La Calvera Catrina, or The Elegant Skull, was a zinc etching created in 1910 by artist José Guadalupe Posada. It was popularized in 1947 when artist Diego Rivera (husband of artist Frida Kahlo) made the Calvera Catrina the centerpiece of his painting Sueño de una Tarde Dominical en la Alameda Central, or Dream of a Sunday Afternoon along Central Alameda. Since then it has become an iconic image for Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico. Not only can Josh tell a fantastic story with a picture, he does a fine job with words as well: "I'm convinced that once midnight had come and the cloud had descended upon the roof of the palace, Minamoto no Yorimasa heard an awful screech and loosed far more than one arrow into the darkness. He loosed 23 arrows exactly per my calculations. Also, it wasn’t just a cloud but a cloud in skeletal form that almost seemed to cradle the beast as it was struck and began to fall to the ground..." . .
