my friend made a new instagram post - where she was in abroad with her significant other. i thought wow, cute, and went to scroll her other posts (as you do).

within two minutes i was thinking "wow, she's been to germany and hungary, has a girlfriend and a cat...." and felt jealous.

then i thought about it for a while and realised that i've also been to both of those places and have a dog. the only thing i lack and should have be as "succesful" in life (sarcams) as her is a significant other.

i also happen to know her life is not only cute pets, happy relationships and aesthetic travel places. just like no one else's is.

so i guess i just understood how blinded you can get by social media and how quick you can start focusing on the things that you're not experiencing or you don't have, on the negatives.

the worst thing is, we all know this already. everyone knows you only post the highlights on social media, because we ourselves do that. but when only the good parts of someone else's life are on display, it's easy to focus on them and falsely thing all the downsides don't exist, especially because they might be apparent in your own current life.

me: *stops communicating any of my emotions to them* *won't ever tell them what's wrong* *hides from them when feeling bad, feels worse as a result, rinse and repeat*

Fandom

It’s just so fucking picturesque. Crispy air, spiked apple cider, colourful trees. His best friends preparing a stew together in the kitchen because they’re together again, something Isak almost ruined last time he was here. Even sitting under one of those trees that’s almost as colourful as he is, sketching with his legs propped on Isak’s lap. 

“Baby, what are you drawing?” Isak asks, tilting his head to sneak a peek. Even blocks his sketchbook with a hand and a grin. 

“Don’t be so impatient.”

“Is it me with a pumpkin head again?”

“…Absolutely not.”

The cabin door opens and Jonas comes outside, guitar on his shoulder. Eva follows behind him, rolling his eyes. “I keep telling him don’t be that guy,” she says. “But he keeps being that guy.”

“You’re not mad that I’m that guy,” Jonas says, circling his arms around her waist and kissing her cheek. “You’re mad that you like me because of it.”

“In spite of it.” Eva laughs as Jonas swings her around in his arms so she’s facing him, then kisses her for real. Eva told Isak she found herself before she found her way back to Jonas again. Jonas said something about how he wanted to be a better person for his friends, but she inspired him to the best person. Gushy, romantic bullshit, but Isak knew he was in no position to call them on it. That was the language he spoke in now.

“Do you take requests?” Even asks Jonas. “Know any Gabrielle? 

“I’ll learn it for your wedding,” Jonas says.

“If you’re planning to bring that to our wedding, you’re not invited,” Isak says. 

Eva glances over Even’s shoulder at his drawing. “Oh, nice,” she says. “You’ve really captured Isak’s inner-glow.”

Isak pushes Even’s legs off his lap and moves behind him, resting his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder. “You drew me as a pumpkin carving?”

“How dare you suggest this is anything but my best work?” Even says, tilting his own head to kiss Isak’s cheek. 

“I don’t think you got my eyes right. They’re less…square than that.”

“Hm, really?” Even reaches behind him to grab Isak’s hand, tugging him forward. “Can you come around so I can take a closer look?”

Isak moves in front of Even and sits on his lap, straddling his waist. He catches Eva and Jonas eyeing each other before making an excuse to check on the food and heading back inside.

“Hey.”

“Hey.”

Even brushes his nose against Isak’s. “What are you doing?”

“Sitting on my boyfriend’s lap. What are you doing?”

“Trying not to get a boner.”

“Jesus Christ, Even.”

Even smiles and brushes his thumb against Isak’s cheek. “Can I tell you something?”

“Mhm.”

“I’m really happy, Isak. So fucking happy.”

And that is really all it takes for Isak to feel the same way. He has a biology exam on Wednesday, he’s overdue for a visit with his parents, he got stuck in a hateful internet comments rabbit-hole this morning, but right now, he is at a cabin with his best friends and very happy boyfriend.
