Fault Lines | Calvin & Audrin
As if it were a victory sip, Calvin polished off the last of the wine. He then traded his glass for their cups of rum and ice cream. As he handed Audrin hers, he confirmed that “Saturday is more than fine."
Jokingly, he loosened his tie as he slouched back into his couch, as if coming home from a long day of work. It was a rewarding day, however. At least, the last ten minutes had been. He’d successfully confirmed a day of intimacy with a girl he had become sure wouldn’t reward him the time of day anytime soon.
Call him a bastard, but the thought alone was enough to spur a smug smirk. “Other than the obvious fact that you want me and like class, what else do you want? What else do you like?"
He didn’t mean it exclusively for their date, of course. He was legitimately curious. As he’d realized earlier, there weren’t many specifics about her that he had to go off of. But if Calvin were truly planning on investing time into something that was inevitably fleeting, he had to at least insure that her departure wouldn’t be his fault. He had to cover all his bases, really do this right.Â
And hopefully she would do the same.
Though he was still trying to play it cool, Calvin watched her from his peripheral vision. The ice cream he’d suddenly found more appetizing was a good distraction as he awaited her answer. Maybe it was too vague of a question? Maybe she was too guarded a person? Maybe she didn’t care of he knew her and was just using the date as an opportunity to take advantage of his generosity …
Or maybe he’d have to shut up his thoughts. Maybe deep down he was still an idealist, hoping this would work better than he even imagined it could.
Audrin nodded, smiling to herself still as she took her ice cream back. She gave it a small swirl in her hand, as if it were the wine she'd just had, before helping herself to it again. This time, the sweetness of the ice cream prevailed, complimenting her mood and situation quite well. Well enough that she, as her host did, slouched back into the couch.
She looked up at him, almost surprised but even more flattered to see the smirk he wore. It was a victory in itself knowing she gave it reason to be there.
On her lips, a similar smirk began reflecting itself only to be quickly covered by the cup to her lips once again as her brows furrowed in thought. Were these questions' relevance limited to their date? Or were they out of personal curiosity? Why was it so strange to her that a guy who made plans to go on a date with her would ask these things?
As she lowered her glass, Audrin scrunched her face, mentally slapping herself for forgetting how to date, let alone get to know a person on a more amicable level. She shifted in her seat, angling herself to face Calvin as she leaned into the couch still.
"I like a lot of things...?" She said, feeling her own hesitance strange. Pursing her lips in thought, she blinked and took a moment before continuing. "Food, family, and... success might be my top three. Of things I like and things I want, I suppose those three fit both categories."
"I definitely liked what we did last time," she admitted a small laugh and shrug, unsure of what else to say. Of all the skills she possessed, Audrin began to think selling herself as a person to date at this casual and still somewhat intimate level wasn't one of them.Â
"And... I'd like it if you picked me up next Saturday, 7PM sharp." She added that, a bit hastily, realizing they hadn't touched that part of their plans, despite its importance. "I'm down in 7A."
