Does anyone know how to learn bass guitar and/or the drums at home without purchasing a bass or drum kit?
Not possible? Surely you jest!
But seriously, is there a way to?
As a self taught guitarist, I think the best thing to do for bass would be to watch tutorial videos. You could even start learning the frets on a bass and some basic music theory, but it's true that that's not the same as playing an actual bass. The thing to get used to the most, in my experience, is your fingers hurting before calluses form, which you can't do without a bass. However, if you have an acoustic guitar or a violin or access to some other stringed instrument you can do that. Also, the first four strings on guitar are the same as the strings on bass, but an octave up, so if you don't have a bass you could always transpose the riffs you learn to guitar.
Drums I'm not sure about, but other than the foot-operated parts it's gotta be pretty easy to make some down-scaled makeshift kit at home, no? I mean it wouldn't be the real thing, but it could help with coordination and knowing where to hit for what effect if you build the kit with a little accuracy. This is also stupid, but I did find a five-dollar mini drum set at five below once so maybe if you got one of those???? lmao let me know if any of this is coherent at all.
