Had this Land Cruiser 79 series in for a set of mud terrain tyres recently. Wanted to share a few notes for anyone in Auckland considering the switch from all-terrain to mud terrain, since it's a common question we get.
A few things worth knowing before you make the switch:
Mud terrain tyres give noticeably better grip in mud, loose gravel, and rough tracks, but they do come with a trade-off in road noise and slightly reduced fuel efficiency compared to all terrains. If most of your driving is still on sealed roads with occasional off-road trips, it's worth weighing that up first.
Wheel alignment matters more with mud terrains since the tread pattern is more aggressive, and uneven wear shows up faster if the alignment isn't spot on. We always recommend an alignment check when fitting a new set, especially on a heavier vehicle like a Land Cruiser.
Tyre pressure adjustments for off-road driving also make a bigger difference with mud terrains. Dropping pressure slightly for off-road sections helps the tread do its job properly.
