Tips that actually can save your fucking life
Based on my experience + really poor medical knowledge (2nd year med student here, I know how stupid it is but hey, EDs don’t discriminate)
1. Water and electrolites
I don’t think I need to write this, but W A T E R !!!!! Ok, so if you want to do one of this “dry fasts” do not do not do not do not! You may know that fasts are dangerous themselves when done without medical supervision. But water fasts are super dangerous ones. Not only lost of water, but also you lose electrolites, that are super super important for keeping the cell membrances in optimal state of being able to react to stimulus. If not, your heart might just stop working. Do you know what happens when you get too much potassium in your body (fe. If you get an injection of too much potassium? (google it yourself)) You actually die in a flash. Same if you have too low levels of some electrolites.
2. Lax
I know. I used to do it (shame on me). And I overdid them twice. And twice I fainted in a public place. Twice ambulance had to come to me. And if you think fainting and ambulance are your goal, and they are evidences of how dainty and elegant you are, just try to imagine explaining to paramedics that you lost conscious because you were shitting your pants for a couple of hours. Not fun, right? The reason is the same as before, you lose WATER AND ELECTROLITES, and not in normal renal way, but completely uncontrolled, intestinal way, so the loss is rapid and really dangerous.
3. Diet types
Eat your noodles kids.
Jk, i know you are probably eating only these awful shirataki noodles that taste like paper. Don’t you miss normal noodles a little? When I first tried shirataki I actually thought I was gonna cry, they were that awful.
So at first I want to write this: if you can PLEASE consult a specialist, dietitian. If you are overweight and want to lose weight in a healthy way there are many people who are willing to help you lose weight fast and healthy, without binging and all this anorexic bullshit. At least consider it.
Okey you probably are confused. Vegan? Paleo? Keto? High carb? High protein? So here is my answer.
For people without any dietary medical conditions, balanced diet is the best diet. You need fats, because without them your A D E K vitamins you take every morning are not gonna be absorbed, so yeah, you are wasting your money. You need your carbs, because your brain have no idea how to use fats. Like literally, it doesn’t have an enzyme for it. It eventually have some kind of defence mechanism, but it works soooo poor. (Read about ketone bodies if you’re interested. The minus is that your breath will smell like you just drunk a bottle of nail polish remover… your choice anyway.) You need protein because you damage your muscles all the time, and if you want to stand, dance, walk you need your muscles.
4. Vitamins
What if I won’t take my vitamins?
If you have normal, balanced diet - nothing. But if you are fucked up anorexic like me… Well google it. Pelagra. Beri-beri. Rickets. B12 polyneuropathy. Not cool. Deadly. Sometimes reversable, sometimes not. Imagine that you need to stick some photos to the wall. Would you like some tape? Well I guess, you can’t stick it without tape. Now imagine that sticking picture to the wall is a critical reaction in your body. Vitamins are the tape. Our body cannot produce them, you need to take them. So yeah. Pretty important.
5. Recovery
I know most of you think that this is too soon for recovery. Okey. I don’t agree, but ok. But also most of you consider recovery in the future. So just hear me out.
Recovery is difficult. Deciding to give it a chance is especially difficult. I know that you probably don’t consider it now, but give your brain an idea, so it would be easier in the future. Follow recovery blogs. Try watching some youtube “what I eat in a day in anorexia recovery”. I would recommend Rebecca Leung, but there are do many of them. Even if you don’t want to go to the recovery just watch it. Without deciding. Without any consequences. Your brain will accept recovery in the future much easier.

I can’t stress enough the importance of this.
Okey, so let’s talk a little bit about “omg I gained 3 pounds overnight what the hell, I’m so fat”
So i can’t really understand this logic, maybe because I learn about human body in my uni like all the time, but I just wanted to say:
General overview is this: You are literally a hole. It starts with your mouth, it ends with your anus. Your other organs and body fat are surrounding this hole. When the food moves through this “pipe” your body is absorbing nutriens, kcal and water. What it can’t absorb - mostly fiber - stays in the pipe and turns into poop. This is why they say fiber is good for you, it’s kind of uncloging your digestive system.
So imagine two scenarios. First: you ate one piece of cake which was like 500 kcal and had almost no fiber. Then you didn’t poop. The next morning your weight stays the same/ lower - you stayed under the caloric limit, and almost no fiber stayed in your digestive track. Ok, now let’s imagine you eat, let’s say, 500 kcal worth od apples (it’s probably like 6-8 apples, depemding on a size). You also ate 500 kcal, but your fiber intake is much higher. Then you didn’t poop. Next morning… You gained! But it’s not fat. And you ask yourself what the hell, I only ate 500 kcal, and just apples, that are suppose to be healthy! Well - now you know - it’s fiber, staying in your system.
And now I want to talk about getting enough fiber in your diet.
Especially if you are low-restricting, please take caution and add fiber to your diet. I promise you, you won’t gain fat because of this and it can literally save you from many diseases even like colorectal cancer. If you experience not being able to poop for a couple or days, or even a week, it probably means you really should get your fiber. All the “poop” is still in your guts, and it also makes your weight - much higher and you - bloated. Defecation is really important, so please don’t underestimate it.
If you eat mostly whole, plant-based foods you should be ok, but here is a list od high fiber foods:
So here are foods with high fiber:
- Split peas 16g/cup
- Lentils 15.5g/cup
- Black beans 15g/cup
- Baked beans 10g/cup
- Chia seeds 10g/ounce
- Green peas 9g/cup
- Raspberries 8g/cup
…and many many more.
Disclaimer: I would love to see you all recover. To be able to eat with your friends. But i know some of you won’t do this, so at least please, please, if you can do anything to do this more safely - do this.
