming from a extremely wealthy family that had power and prestige (though she didn’t see her early life as such). It could also be connected to her ancestry as well: Lucy comes from a long line of powerful celestial mages and is a powerhouse in her own right. It should also be mention that she has the respect of the Celestial King, the spirits she is contracted with and her friends. The right hand holds so much symbolism for Lucy and I do think her reasons for having her guild mark on it is really important.
I see it as an important step in Lucy changing her life: she made the decision to leave her Father, become a celestial mage and set her sights on joining the guild she admire the most. Her guild mark is more than just a symbol of being in Fairy Tail: it’s a physical representation of dreams and aspirations she set for herself. Being able to accomplish all of these goals (Despite the set backs she experience and the lost of confidence she has in her own abilities at times), is so important to her. Being able to come as far as Lucy has and still being able to move forward is a continual lesson she has learn in her life. There is a reason that even after the guild broke up, Lucy didn’t join another guild or get rid of her guild mark after Fairy Tail was disbanded.
